My personal experience as a solo player.

By visiting the forum i have noticed that there are few threads complaining about the difficulty of the game, because they die to NPC´s. First let me say personally i had a different experience where playing solo was easier than playing with team. Of course that has to do with the scaling of the NPC´s if you play as a team. Nevertheless i have recorded two videos where i am playing two missions solo one in hard and the other in challenging difficulty.

The First mission is the CDC-Headquarters solo on Hard. By playing this mission i prioritize targets and was able to complete it without dying. The second mission which i played is the Jefferson Plaza solo in Challenge Difficulty. At the second mission i died two times and the end because of mistakes that i made.

The first mistake was that i stayed in the same cover for long time and got flanked by two MG´s. The second mistake was that i didn´t prioritized targets and died by the boss who pinned me with the foam and got killed. Finally i complete it on the third try. With these two videos, i am simply showing that the game difficulty is fine as a solo player as long you:
    1. Using Cover but do not stay for a long time in it.
    2. Not Rush
    3. Prioritize Targets
    4. Change tactics if you die often.
    5. Check your gear and if necessary modify it.

As a not so good player myself, i hope those few tips can help you a bit as they helped me through out the leveling. What i do not want to see however is the nerf of NPC´s which will make the missions simply face-rolling. As i said earlier the difficulty is ok for a solo player. Maybe a bit tweaking on the scaling when playing as group, but other than that the difficulty is fine.

    Regards

Here are the two videos for those who want to see. Both are unedited with raw game play.

PS: If anyone has few more tips for solo playing, please do share. I think it will help the new people and those who struggling as solo.

I also think solo play is just fine.

I am brand new to this genre and the Division franchise and really love it for how you have to think your way through each scenario.

Two big pluses in the game for me are the fire turret and chem launcher to heal. I use those A LOT, but strategically as well.

The other thing I do a lot of is manually reload. Every time I duck behind cover, I reload. Even if I've only used a few shells or cartridges. Reload when under cover prevents you from potentially reloading at a very inopportune time.

Two things that suck. Rushing NPCs that are bullet sponges and kill him with two hits of their baton. When I see one coming, equip shotgun and blast them when they are close. The other thing is random spawns behind you in the middle of a firefight. I just die. LOL.

Yeah. I hate those too. Another tip is when you see them rushing to you, just shoot the pouch on their side. It will causes them to get disoriented and you can kill them easily. Do not aim for headshot if you play hard difficulty and above as they wear helmet and it can withstand some force. Just aim at the pouch on their side.

Experience from a Division 1 player

Let me add the perspective of a long time Division 1 player (1000+ hours). The issue isn't the difficulty, it is the very high B.S. factor in the solo mode. In Division 1, we had what my friends and I called the anti-BS box a.k.a.the support station. Between this and the flame turret, most situations were manageable. This made up for a lot of problems with the game. Being shot through cover when you turn your back, elite enemies running from grenades that you've targeted but haven't thrown yet, enemy snipers that are 100% accurate as you empty a magazine into their face, enemy shotguns that deal massive damage from long range, just to name a few really bad ones.

Now, with the "improved" A.I., the enemy doesn't care about things like begin set on fire, being shot in the face, rushing a person with a fully automatic weapon, etc. The new A.I. design is based around the idea that "I am a bullet sponge, therefore I will ....." fill in the blank. For example, I am a bullet sponge so I will run at top speed in full gear across 100 yards of open terrain to get to a flanking position. The AI knows that you can't kill them fast enough so the algorithms are built around that idea. And anyone who says D2 enemies are "less spongy" than D1 enemies needs to go back and play D1 for a while.

The hyper-aggressive AI makes playing the game a little boring. With the Division 2, the only way not to get consistently killed is to engage the enemy from long range and fall back. Even a red enemy will shred your armor if they catch you in the open. On missions, the level design creates natural choke points to funnel the enemy through which the designers try to take away by locking doors behind you or making you drop down into the area (more Division BS). So the levels become mechanical grind fests. There are no tactics involved. No fun of moving and fighting, only hunker down in one small area and blast away in the right order or you'll get overrun. The days of advancing into enemy space with the Striker gear set and a good assault rifle are long gone. Pick up a high level bounty in "the Pit" and you'll see the worst that the Division 2 has to offer.

In my opinion, from the guns to the user interface to the AI to the mission design, The Division 2 feels like a clunky, half-finished, version of The Division 1.

Look up some solo build vids. You can just shred these fools.

In higher difficulty missions (especially Heroic), it's all about being aware of your surroundings and a good chunk of terrain control. You also have to watch out for Medics who will prolonge the fight as well. I was able to solo a Heroic Bounty/HVT from DC's PTN yesterday night despite having to put up a couple of nasties from the True Sons (Believe me those drudges aren't no pushover in Heroic). You just need to take your time and don't worry about rushing because rushing is a BIG SIN in Tom Clancy's The Division 2.
