Exactly. I think it would be neat to change Shinobi's weapons from dual wielding to two-handed. A kusarigama is held two-handed originally. A sickle in one hand and some sort of ball with a chain in the other hand. This character could've been so much more interesting.
When I first came back to FH shortly after Cent and Shino were released I was excited for how a Kusarigama-based char would work (even from an animations perspective). Was really disappointed when I found out Shino was just Japanese Kratos... I mean look at games like Nioh and Ninja Gaiden where the Kusarigama is amazing to watch in motion.
If Ubisoft was gonna re-work Shino from the ground-up, outside of gameplay mechanics giving him the sickle and chain would be up there... plus more customization since atm he has literally the same customization options just one for his left and one for his right.
On gameplay re-works, I've already touched on that earlier in the thread and in my own suggestion thread but on the point of giving Shino back the Kusarigama this could be really interesting in the way it may affect his kit:
- The historical use of the "ball and chain" part of the Kusarigama was to bludgeon opponents and break joints or to catch their weapons - reflect this aspect as a parry follow-up heavy attack. It doesn't need to blind or do anything more, it can just be a slow, unblockable bash after a parry that forces the opponent to dodge it, then shino can dash back in to start offense
- Per above, shino's deflect animation can now make a bit more sense than a "fantastical" shadow dash (which is basically a cutscene and I love the anim) however his deflect can now no longer be an auto-attack and allows you to choose between a GB (weapon catch) or a single bleed attack light
- His ranged stance (if people are not amenable to my idea of removing it as a 'stance' and only making it a follow-up attack) can now be alot more telegraphed and have a unique animation - ranged heavy is the ball and chain, the ranged GB is the sickle with its own unique indicator/animation with more start-up(clearly going from swinging one, easily-swingable end of the weapon to using the more unwieldy part would take more time from a realism point of view)
- Executions would largely have to be re-worked however you can keep a few in-tact. I'd go so far as to say some of the newer ones, like Inazuma Dash, could be kept but just making them "one-handed".
Evidently though, as interesting an idea as it is this is like asking the devs for your cake and having it too - I'm less concerned with making shinobi more visually appealing than I am fixing the various glaring issues in his gameplay.
