I'm playing my 3rd, and probably final play through using no companions on Hard-A$$, with no HUD, save for GPS because waypoint routes won't show even on the map unless you enable the damn thing, minimal low tier weapons, and so far only grapple, torch, and wingsuit for perks. [edit] Added Ammo Indicator to HUD due to otherwise not knowing what throwable is equipped.Originally Posted by BridgeToClarity Go to original post
It's like a whole new game. The only frustrating thing is it's hard to know what you'll have to use and upgrade, because a lot of it is either necessary to proceed, or limits how much of the game you can play. Plus the end battle with the twins could be quite tough without some decent weapons, health upgrades, etc.
Opinions are widespread on GRW, but few claim the graphics are bad. Certainly looks good if your hardware can play it on max settings. You don't say what you mean by bad gameplay, but you can't really judge it without skills maxed if you're used to more arcade type games like Far Cry. A lot of little things you take for granted in the way of shooting efficiency and other things become smoother. Once I got a feel for it and became very familiar with it though, I was able to beat it on Extreme with no HUD or Upgrades averaging less than 10 min a mission, and that's starting and ending at a safehouse.Originally Posted by crunc01 Go to original post
That was after first thinking I might not be able to even beat the game on Extreme when I first felt how it played with no skills upgraded. Why, because I'd been playing arcade games a lot and it had been a LONG time since I played a tactical shooter. That said, there are times GRW feels very arcade, like chasing convoys on Tier One mode. Once you learn how to tag convoys with stealth though, it becomes much more tactical. This is why you see so many opinions on GRW, because they allow you to pretty much play it any way you want, and that results in very different scenarios and styles of gameplay.
I HATE it! I got it cheap. Once you play one area, you've pretty much played the entire map! I've never played such a repetitive, boring shooter as GRW. There are 5 things you just keep repeating. It's terrible.Originally Posted by crunc01 Go to original post
Still don't get the FC looks better than GRW claim. You guys must have missed the myriad of players complaining about the LOD of objects pixelating, then finally visibly drawing into detail as you approach them in FC4. That doesn't happen in GRW, despite having a MUCH larger world and farther draw distance.
ALL games have repetitive elements, FC is certainly no exception there. It's still using outposts, over the top arcade skills, pirate type villains, predators constantly chasing you. Not much has changed with Far Cry, whereas GR is now open world allowing you to tackle any mission in any order any way you want. It's hardly as repetitious as FC is. You can pretty much always predict a fantastical, drug induced boss battle in Far Cry anymore, and know when it's coming. They even used the exact same layout in FC3, 4, and Primal proven by overlays of the river systems. All they did was contour ground elevations and reskin. It's been the same type base gameplay in the last 4 installments too.
For a claimed boring game, GRW has had a lot more player activity for a lot longer time than any FC game has ever had.
Okay, I was really disappointed that I can't play with two GFH like in Far Cry 5. I hope that developers return 2 or even 3 AI companions for a player. And those who say that this makes game too easy or annoying - just don't use them, they are completely optional! So you can play solo or with one GFH and those who like can play with 2 or maybe even 3 teammates. And I hope developers won't listen to people who say "hey, remove that feature because we think it makes game too easy, but we still can't refuse to use it so we want it removal to be forced upon everyone!"
