i eventually tried rerunning the beta missions with subpar gear but A) that only really adds the wrong kind of difficulty since the mobs still just stand there and take shots, whether its 3 bullets or 30 bullets doesnt change much other than mission time, and B) it eliminates the entire "looter" aspect of this looter shooter, since if i pick up that sweet purple im right back where i started, melting boring mobsOriginally Posted by Oxford_Comma Go to original post

Personally, I like the changes made in the open beta. The damage mechanics / balance feel good IMO and I personally believe this one thing Ubi is getting right in this iteration compared to the original. The open beta also feels better in this regard compared to the private beta.Originally Posted by UbiInsulin Go to original post
I think you folks are on the right path personally. The increased lethality to both the player and enemy is refreshing. Tactics, cover and shot placement is much more effective now. ....although the accuracy of some enemies seems a little silly especially those shooting full auto weapons with one hand. Reminds me of the dual wielding narcos with Uzis in GRW.
I really hope you guys don't revert the lethality back to it's spongy past. If necessary, I think the challenging nature of the gameplay can be tweaked in other ways but I'm ok with the way it is.
So why a post like this then? Don't take this negative. It's a serious question. I just don't like to see all the time that console players are getting put in a box on which is written "Console player, noob anyway".Originally Posted by Alanwsl Go to original post
@Kean: Well put
I personally much prefer playing against smarter enemies who outflank me or rush me etc. AND with good gear I can one shot if they are low level.
It feels a lot more fun to me, and it feels more "realistic" (not that I care too much for that as we are having fun here as priority 1) if I shoot a low level guy with little or no armor with a large caliber rifle to see them drop in one shot vs keep running at me as I riddle them with massive bullets.
I would rather have to keep my eyes and ears open for flankers, rushers, RC cars etc. etc. than just be pumping round after round into fat sponges or whack-a-moles who hide behind their cover forever and never move to attack me.
The panic of having to react to a group of even low levels who in a group are a threat is better than the feeling I get firing round after round at an NPC popping in and out of the same cover element over and over and over every time I scope on him...
i think in the long run, Difficulty settings is the only real avenue. higher Difficulties would have Enemies that are harder to defeat (including higher EHP), and Rewards to coincide.
so if Players are intent on Enemies dying "realistically" while they get hit by thousands of rounds and not care, they can have it. and those looking for something that pushes back really hard, higher Difficulties for that.
ex. in the Open Beta, i found the Invaded Endgame Mission to be kinda easy in most parts. a couple rooms were difficult, but mostly it was you just shoot the dudes and continue on. and yes, i played on Hard.
but, the first game had 3 or sometimes 4 Difficulties to Missions so.... maybe that's the best answer? i very much enjoyed the Difficulty of the Legendary Missions in the first game (with the Stats we had available). despite the Difficulty of the Enemies, you could still do everything effectively if you chose to build for that. so if you wanted super high Damage, you still could if you went for the Damage Stat.
or you could mix everything to an average level - but you couldn't do everything at once. it was nice.
I still think that the first mission and open world is to hard even on normal, the change from the story version to normal is insane and you play it with the same gear. I am unsure why they have difficulty settings for some parts of the game, but not all of them and why normal is already so hard in crappy leveling gear. I would prefer if they just extended the difficulty options, after all they didn't really put much effort into crating the current ones, so people have more options. I am far to old to care about only running the perfect build and instead just have fun with what i found, but it seems fun is not a goal many have when playing games.Originally Posted by Kean_1 Go to original post
