Ok I am not new to the game franchise but where are all the tutorials.
I have people walking around with icons above their heads that mean nothing to me and I can't find a guide for them in-game anywhere.
Where's all the instructions on what keys to use?
What doe's a picture of duct tape with 2/3 mean??
Have I missed the tutorial completely or is there a setting or something I missed?
The "Survival Guide" in the main menu serves as a tutorial. Go to Options>Keyboard+Mouse, and select Ground, Vehicles or Helicopters to see or remap the keys used.
The icons above NPCs heads denote the various Facilities or other things they pertain to. Certain NPCs work for certain Specialists, whom head those facilities. For instance anyone you see with a [!] icon works for Bean, whom gather intel on valuable item locations for WikiBeania. There are also some NPCs with icons that pertain to side missions, treasure hunts, etc. Any time you see someone with such an icon it means they have something useful to tell you. The green icon is a Shopkeeper whom will trade skins for valuable resources, sell weapons, ammo, etc.
The little icons of Duct Tape, Shock Springs, Gears, etc, are Locations. If one says 2/3 above it it means you have collected 2 out of 3 of the items it has. Once you collect them all it will show a green check mark. Note that Timber is a valuable companion for finding such resources because he can highlight them for you.
Duct tape 2/3 means there is still one more duct tape you can get in that area. Icons, they probably have missions, side missions, or other information to give you. Talk to all of them. I'd suggest two things to do before doing all of the story missions, see where it says challenges in your menu. Do as many of those as you can. 5 kills with a certain gun, or 10, do all of the beginner weapons. Some weapons you can get off the enemy when you kill them. You dont keep them but you can use them to get some of the challenges done. All the challenges give you skill points to upgrade your character.
Also, take a few outposts early. Do them twice and dont get detected when you do them. Its easy. Just disable the alarm. As long as the alarm doesn't go off you can slaughter them as you like. Retaking the outpost will be two alarms. I just sneak to the first alarm and shotgun it and then run to the other alarm and shoot it before they set it off. If the alarm goes off you can go back to last checkpoint and start the outpost over. Outposts give you the most ethanol and you need that to upgrade your home. That's important because there are 3 tiers to your home. You cant craft the best weapons until you get to level 3 at your home. You need ethanol for that. You will need the best weapons later in the game. I roam around a lot, before I concentrate on the main story. It's a good way to level up first.
I just started playing this game yesterday, but in the last 6 weeks I have played through Far Cry 3,4,5, and Primal. New Dawn is by far the easiest for me. Just take your time. There can be some random funny stuff in these games. I love this series.
That explains why two weapons I didn't get early on were so hard to kill HM when I was higher leveled. I had to punch and then shoot them.Originally Posted by NLRicker Go to original post![]()
If you've upgraded Prosperity to level 2 and now all the enemies in the world are rank 2 and you still have some rank 1 weapon challenges, you can start any of the rank 1 Expeditions (if you haven't completed them all) and do those challenges.
Note that you'll have to complete the Expedition for the challenges to be saved.
You can do the same for leveling up your GFH/FFH.
Good point. I wasn't sure what caused the enemies to level-up. I maxed out Prosperity and did all the level III expeditions before trying to clean up my challenges. At that point, the level 1 weapons are essentially useless. The only way to get a kill with one is to use something else until the enemy is nearly dead and then finish him off with the beginner weapon. Easier said than done and (for me) not worth the effort.
