Random Black screen during game play

    All,

Just built a new PC two weeks ago (Ryzen 7 1700, RX 580 8GB, 16GB RAM and an xg2401 monitor), clean windows install with latest drivers. During gameplay, I am experiencing random black screens for roughly 1 second. Scoured the internet and tried several possible solutions (stop all programs with overlays and disable uplay overlay, disable freesync and run in windowed mode). Nothing I have tried fixes the issue, this only happens in Division 2; can play Division 1, BFV and Anthem without the black screen issues.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    I'm also experiencing this.

    8700k
    GTX 970
    16GB RAM
Two displays, FreeSync on the monitor with the game

The display goes black for a second randomly during gameplay. One thing I can point out is that, when this happens while streaming, I can verify that the black screen isn't occuring on the stream feed. In fact, it's gotten to when this happens in-game, I'll quickly look at OBS on my second monitor to look at the preview feed so I can continue to play through the issue. This isn't caused by OBS or streaming, though, as it happens when that program isn't running.

I've updated my video driver, verified that no overlay programs are running. I haven't disabled Freesync yet, though I don't plan to now if it didn't help xDarkDante.

One other thing I can say is that I don't remember ever having this problem during beta. Back then, I was running with a GTX 1080. That card died, and it is being sent on RMA under warranty. I've reinstalled the 970, my previous card, in the meantime. Along with that I am using an HDMI connection as opposed to the DisplayPort I used with the 1080.

After several days and an entire weekend, I narrowed it down to either the DisplayPort on the Monitor (xg2401) or Card (RX 580), swapping out DisplayPort cables did nothing. The only stable resolution I found (~1 week now) was to use HDMI instead of DisplayPort.

That kinda makes sense. This 970 card I'm using has a mini HDMI port, so I've got an HDMI cable from my monitor going into a mini HDMI adapter, into the card. I was wiggling that adapter around, and that made the screen go black.

Still doesn't make sense why this only happens in the Division 2 though...

Wondering if you found a fix for your issue? I also have a new build with an RX590 card and Im also getting a black screen / freezing screen during game play. Been playing Apex and RE2 and havent run into this issue with other games.

Also, Ive been playing Division 2 on my gaming laptop with an Nvidia card and havent run into the same issues.

    Could it be card related?

Unsure if it is card related, but switching from Display Port cable to HDMI has resolved my issues. Again, this only happens when playing Division 2; do not see it playing Anthem, Battlefield V or other AAA titles.

Been using an HDMI cord as well and still having the issues. I’ll try using a different hdmi cord and see if it resolves the issues

Edit: Nevermind, now I’m getting frozen screens on my laptop today. Was playing a mission and the game froze and could only bring up task manager to get out of the frozen screen

I've got a GTX 1080 again, so I'm back to using DisplayPort with my monitor. The issue is still happening, so xDarkDante's fix does not work for me.

This has started to happen outside of Division 2. It's happened while watching full screen (or near full screen) streaming videos, as well as in the demo for Supraland (an Unreal Engine game). In fact, in Supraland, after a few typical black flashes throughout a 20+ minute playthrough, the last one actually caused the game to crash. That's a surprise, as so far this issue has appeared to not affect the PC itself.

I haven't had the issue occur since I've disabled GSYNC two nights ago. Not satisfied yet if this is the culprit. Something I've noticed since I've done this is while the screen doesn't go black, I do notice some random hitching. It seems like this may have replaced the black screen. It seems as random, and to occur as often.

    Found some interesting information:

    https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/t...s-with-g-sync/

This shows that it is an older issue, and I think my experience with Division 2 verifies something that is said here. The trigger appears to be quick FPS changes. Where you were doing 60+ FPS and suddenly dropped to 10 for a split second, instead of seeing this hitch as it happens, with this issue the monitor just loses video for a moment, then comes back. We never see the actual hitch.

It is suggested here that enabling GSYNC for both fullscreen and windowed is a fix.

This appears to be the current active thread on NVIDIA's forums. It's suggested the latest driver resolves the issue. I don't find this to be the case.
