Spongy is developers code for lack of creativity... It's been like this for years in loot shooters and until AI actually becomes good in NPCs it's all we'll ever get. It's getting a little better with NPC flanking but the endless magazines in to a heavy breaks emersion and is nothing but a corperate shortcut for game longevity.

I don't find the game too hard. The NPC in the DZ on hard landmarks can be difficult because three of them can be yellow tanks and if they flank you there is nothing you can do. Just get a blue LMG as fast as you can to make it bearable.

There absolutely must be a better way to make a game difficult than what we have here.

They nerfed their health, so they aren't super bullet sponges, their damage seems the same, as in you can still die pretty quick. I do admit that the enemy are far to accurate and seem to have 0 recoil what so ever. Its like a laser gun from them mostly. My issue with the game is how they can rush you, and you can shoot entire clips into them and they just keep running at you like the bullets aren't hitting them. Its not as bad as in TD1 though, but still if I am unloading a full clip of a smg or AR into a persons head/chest they should stop charging me and flinch or something at least.

I also find solo a tad hard in this game, not because of the enemies health or damage, the fact that when everything is focused on you, there is really not much you can do to fight back, everytime you pop out of cover to take a shot you just get sprayed with bullets as they never seem to need to reload either. The skills like turret etc, just don't have enough health they die in like 1-2 seconds once thrown.

I also find grenades near useless both in TD1 and 2, the enemies are psychic, each time I toss a grenade at them, even if its from behind them, they somehow know and always move out of the range of it. They are good for making enemies move, but in terms of actual damage, they rarely do anything. Only way I've seen to use them reliably is use a LMG to supress the target then toss a grenade at them, otherwise they will just run out of range.

Skill cooldowns are also far to long for how little they actually do in most cases. So far the best skill imo is the survivalists healing seeker grenade, as it lasts a while, tends to be behind you so its not shot at, and heals pretty fast. The healing drone is kinda crap, because everytime you use it, it just gets killed if your not behind a wall as it sits right out in the open.

While I like the game, the combat has quite a few balance issues i'd like sorted out.

Please Stop, first time playing this game was on open beta...… played march 1, 2nd, and now 3rd. This game is close to easy peazy. if you play the way that it was meant to be played. the only time it gets over powering is when you are in a group. Enemy level scaling for group play is ridiculous.... literally you have elites walking up on you with shotties just one hit killing you while you empty clips into them and hardly doing a dent.
as far as free roam being hard..... you gotta utilize cover, drones, turrets, grenades, different weapon types, and stronger weapons. you are doing something wrong.
And asking for help makes the enemies harder. you need to get used to the game. this isn't a run and shoot type game although that does work for some.

************** forgot to add that I am playing this game using a controller and I beat all the open beta that was offered to me ***************

Yeah, I agree on the scaling, I did the "endgame" mission on hard with just me and a friend and it was decently challenging, but not too hard or easy. Then we tried it with a 4 man team and we just got crapped on, didn't seem to be getting more or better loot either for having more people. Like you said their health and damage got jacked sky high. I don't mind enemy health going up when in a 3-4 man squad, but their damage should not like double or triple as well. I mean even solo/2 man you can die pretty fast as the enemies are bascally firing 0 recoil 100% accurate laser guns they never seem to reload. They also need to cap how many grenades enemys have, because i've had some of them in big firefights throw upwards od 10-20 grenades from the same npc.

    Thanks buddy.

We've said it over and over again and people don't listen, I'm not trying to be rude in any way, but this game isn't a FPS. It's a TPS, cover-based, looter-shooter ARPG. Pay attention to that bold part at the end, it's important. In RPG games, you don't just use your skills and one-shot enemies. They have health bars, armor bars, etc., which means that they are meant to be spongy and not realistic. It goes hand-in-hand with the people complaining about bugs in betas or the game not being finished in early access. There's a reason they call them betas and early access, they tell you over and over that it's not a finished product yet people don't listen.

The game is meant to challenge you, to test your tactics and strategy and the enemies reflect that. There's a reason you don't just have four magazines with thirty rounds each and you're golden. You literally have 800+ bullets for one weapon. That's not realistic! Who cares 800+ bullets in their cargo pants? They don't. If we're going to complain about realism, I can't absolutely get petty and tear TD2 apart and almost every other game out there that isn't going for realism because it's just that, not realistic. They did it on purpose.

Regardless, the game is not too hard, you just have to have a better strategy for dealing with enemies. Today, I'm going through the missions available in Hard mode solo and if that can be done with a level eight character with no purple loot (I'm slacking), it's not too difficult. It comes down to strategy and not running out all gung ho.

It is not 'too hard' you need to change up your playstyle 😊
I completed The engame mission on my "The Specialist Class Rocket Launcher loadout" solo @ level 37.
You just have to be more tactical.

Just did right now 4 random guys no mic hard end game mission, we did on the first run no problem, it was challenging enough it wasnt ez. i like were it was, i did died fall back they respawn me, and some time me to tham. we were pacient weight on the back, wen we rushed to win terrain we did it together, never we used the mic or the text chat. it was like we played for years. maybe we were all div1 veterans lol =P but i am not some hardcore player i am a standard one only got time to play at weekends i got a job and a wife. conclusion it was on point the difficulty for a hard, maybe they will have challenging and will be harder i see sapce for that increse. we could do harder. so for me it was perfect.
