I assume they like to mix it up every so many installments. Some loved that in 3 and 4 you got to play a character whom spoke to people like in Far Cry 1. Others thought the heroes in those games, especially Jason, were too wordy with immature dialog. I think Ajay is probably my fave character of all the FC games. The gameplay in 4 was pretty good too.
Dumb? I'm more interested why we are Mute! Is it better for immersion to be mute? May be, for better association with the game character, would be better to let him talk? To feel this character. To plunge into the character and become that character. His jokes, comments, answers....does it spoil immersion or make it deeper? May be better to change it sometimes - in one Far Cry we are mute, in another Far Cry we speak? These questions bother me. (As for me, I'm inclined more to - not mute character.)
It cuts both ways IMO. While I agree that a protagonist that speaks adds to the story and immersion, he/she also has to have good dialog and voice acting to support that. One of the main reasons I stopped having companions tag along in FC5 was their tendency to constantly banter back and forth with each other using the same old repeat dialog, which was always interrupted then reiterated. It got really annoying.Originally Posted by Loupblanc9175 Go to original post
