Wildlands is my fav game by far but I’ve done all there is to do many many times now.
I like the massive open world, modern day weapon choices and customization, gun play, stealth, realism, and character customization.
So what to play next?
I’m familiar with Far Cry and enjoyed it before I discovered Wildlands, but don’t like the looks of New Dawn, the weapons seem corny, and I find Far Cry less realistic than Wildlands which turns me off.
I hear good things about MGS5 but it’s pretty old now. Will I likely enjoy it given what I like about Wildlands.
And I might like the Division 2 but hear that enemies are bullet sponges which is probably going to ruin it for me and I understand the map is smaller, all urban, and not truly open, but maybe I misunderstand.
What other games do Wildlands fans enjoy?
I'd suggest sniper elite 4. Its a series of large open sandbox style maps set in ww2 with realitic bullet physics, body damage, and concealment systems.
Edit: the only thing i did not like about it is that in real life, shooting explsives such as a holstered grenade will not necessary make it explode. Its still a fun gameplay mechanic though
MGSV is an awesome Masterpiece, but feels a bit bulky/heavy from Time to Time. It has excellent Stealth Mechanics tho.
Sniper Elite 4 is also a good Choice if you like exact Planning and Realism, but it has "older" Weapons of course.
Don't try Sniper Ghost Warrior. It's a terrible Mess, and buggy on top.
I played FC2 some Weeks ago, and it still has some very nice Mechanics. If you have no Problems with outdated Graphics it's a good time.
If you don't need modern Warfare and Weapons but like being a stealthy Badass you might like Dishonored.
I concur Sniper Elite 4 is pretty good.
From 2017 I enjoyed Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, CoD WWII, RE7, AC Origins, ME: Shadow of War, ME Andromeda.
From 2018 I plan to play AC Odyssey, Hitman 2, Battlefield V, and Just Cause 4. I did play Far Cry 5 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. FC 5 I didn't like too much. SotTR has some pretty good content, but backtracking for items you missed can be a pain, and the bigger battles are too scripted and short. Plus I got a big hitch in certain places. It still has plenty of good content that make it well worth playing though, especially the tombs, which are now more elaborate and challenging.
Of 2019 I've played and plan to play,
RE2 Remake
This game is very good and well optimized. Despite having only 8 basic levels (4 of which are the main ones) it feels like a bigger world than it really is. This is because you have to explore the entirety of it to find valuable resources and items needed to get to other areas. It also has an adaptive combat system, meaning if you're doing well, when you least expect it a regular zombie here and there may take way more ammo to take down than before. Thus you have to think on your feet and be ready to maybe shoot their knee and slash with knife once they drop, use the shotgun at close range to the head (often kills them), or just evade (there are tricks for doing that). Of course there's also "Lickers" here and there whom are blind, but have acute hearing, so you don't want to run anywhere near them unless you're near a save room door, which enemies can't enter. Then there's the daunting Tyrant, whom you have to inadvertently free from burning heli wreckage to be able to pass through an area you need to go after getting a key you need to progress. This guy is big and stomps around loudly pursuing you, and you must be clever at avoiding both him and the Lickers. This game is so good it has me thinking even my fave in the RE series, RE4, could be improved by making it more survival horror.
Metro Exodus
It has an on the fly crafting system now, which is supported by scavenging. Thus it is now to your advantage to not just do story missions but infiltrate small outposts as well, just to loot. You will find crafting resources many places, plus weapons you don't pick up can be dismantled, which will yield anything from ammo to special weapon parts you don't have yet, (scopes, etc). You can craft certain consumables in the field, like medkits etc, but ammo requires a workbench to craft. There are many work benches in the game though, and it's now an open world game, so there's lots to explore. My one nit pick is story missions are much more linear than the exploring, and also have frequent and long cutscenes. Some story missions have many pathways to explore and puzzle through. The game is getting better as I progress.
