medal requirements design
As I see there are 6 kinds of medals now.
no medal (finish track with slower time than bronze)
bronze medal
silver medal
gold medal
platinum medal
diamond medal
In Evo and Fusion the requirements for the medals were faults and time, but usually faults were more important. In rising you get 5 secs for a fault and the only requirement is time.
Therefore I first tried gold on almost all tracks up to the hard tracks and I wouldn't consider myself a very good player. I barely could get gold on all fusion extreme tracks and this was just a few weeks ago. In fusion for example you needed 0 faults for gold on easy and most medium tracks and 3-5 faults on most hard tracks. Now I can get gold on any track with 3 faults and even more than 10 on some hard tracks.
To a further extent it makes great recoveries superfluous because resetting and getting 5 secs is more efficient.
In the first place it looks like 6 medals but in the end there are just 2 medals for me. Gold for finishing a track and platinum for a very good run. The difference between gold and platinum is usually huge.
Medals worse than gold are probably just for first time players and diamonds are for speedrun grinders. So not for me.
What motivates is doing small steps. Going from bronze to silver, then to gold and then for platinum reducing faults and finding the time savers in the last step. But here I could get gold so easily and platinum always seems far away. It's just too easy when you can beat a gold medal time with 50 m wheelie and 20 backflips. And for me it kills lots of the motivation as the contracts mostly are not much fun. I have done all until I unlocked the extreme maps but I don't want to go for 50+ tries just to get a contract done for fame (doesn't change anything), a sticker (1 of 1.000.000 I don't care about) and little gold.
What I would like to see:
1. medals being dependent on faults in the first place
2. an option to remove the faces from the map

I agree Golds are too easy. Platinum and Diamond are just right. They can't change it now though.
As for 5 second faults and leaderboards sorted by time only, I also agree the purity of fewer faults then time is better, but it doesn't bother me much.

You are right, they probably won't change it anymore.
But it's hard to see, where I need to improve as everything is gold on my map and just very few are platinum.
Further there is no information on my number of faults when I just look at the track on the map. I have to check the leaderbooards which takes more time.
This should be implemented as for example my last goal in fusion was to 0 fault all hard tracks. Now my only goal can be to platinum all tracks and I can imagine this is too much grinding for my liking.

I'm filtering by League (or you could do same by filtering for Stadiums only I think), and going through each separately to see if Platinum is viable for me. If I barely beat Gold there's probably room for improvement, and if I'm close to Platinum I try to eke out the extra gains.

I don't understand why it doesn't inform the player about Platinum or Diamond Medals until they actually get one. I knew about the Platinum's from Fusion but not the Diamond ones; Fusion made more sense of opening platinums up after the Greater Crater had been completed.

Platinum and diamonds seem all right to me. Gold is just way too easy and this makes the other medals obsolete. I watched a video of a guy doing 20 backflips on one slope to finish a contract. On the post race screen the gold medal opponent was still more than 1 minute behind. Was this really intended?
For example:
I finish a hard track in 1:00.00 and receive gold. But I see another shadow rider doing the track in 2:40.00 and also getting gold. In this example I could make 20 more faults and still finish gold. Maybe 2-3 less because of lost time from faulting. The platinum time for this track might be 0:50.00.
This just feels unbalanced. I have to make a perfect run within my skills for platinum and getting all time savers. This might take me a few hundred restarts. The average player, who barely gets gold will probably never attempt to imrove. When I would have a 2:30.00 time and platinum was 0:50.00 I would not even try.
