Hi. Thought of this thread like a week later on a lark and came back to see this. Hi ubisoft! I'm sorry the thread has devolved so much.Originally Posted by UbiCosmos Go to original post
People offered suggestions, and I did try them out. Went out of my way to upgrade Nemean Lion and go into crit heavy builds with non-DLC gear for shiggles.
I eventually settled on Greek Heroes with some boss-weapons like Harpe and Labrys. It does decent damage, I'm well above max level and have around 50% crit chance. Is it fun? I think so. Took -alot- of work to get, though.
And it's because of that work I dont think the solution is viable for people early game, I even went and started a new save just to see if it was as bad as I was remembering. Sure enough, it was. The problem is simply, the scaling. The way warrior damage scales, even with around 90% into a weapon's damage, and elemental damage, it just wasn't enough over pure crit. Even if supposedly the damage would have been -over- what I would have accomplished with my current crit build. If I didn't know better I'd say non-crit damage has a upper limit that cannot be exceeded, and if such a upper limit exists, I'd say removing it probably would fix the issue.
I dont think buffing warrior damage is really a big ask, however, if you were very adversed to that, I would say, maybe look at enemy armor, enemy health, the damage scaling on these abilities and what the damage actually is. Because right now, Warrior damage without crit simply feels worthless. And not nearly enough offense for what your sacrificing in survivability if you dont use greek heroes. The spartan hero set is supposed to make me an offensive powerhouse, yet that 50% just...doesn't do much.
And I think if the level cap is raised it's an issue that will be further exaserbated. I restate what I said at the beginning of the thread, that I just want this issue to be looked at while the game is still supported. I love Odyssey. I love the atmosphere, and the setting. I love that in gamings lifespan we have got another game that looked at Ancient Greece. I just want it done justice.
@Show_stoppa. While I'm here, I may as well respond to some of these. Not because I think there's anything I could further say, but because of how you keep misunderstanding what I'm saying, your actually painting me as saying things I didn't. So I'm going to respond to some specific paragraphs and let the rest sit.
"You mentioned something about people getting adapted to the current mechanics and thus it being their fault for not recognizing the issues. Again, try to reconsider if it is actually the fault of people who have adapted to the gameplay, or is it the fault of people who can't adapt to the current gameplay mechanics?"
I did not say this. I said, that those who have allready adapted tend to be resistant to change in any form, and thus dont actually consider the question when it's raised. That's not a mark against them, that's just people. S'nobody's fault, and I resent this insinuation.
"Again you mention, you would rather have something which is linear, and has no RPG elements. I think that again is just a fancy way of saying that the game should have what you want and only what you want and not something that caters for multiple playstyles."
Blatant lie. I said that if you are going to make an RPG, make sure all playstyles you offer are actually viable. And not 'one playstyle works, the rest are obsolete." That has allways been my issue with Odyssey. That only crit damage is viable given it seems to be exempt from apparent damage caps. In fact, I liked Origin's over previous AC style games because the focus of the RPG elements there was on the core moveset of the character, and less on stats, which helped stopgap the problems we now have where most of your effectiveness is heavily reliant on stats.
"Also, I see alot of people saying "this is single player game and hence should not have any balancing"... The balancing is not there for PvP. The balancing is there so that people who want to play differently aren't forced to play the game only in a certain way. "
If this is true, then why are we arguing? Because I've been arguing for more options, not less. This is the same problem, all ways of building warrior are inferior to one way, and instead of that one way being nerfed, I am proposing to bump all other ways up to that point, so everything is viable. I do not see why this is a problem.
I use 'in my view' because if I dont people will scream about how that's 'just my opinion'. Damned if I do and damned if I dont. I dont have a problem with disagreeing, I dont have a problem with people thinking the system is fine as it is, but let no man misrepresent what I have said. By the (Apparent) damage-caps on normal non-crit damage, we have created a senario like pre-patch where hunter-builds one-shotted everything and so nobody played anything else. I'm just proposing the reverse solution, to bump everything up so we can choose between them as we like.
And trust me, I would like to see this ironed out -precisely because- of how repetative the old games got. I want to see this RPG format become more prevelent within the series.
Going to go ahed and likely forget about this thread again. I hope Ubisoft at least gets something out of it, and the criticism I attempted to convey. Even if going forward maybe they take a look at what the damage scaling is and how it works, this thread will have been worthwhile. And thanks again to Ubisoft for the wonderful game, with wonderful characters.
