I want to start by saying that the beginner through hard tracks were almost all fantastic. Great lines, beautiful deco, i've grinded a few of them and they are really fun with some creative ideas. I was looking forward to playing the extreme tracks and after grinding and grinding I finally unlocked them and...man are they disappointing.
The biggest problem is that so many of the obstacles are practically carbon copies of other obstacles from extreme tracks in previous games. The fun of an Extreme track is figuring out how to tackle the specific obstacles, but in most of the extremes I knew how to do most of them because i've already done them before. The levels are still well decorated and the line is still ok, but I got gold on all of them except inferno V on the 1st or 2nd try which is kind of a bummer. I really hope if there is DLC Extremes that some more original obstacles are included. I should also say that Klondike Gold Rush and Inferno V seem to be exceptions to this, as the obstacles seem new to me (although Klondike relies heavily on physics elevators).
I'll try and do some digging to find concrete examples but it might take some time to remember all the old Extremes. Was wondering if anyone else feels the same about the Extremes.
@Jaminben
That is part of it for sure, but that's not necessarily my issue. The problem I had was some of the obstacles seemed re-used from previous games. There were some fun and challenging obstacles on Baikonpur and Inferno V that required some creative thinking/finesse to pull off, but I felt like they didn't push the creativity as much as they could of in most of the tracks. Maybe they had to save some of the more creative obstacles for the Ninjas, excited for those.
It’s all relative IMO. I think they are quite easy to pass for sure, but their length and the number of obstacles per track will make them hard for alot of people to zero fault IMO.
I thought the University of Trials consecutive bunny hop lesson was tougher than any of the extreme tracks.
Just had my first run through of the extremes today & I think they offer a good challenge - most of the obstacles were familiar as I've played through all the games from HD onwards & platinum'd most (but not all) extremes in them.
Baikonour in particular had some tricky problems & the barrels closed down the margin of error - be a tricky one to 0 fault. Didn't manage to pass inferno V, got to second last checkpoint so that presents a significant challenge.
Key thing is the extremes will never be as challenging as the first time you got to them as your skill level will have increased considerably.
Zoidberg, I hear what you are saying. The helium has been my go to now for extremes (feels like cheating maybe) but I think there is only so many obstacles and ways to attack them. I'm guessing that's why the ninja's and diamonds were included to give people who want more of a challenge something to get frustrated about. Once you've figured out a certain technique for getting by an obstacle (think of that one box jump in "Going Up" in HD) it becomes second nature and isn't as frustrating. Baikonpur and Inferno V would be a nightmare for new comers to the game.
