Do you think co-op mode increases difficulty?

So my brother and I both play solo a fair amount on Extreme difficulty. He’s actually playing on Tier Mode these days (around Tier 30). I play mostly lone wolf when I’m solo.

Lately, we’ve started playing more coop which is a lot of fun. But we think the game difficulty increases in coop or, I suppose the more logical explanation is that our play style is a bit more reckless is coop. Either way, we are dying and failing missions way more often than if we were playing solo.

Here’s some odd things I’ve noticed in coop that I haven’t seen playing solo.
    - Enemies spawning in after we are well within 100m of an outpost. Example: we went to an outpost last night, recon the place from high ground 100m out with the drone. Spot a few enemies but note the minigun nest tower has no bad guys. Proceed to start sniping. Instantly, we’re taking fire from the nest. Two guys literally spawned there AFTER we engaged.
    - Enemies are Tier Level aim bots. My brother disables Tier Mode for coop. We both play on Extreme, but it feels like the enemies are at Tier Level awareness and aimbots. Zero reaction time, instant death. We seem to get wiped out much quicker and more often than usual.
    - Hunted status without doing anything. And reinforcements arriving after silently sniping some lone thug who cannot be seen by anyone. I’ve never witnessed this playing solo. If a shot is heard or misses, a kill witnessed, or a body found, ok... I get that. But a single stealth kill triggering an alert and reinforcements seems unusual to say the least.

We’ve concluded we either suck in coop or the game is cheating. I’m going with the latter of course

Has anyone else felt the game is cheating more than usual in coop?

I have noticed it too that some enemies AI reaction are quicker and slightly different. The most significant example is the Unidad. Their response time is somehow shorter and their reinforcements are persistent and way more important in number. I think it's a way the game has to counter balance human players.

Interesting. We did have one encounter with Unidad and paid dearly for it. I laterally took one bullet from a Unidad before going down. Again, reminding me of Tier Mode difficulty.

But it’s not just Unidad, The Cartel Uzi snipers are also out in full force.

I never really paid attention about them, strangely... I have stopped playing the game on Tier mode/extreme with randoms though

There are issues with the game itself in co-op regardless of difficulty.
Just a few examples off the top: Double spawning of the same convoy, with only one vehicle being taggable and players having different one's highlighted; respawning same enemy NPCs immediately after killing (rarely seen it happen in solo play); players not having the same enemy in the same location on their screen (i.e. one player has enemy in a building among a group, other players have same enemy outside, alone).

I don't find it more difficult, per se.

I do find that it's an adjustment where in solo, we (I) become a bit lazy, relying on the AI to do a lot of the heavy lifting, but in co-op, you are suddenly relying on your real life team, who have odds of missing shots or opportunities. This makes us more alert, focused, and involved, which, to me, makes us better players. The main thing though is .. communication. Whether team members are related or not, communication is a must at all times. Stop communicating for even a little bit and then watch crap hit the fan.

My other suggestion is to drop to the next difficulty level. Advanced isn't necessary in my books.

Other than what Mike has pointed out, I don't see any differences in enemy levels, other than perhaps an increase in the amount of them at a location compared to solo mode, although this could merely be my imagination. What does change though is timing, because where in solo mode, you move quickly, having made your decisions already, but with a team, you naturally stop, wait, plan, and execute (you are doing all this, right?), all the while that the enemies have spawned and begun their routines, which now don't match what you may have been used to in solo mode. That, in itself, could give the impression that there are more enemies than you thought.

Having said all that, if you have at least one player whose middle name is "Rambo" or "Rambette", then I wish you all the luck in the world, because communication and team work doesn't exist with those types of players. They are not built for co-op.

All this is, of course, my own perspective on your OP question.

    Mongol Horde out.

Agreed, I don't think that there's any real difficulty increase. Coop just suffers from horrible desync, no matter your location, router settings and bandwidth.

No idea. But I did play 2-player with two separate friends back in the day and we often got kicked in the ***. Though I always reminded them to try another strategy after 2 failures and we succeeded.

The randomly respawning enemies actually saved me some time a couple of weeks back with one of the daily challenges (I believe it was "CQC Kill 3 Unidad heavies in a row or something like that) - I managed to kill off 2 of them, started moving off to look for a third, and the last ne I had killed respawned behind me, meaning I could just double-back and flashbang him for the take-down.

Not in a way that is noticeable, on a side note I've been trying to replicate a spawn glitch for the longest. The spawn glitch that causes enemies to spawn in one spot by the dozens. Had it happen a while back playing online with some folks. We were on one of the Unidad missions and we had nearly over 100 Unidad troops coming at us. It was freaking terrifying, seeing all of those purple dots on the HUD surrounding us, closing in.
