Hello everybody, just thought I would weigh in how I feel about Trials Rising, and honestly... I am really loving it for the most part! I know everybody's opinions may differ, but I will attempt to break down how I feel about the game in 5 different categories.
Music:
I am a big fan of this type of music. I feel like I am playing some of those old skateboard games and all of the soundtracks are good, except one or two for the most part. When I load up the game, hearing the music just feels good. Nothing else to really add here, I just really enjoy the music.
Single player
The track roster covers many different locations and vistas, from Japan to USA. While I can see why peoples opinions will differ on the choice to have the tracks on the world map, I really enjoy it, since the actual tracks represent that area of the map. The overall track quality and quantity of tracks are quite high for the base game and I look forward to the dlc's. In the meantime, I did do my best to get solid times on all tracks except unhappy camper and Inferno V.
The Sponsor system is neat, even though the challenges provided by them may be way way to hard for the average player, which leads to a decently large grind for players who don't have the skill set yet to complete them for the very large boost in exp. If you are already a capable trials player, you may enjoy them and progress through the single-player at a relatively good pace... and it doesn't feel like a grind at all.
Another tidbit, the University of Trials was very well implemented into the game and will definitely help players get better at the game, it taught me something I didn't really know and I have been playing these games for quite some time. Overall, I really enjoyed the single-player.
Player Customization
Mind blown. The trials rising sticker system is great and really helps the game stand out from the crowd. Very few sticker systems are this good and this one really works amazingly well! There is many stickers to unlock through the loot box mechanic that was introduced into this game.
Oh yea, lets talk about the loot box. Its alright, much of the cool gear isn't really unlocked through the loot boxes, a good amount of it is bought with in game currency. After beating the game, I can pretty much afford any clothing I want, so even though I am not the biggest fan of loot boxes, there is much more customization than Trials Fusion without spending a dime... with very little playtime at that.
Editor
The trials editor will always be a staple of the trials series and it appears to be even better than the previous games. I love using the sticker system to make primes look like rugs, adding banner designs to walls, scaling that flowerpot to flowerpot size, the better water effects, etc. Overall, very impressed, its just the trials editor at the top of its game.
Track Central
You know whats not at top of its game? Track Central... All that was needed was to use the layout that previous trials games had and you will have few problems and people would have been happy. The Trials Rising layout is bad, I don't like it, other people don't like it. The rest of the game, for the most part is super neat, but please adjust how track central works. I can already tell maps are suffering with downloads/ratings compared to Trials Fusion and it really sucks, because so much of this game is so good IMO.
A few other things
It is upsetting that private multiplayer isn't released yet, still, it is good that it is confirmed to release soon, at least judging by the main menu. This mode is a staple for people learning the new editor and showing off their tracks to their friends. The later private multiplayer releases, the more it will hurt this game. Regardless, looking forward for when it comes out.
That is about it for my opinions about Trials Rising. Overall, I really enjoy it, but the track central and private multiplayer need to be both fixed and released ASAP. Regardless, good job on the game Redlynx.
