[BUG] DX12 crashes after long session with nvlddmkm error.

Well the title sais it all.

The game crashes randomly for me after like 2 hours of gameplay if I'm using DX12.

The game will freeze, PC will be locked down, and after like 30 seconds the game closes/crash and system comes back to normal.

And everytime there's an Event Viewer error saying "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

On DX11 there's just no crash no matter how long I'm playing.

For now I'm sticking with DX11 as on my system the performance is the same, but it would be nice if Massive / Ubi could take a look on this.

    I already:
    • Deleted DX12 shader cache inside game folder
    • Set DPI to application and disabled fullscreen optimizations
    • Increased my pagefile to 10Gb

    Here's my DXDiag: https://pastebin.com/M6tetFfK

    Anything else let me know.

I started to experience the very same situation today.

I have been playing the game since the early access on the 13th in DX11 mode without any problems. Yesterday I decided to give DX12 a go and while it seemed to run fine at first I also got display driver crashes after a few hours of gameplay.

    Game settings:

Resolution: 3840x2160, Fullscreen mode, 60Hz, Vsync On, Reduced Latency On, DX12 On, Ultra preset.

The game would freeze up and crash to the desktop with a display driver crash logged in windows event viewer.

The graphics card in question is a Nvidia Titan RTX using the latest drivers version 419.35.

I'm back to DX11 for now.

Thank you for looking into this.

    Best regards

Could you recommend a GeForce driver that works best in D2? I have a GTX-1080ti.

I have the same problem on both DX11 and DX12, the freeze can occur after anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, my only option is to task kill the game. Same warning in the event logs.

I don't have issues on DX11, but I use driver 417.71 as still is the latest most stable one.

I also have deleted the DX11 shadercache folder inside the game data folders (documents > my games > the division 2 > shadercache), set DPI to "Application" and "Disabled fullscreen optimizations" (both on the .EXE properties > compatibility tab)

    @ Development/Tech Support

Due to this being a rather broad issue, could we have a debug or Verbose logging utility we could use on the Game/PTS and then send crash logs to you guys when this happens?

It would be amazing if we could crush this bug and allow people to enjoy the game without constant crashing.

I'll pass on the desire for that sort of tool to the team! Please make sure that when you are playing you have all other programs turned off including making sure they do not turn on as background applications. Some players have stated that Hardware Acceleration causes issues, and many programs use Hardware Acceleration like browsers or music/communication apps.

    DX 12 Issues

I don't want to start another Dx12 thread or hijack yours but I wanted to add my voice to the dx12 issue conversation. I have read a few reviews on dx11 vs dx12 on D2 from some of the bigger hardware websites and they have all mentioned that dx12 comes with a "catch" and that is the hitching, or crashes.

I switched to dx12 (Ultra Settings) over the weekend and saw a 10+fps jump (I didn't even notice the dx12 option till this weekend) but started having occasional "slow motion" situations. Everything in the game would slow down for like 2 seconds then back to normal.. Obviously, this can cause some moments of terror when a elite is slamming you with a sledge hammer.

I have zero issues with dx11 (Ultra Settings) and game still runs 90+fps so I am just playing on dx11 till it is worked out.

    PC stats:
    2700x
    Vega 64
    32gb DDR4
    NVMe SSD
    X470 Ultra
    RMx 850w

Edit: I have verified the game files, have current windows, drivers etc. I switched back and forth a few times over the weekend, tried different settings and always had same issue with dx12.

I'll necro this thread to state categorically that the DX12 bug STILL ISN'T FIXED!
