No desire to keep playing this game (basically rage quit). Here's why...
Whelp, 87 hours played, I guess I got my money's worth. But I spent a good deal of the time cursing at my screen. The reason being combat, the thing we play shooters for; is all sorts of effed up. PvE combat that is. Long rant.
The main reason is movement. This is dawn of the gaming era low rent. I think Half life 1 did it better. Stuck on a foot high object and running in place, the kind of stuff I last saw in a $5 indie game 15 years ago.
The cover system is so clunky and slow, Poorly conceived and even worsly implemented. Movement is slow as hell. Double tap to roll does either nothing, sticks you to the nearest object, or rolls you in the wrong direction.
Your an elite special ops soldier, taking grenade fire from some guy who can't see you, whom you've never seen, who can miraculously drop a shell in your back pocket from anywhere on the map, no matter how good your cover is. Oh, and this dude probably spawned behind you (monsters closets, really? That is sooooo Doom from 1995) and because you fired one shot, every npc within miles now knows exactly where you are. Time to break cover or die. So what do you do? You stand up for a stretch, all that crouching can make you stiff in the joints, only to get lit up by every npc in Washington. If your still alive the obvious thing to do is take a few lazy steps before you break into a slow trot, we aint gonna sprint out of the blocks here, this is not a race people! Even though your life is on the line, you are a cool customer, a dead cool customer. The only thing done with any sort of haste in this game is cover to cover movement. But that only works for forward movement. Try to retreat and you are a dead man walking, literally walking.
Every time I've died in this game it's been to cheap *** tactics like I described above. Toon never seems to go where I want it to when under fire and enemies are so cheap in their tactics. Finishing a fight it feels like you got lucky, not skill, luck.
So much polish everywhere else in this game, why did they miss the boat on the most important part? Massive should have borrowed a few people from Ubi's AC franchise to sort out basic movement.
I just spent 3 hours trying to clear Black Tusk, Roosevelt Island, swearing and then laughing at the stupidity of the whole thing. Got 2 chests cleared, was looking good for the final one and for no reason got insta ported out to the start of the whole mission, wtf? Kapoof. All that work, gone. That was the final straw.
This game had so much going for it. Too bad combat is a frustrating joke.
Game crashes on me all the time too. Lost a bunch of progress to that. Tried every fix on the internet, nothing helped.
Anyhoo, peace out. I'm done.
