Does anyone else miss the good old times with Far cry, or is it just me? To be more specific i am talking about Far cry 1, 2 and 3 (and a little bit 4).
These 3 games were nothing like each other, they all had new features, new engines, new mechanics, different kind of story (great stories actually), different kind of DLCs, surprising side stories and easter eggs (at least Far Cry 3) and so on... these games.. so unique.
Then very surprisingly, you, Ubisoft, realease a "Far Cry 4", after 2 years since Far Cry 3's release, that was rather odd, seeming that between Far Cry 1 and 2, there was 4 year, and Far cry 2 and 3, 4 years...
Those 4 years obviously meant that you had alot of time to develop a fantastic game. While Far Cry 4 wasn't a bad game, it was definitly not as unique, actually it was mostly like playing Far Cry 3 again IMO. I think we all know why...
My point is, look at this:
From 4 years of development time, to 2 years of development time, to 1 year of development time now... and i believe that many people playing or having played Far Cry, like me, is not anymore exicted for new releases of this series, the games have become alike to each other and boring, it has actually reached a point where major flaws and bugs have not been fixed before release (specifically talking about Far Cry 5).
Ubisoft, where has the passion for Far Cry development gone?
Why can you no longer make great games with 3+ years of development time? CLEARLY 2 years isn't enough for you, clearly, you need more time to rethink ideas and develop.
I am dissapointed in you.
Not to mention, your customer support has become the worst I have ever experienced. Speaking as someone who owns a lot of Ubisoft games, unless something changes I can't see myself buying any more. If we can not trust you to respond to problems within reasonable timeframes, or even to acknowledge the issues, then it becomes unwise to purchase your products.
4 years = more hardware changes that can facilitate a more powerful engine.. the only thing that changed really..
BTW 1 was not made by usbi.. it was crytech..
2 sucked from the gun jams, malaria, and only corner jump points.
3 rocked..
primal.. totally sucked the eggs!!
4 rocked also but the .. the gfx engine was a step up.. just not as much as from 2 to 3 as the hardware had not evoled as much as the others..
5 if it were not for the forced capture .. the BEST Far Cry ever!!
New dawn.. it is exactly what it advertised to be.. and why it cost less..
papacitchi I totally agree with you. I think they do games for money.
FC5 is more of the same (a good game) but totally unpolished, it has mixed reviews on Steam and Ubisoft do not work on patches anymore, even if people is reporting lot of grotesque and unacceptable bugs (like an early access game).
Welcome to the new generation of games.
Why 3+??? Let's wait 10+! Judging your logic - game would be fantastic! The more time the game is developing the better the game. May be better waiting 15-20 years?! Mind blowing and jaw dropping game guaranteed. If not this life, next life we will play it! The more the game develops the better the game - false statement. Duke Nukem Forever was developing 14 years....and what? Good game?! Total trash. Ubisoft getting stronger today. Games are developed faster. 3+ is too much. 2 years - optimum variant. Sooner or later we will have Far Cry every year! Games will be made like sausages. And this is not bad! With good creative team, good equipment and technology.....no need to wait so long. The longer the game developping the more outdated it will be for the time of release. In many ways: graphics, mechanics...Every year is important. You have to not just keep up but stay ahead. He who hesitstes is lost. The faster the better!
So far Ubi support is batting 1000. 100% of the tickets I have put in have never been resolved by them.
I agree with the comment above about largely due to hardware and engine changes is why anymore it is NOT beneficial to be in development for 4 years. Largely, you can utilize a larger team and get the same exact polish as longer development. In some settings, more minds help because of new ideas, evolving programming for engines, etc. In the end it comes down to man hours. You can get that from a small team for longer, or a larger team for shorter time. Of course once a team reaches a certain size there is kind of a disconnect where you no longer feel as invested in the project.
I absolutely loved the first FC game. I honestly don't remember anything about it now, but I just remembered how much I loved it. A couple of the series I never hardly got going due to either some type of mission or just the motion settings. Some games I can never get past due to motion sickness issues.
I think I am the 'odd man out' in that I actually liked Primal over the base game. I think largely it was due more to the novelty and change of pace of going way back in time. However, the climbing got old in a hurry. I have finished the game and would like to platinum it but there are a couple of things around the edge that I have been unable to do. I probably will never finish those though.
I haven't yet played Blood Dragon but likely will after I get my fill of a couple of my other new games.
I loved Primal for the first 10 hours. I played without HUD. Night time freaked me out so bad. I was waiting for that attack from behind! It became so repetitive after a while and the clan never went and helped in the attacks at the end. A lot didn't make sense. I spent the last 15 hours getting the ridiculous collectibles. This was the least fun I have had getting a platinum but I was glad to finish. As I was playing I was thinking the game makers must have spent 2/3 of their time figuring out THE WORST places to hide collectibles so you couldn't get to them. While they should have spent that time developing more diverse missions and side missions.
Passion is good. But not enough. It must have some background, basis and strength. On one zeal you will not go far. There are 30.000 games in Steam....made with passion. Are they good?! Passion is very good. But without real possibilities it's doomed to fail. Just like this man on the pic - Не was motivated and very passionate.....but his body was not ready yet.![]()