Anthem (This one is not averaging great reviews, so I may have to wait to see if it's another work in progress title like Andromeda)
FC New Dawn ( I may as well see if it's at least better than FC 5, which I had high hopes for and was let down. Will wait for bargain bin price though)
Rage 2 (Although Rage 1 was a bit disappointing to me, and Mad Max felt like the game it SHOULD have been {highly recommended}, I have hopes for this one based on what I've seen)
Gears 5 (Actually enjoyed GoW 4, even though IMO it wasn't as good as the first, so based on that, hopefully this one delivers)
Wolfenstein Youngblood (I've enjoyed all Wolfenstein titles, so I'm confident about this one)
Doom Eternal (Doom 2016 for me was surprisingly way better than I anticipated)
World War Z (Not sure about this one, might have to wait for feedback from players)
I just would rather they'd stuck with the multiple venues format, vs adding tons of ways to replay the same few missions over and over. It makes it feel more like a long demo than a game to me. It's not my idea of replay value.Originally Posted by GLASSGH0ST Go to original post
I just couldn't get on with MGSV, it was too much for me that you could hide in a magic cardboard box and the stealth was stifling in the end.
I guess the PvP isn't going to interest you, but after this week's update searchable custom rooms become available. This instantly cures the two biggest issues that I know a lot of PvE fans have. You can find like minded players who want to play without the intel overload and you can kick toxic players as you have room control.
I tried to get with MGSV but that thing with the Unknown didn't do much for me and I couldn't continue with it. Unfortunately Sniper Warrior 3 was awesome in the prologue (?) but after that it was just a mess, buggy, flaky and a PC hog, which I thought it was my rig but it was the game... I really don't know how many patches it would have taken to fix that mess but I wasn't going to wait for it. I did play CoD WWII but if you think that MWs was scripted, this one was even more and the weapons, Ugh!. I was so looking forward to FC5 if you believe that but after seeing some videos and checking the 3 weapons plust their 5 variations and the drugs things, my God, talk about taking the drug to the extreme fantasy land... and I thought FC2 was crap, this one made it look like a new born baby!
I played MSGV through more than once, including the Ground Zeroes intro to it, and liked them for the most part. My solution to the cardboard box was to just not use it, but alas, if you so much as want to farm resources, rescue, or even get through the game, you'll have everything from the Fulton, to Skulls, to a full on monster robot you have to boss battle just to finish the game. Only place I used the box was to rescue that mad deserter and bring him back home. There's a trick to it, you can get very near him in the box if you just play a tape with Paz singing an Afghan Lullaby", which puts him in a docile state then you just pop out and melee him.Originally Posted by AI BLUEFOX Go to original post
I get why the cardboard box is off putting, because that can even ruin what is otherwise completely acceptable military stealth, but what I'm saying is, if you're going to play a game like MGSV, you have to accept that much of it is over the top Sci fi. It's definitely not a game for those wanting a hardcore, realistic military shooter.
What was off putting to me about MGSV is the 2nd chapter, pretty much half the game, is merely a repeat of the 1st chapter missions with special challenges added. That wasn't enough to make it feel like a second chapter, and more like a challenge mode repeat of the 1st. Also many of the side ops were just repeat versions of those prior with more enemies added. Basically by the time you're done playing the game, you feel like you've played it twice, and are sick of the repetition. Another thing I disliked was the fast wearing suppressors. My solution to that was sneaking prone a lot.
I must say though I loved a lot of the Sci fi elements, even if strange to be added to not just a military shooter, but one that has you riding a horse. I thought it had perhaps the best prologue of any game I'd ever played. I really enjoyed the boss fights with the Skulls, Quiet, Man on Fire, Eli, and especially Sahelanthropous. There are also cool little things you can do to interact with the world many weren't aware of, like when enemies are standing in a puddle under power lines you can shoot them and they will dangle in the puddle and electrocute them.
There was basically plenty enough to keep me interested to more than offset anything I didn't like about the game.
