Game crashes to windowed black screen FIX!

    Hi All,

I've noticed several times now that when starting up the game it crashes to a windowed black screen and hearing only audio sequences.
Turns out that I've running the MSI Afterburner app in the background which is causing this.
By simply closing the Afterburner app or any other monitoring app (from the system tray) before running the game the game will start up properly.
An alternate way is if you wan't to make use of the Afterburner app or any overlay app, turn off the overlay function in the Uplay app.
My thoughts are that Uplay might not support third-party overlay functions in case Uplay's own overlay function is activated.
In the past I've noticed that when the Uplay overlay is active while a third party overlay also is active, a game does not have to crash per se but one of the overlay function might not work properly.
In case of The Division 2, overlays will conflict and the game crashes to a black windowed screen.
May be a possible bug within the game or just something to be fixed by UPlay app dev.

Hope this helps when experiencing this behavior.

    Any Overlay

    Hello.
I read your post and wondered why my game crashed. Apparently discord overlay causes the same issue, so I assume it would be any type of overlay that makes the game crash.
Thanks for the help, it is appreciated!

    Thanks for sharing R3neG4de.67!

Please note we often ask players to disable overlay programs like MSI Afterburner, Fraps or Discord as it may cause software conflicts with Ubisoft titles. We are glad you were able to find a solution for your issue!

    Good to hear!

    Hi,

Thanks for replying and confirming that this is a common behavior.
Good to hear it's not a game bug but more of an overlay software conflict.

In some rare cases it will just work fine along side but most of the time the UPlay overlay function does not work properly.
However, this is the first time that I've experienced a game crash while having UPlay and an overlay software running in the background.
The solution for me is just simply closing the other overlay program (MSI Afterburner) and make use of the UPlay ingame overlay.

Glad I could help by sharing my experience with this.
