I have a GeForce 1080Ti, Far Cry 4 worked fine last time I played it on this machine a few weeks ago and now doesn't. FC5 and New Dawn work fine. The Update screen displays, then the black FARCRY4 window and then it just dies. Absolutely no changes to this PC other than the GeForce Driver Version 430.86 update currently on it.

    The windows error log says:

Oh, I also have another identical PC and no joy there either - exact same behavior - but it does run fine on my old Laptop with a GTX670MX. I've uninstalled the Uplay Launcher, rebooted and reinstalled on both PC - no change.

Deleting the Far Cry 4 System Registry entree following the directions found here fixed it for me

    Original discussion: https://steamcommunity.com/app/29811...0856106568287/

    Steps:
Back up your savaegames in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames
Uninstall Far Cry 4 and UPlay
Open regedit and find the Far Cry 4 registry folder -
    Location HKEY-USERS/S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxx.../Software/ubisoft/Far Cry 4
    and delete it
    Reboot
Reinstall Uplay using the most up-to-date installer from https://uplay.ubisoft.com and reinstall FC4
    Reboot
    Start up FC4

Please Sir do so .. this has been happening to many Steam users since the end of March when Ubi released a patch on Steam .. i think some one goofed on .. as that same day a patch for Far Cry New Dawn was released ..my far cry 4 game was not affected here .. but many other far cry 4 users reported a problem, where they report they MUST edit the reg files to fix ..

possibly a bad patch file got on some servers ?

i have that Steam fix bookmarked.... i may add it to the troubleshooting tips section i got pinned to the top of the forums over on steam ..tho i have had reports that some users can fix it by removing Uplay (delete all the left over folders ) ..and rebooting ..then reinstalling Uplay ..but alas it not been a fix for all users

Fix for me was simpler than most answers

Hard to believe this is still an issue in 2019.. 12 years after it was first reported.

Deleting the Far Cry 4 System Registry fixed it for me

    Steps:
    Uninstall UPlay
Open regedit and find the Far Cry 4 registry folder -
    Location HKEY-USERS/S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxx.../Software/ubisoft/Far Cry 4
    and delete it
    Reboot
Reinstall Uplay using the most up-to-date installer from https://uplay.ubisoft.com and reinstall FC4
    Start up FC4
