I'm good with 4 - they do well enough if they're strong when you recruit - more than that might clutter up a smaller Penteconter (sp) & bireme. ?
I'm just thankful that when your fighting on deck that you aren't hitting your own crew everywhere -
it's impossible not to attack them with the mayhem going on.
I used to board ships early on in the game, to regain health. But I got better, once I got used to the naval system. But occasionally I do stupid things (probably out of arrogance, thinking I'm unbeatable) & board just to avoid desynch. But even from early on. I was always first on board the enemy ship, I use 'Ring of Chaos' & that usually sends more than half the enemy crew overboard. It's the quickest & easiest way to clear a ship!
Regarding lieutenants. I got so many. I'm sure I have better ones than I'm using, but they work for me. I don't really get beat at sea! I sometimes think more would be better. But You would have to make enemy ships better too. So again, swings & roundabouts. pro's & cons etc
We sound alot alike - today I was timing my boardings after I had 3 ships waiting out there with the anchor symbols over them. If I'm getting beat up too badly, I'll hurry over to a floating ship & board it for full health then go back into the fight.Originally Posted by thegardener25 Go to original post
And I time when I 'take command' of the ship too. I wait for the ones coming after to me to be positioned right in front of me as they circle around then give them a good ram.
Otherwise if you take command too early, they're in prime positions to attack you as soon as you take control.
As for Leiutenants, ya, if they're working fine & you're taking out the crew, just leave it alone.
I was shocked when Barnabas informed me of some salvage nearby& I grabbed it, and it was an epic bow!! ?
Then later, I got some green Gems, some iron,... that was great.
Leather would be helpful right now too :/
they dont need to be strong when you recruit them, they level up with you and their "star stats", rarity and whether they were a elite/captain (etc) dont effect there boarding strength (well except LTs that increase LT/crew health/damage)
what you really want is mercs as they have the best attack sets and may have fire/poison bombs fire/poison arrows and/or smoke bombs
2x of my LTs are only 3star one is legendary with good buffs (although only 3 star) and the other is epic with really poor buffs, yet they kick as much *** (and fall over dead completely unexpectedly including after all enemies are dead) as my 5 star LTs. They are rather good looking so well i admit thats why they are on board
in fact my 3 star "someone the proudmane" is the most deadly. she has a single dagger and a bow with exploding fire arrows. she is just too fast for enemy crews and its awesome having fire arrows exploding all around you and they arent actually targeting you or do any damage to you for once heh
they level up with you so whether they are 1 star or 5 they are just as efficient in fighting.
i have noticed depending on ship size more or less will board with you. on penteconters usually im on my own or 2 LTs will board with and no crew (although that could be how quick i kill the crew? as there is only 4? and ofcourse ROC makes most of those a half second fight)
id love a LT island where they are all just wondering around (kinda like what ubi has done in far cry new dawn, although obviously a huge difference in numbers of LTs vs guns for hire) where i can just hang out with them and check them out, and where you can hire onto ship or dismiss from there too so can do so based on looks/weapons/armour/beards? etc and remove double ups such as same armour/weapon combination
Yeah ProdiGurl, I'm the same, never automatically sink or board a ship if there are other targets in the vicinity. Those disabled ships are your insurance! Blackflag was my favourite AC ps3 game, & that was the main strategy that I carried over to Odyssey! Be fully equipped to take on anybody, but have a nearby ship to board that'll take you out of the heat, regain ship integrity, then battle on until you clear them all!
There are no mortars, swivel/puckle guns or anything else like BF or Rogue. But you can turn the adrestia on a pin head, Use Travel speed to get up to speed, before hitting boost & Ram, then flamethrow, turning as needed to spraypaint the entire ship in fire, turn & hit with fire javelin's! Naval turned out to be so much better than I imagined!
But I don't do it often enough. Because I need to have several ship contracts before I head to sea. I don't want to sail past pirates & spartan ships, when I'm on the lookout for Athenian pentecosters. I need a full list of all ships, all sizes, before I take to the water!
Osamaclees, I get what you're saying about lieutenant skills, I chose mine randomly, based purely that they were golden. I recruited them, & did a basic comparison to who I had in place. & you know the choices you have to make. But I only stuck with them, based on their naval skills. I don't have call to arms ability. And when it comes to boarding. I would prefer to be on board the enemy ship on my own. because crew get in my way. Every fight is my fight. And I don't want to hurt my crew.
