To ubisoft
Why is it it that you can continue to update ghost recon, for honour and rainbow six siege but yet the map editor and arcade dont? Even though its riddled with bugs and needs fixing!!! Its a bit unfair ubisoft! Dont you think!!! It would be nice for some sort of clarification as to why!!!
Farcry 5 is done. The devs dont owe us anything. They built a strong game with a good map editor. Was it everything that everyone wanted? no. Could it have had more gametypes and stronger multiplayer support? Sure. But that wasnt the point of Farcry 5. It was primarily a solo game that just happened to have a multiplayer aspect. This is why the solo map editor has more options such as AI and scripting.
I know some people are hurting, feeling as though they were cheated, but you need to look at farcry 5 as a whole. It is a huge game, and the multiplayer is only a corner of it. Yes, it would be nice to see some more support for bugs and such, but Ubisoft has their priorities and they pursued and achieved them. multiplayer is still fun to me. I wish there were more modes but sometimes I just have to accept that I need to go and play another game for that. Not everything can be perfect. Slamming ubi just makes the community more toxic
its not even 1% of it its dead and yes i agree the main game is the main part of it, but the community made it quite clear we wanted a more substantial multiplayer with longer support than just a few months. They told us it wauld be great making us think we would be getting more than just team deathmatch and death match, but they kept us in the dark untill last moment to drop the bomb shell after getting everyones hopes up, thats what made the community toxic! If we dont stand up for ourselves it will happen again with far cry 6! And i have a right to voice my opinion! Im not trying to be toxic. If they can’t take the heat they shouldn’t make a feedback forum.Originally Posted by C0MMANDERC0LS0N Go to original post
People are angry because ubisoft cut fc5 support to put resources into the pile of over priced trash that is fc new dawn. ubisoft fed the community dog muck month after month. they only gave us a lobby system because we kicked up a fuss about it. we had to drag info out of them. ubisoft are trash at community communication, UTTER TRASH at it. ubisoft should kill the map editor, if you cant put out a good fuctioning product DONT INCLUDE IT. the only thing ubi cares about is $$$$$$ and making people think they are the champions leading the sjw diversity charge. oh look everything is pink, how great is ubisoft for making pink stuff. next far cry is called far cry rainbows.
Ubisoft dont deserve to be called a AAA grade company. my advice for mappers is DONT WASTE ANY MORE TIME ON UBISOFT AND THE MAP EDITOR. they will always let the community down. they always have and always will. IT'S NOT GONNA CHANGE. they invited about 15 mappers to the studio for fc5 but ignored good advice from a few of those guys. why invite people then ignore good advice from them about the lobby system? oh that's right ubisoft always knows best. NO YOU DONT ubisoft, your map picking mp system was a complete and utter FAIL.
I don't recall Ghost Recon: Wildlands and For Honor being that popular. They continue to get supported and updated anyway. Rainbow Six Siege on the other hand is probably Ubi's most successful title to date, so it makes sense that they will continue to support that. I'd still play it if Casual mode teammates didn't TK and vote-to-kick randoms for doing the slightest thing wrong, and it seems Ubisoft hasn't done anything about that issue unless there's some news that I've missed.
It does suck to see no more support for the FC5 editor and that New Dawn is now going to be the main focus. I won't be buying it due to the lack of an editor and the odd theme, just to name some reasons. I can't get into the super bloom thing or whatever it's called where everything is over-grown, pink, white, and bright, and far more cartoony-looking than FC5 which by comparison was a visual masterpiece. I wouldn't get New Dawn even if it were free. Would be a waste of storage space.
Now perhaps this is an unpopular opinion around here, but I'll still continue to play the FC5 editor. Even with the many flaws, such as multiplayer lacking in features, I still get a lot of enjoyment out of creating maps. Despite the issues that the FC5 editor has, I think it'll still have a dedicated community playing for quite some time until FC6 and the editor for that comes out, if it's any good. There is an active community/group on PS4 where I can talk about my creations and those made by others, and I'll be there more than I am here on the nearly dead forums.

There is a thing called the consumer rights act in the uk, not sure if its the same in other country’s and one of the rules is that a product you buy should not be faulty! But yet so many things that are broken? Gamers all over the world are fed up of these practices of releasing broken games at launch its now effecting AAA game publishers like EA, Activision, Bethesda, i could go on! The game is up and eventually it will bite you back ubisoft! Its time for change!
I believe the main problem is Ubisoft's internal complexity. Ubisoft is composed of multiple companies and departments, spread over multiple cultures and countries across the world.Originally Posted by Farcryisdead Go to original post
On platforms like these forums, we're dealing with customer/support/community representatives, who basically are separate entities from the actual dev studios making the game. They can only report their findings & impressions to the devs, who themselves will also have set guidelines and parameters to abide by. All while trying to keep in line with a predetermined design document. Things may get lost in translation, or simply overlooked. Plus obviously there are commercial interests in play; if the money-making is at risk, best avoid making additional costs.
Oh, as one of the mappers involved with the Editor beta test at the studio, I felt like we were being listened to. Additionally, we were in contact with the actual project devs, so there was more room for direct communication and understanding. They know the game inside & out, and can therefore instantly pick up on issues you raise.Originally Posted by Farcryisdead Go to original post
However, you need to understand that while we were involved, this didn't mean we were a large decisive stakeholder in the project's development. This late in the product's development, we could test an Editor preview build & give some feedback (which we did, and then some), but expecting the game would get a big overhaul or additions just because some fans say so wasn't in the cards this far along in the development process. In the end, I'm really glad that a server browser still somewhat got implemented, and that we had some content drops (Scripting) at all.
Those games are designed to be Game-As-A-Service. In order for that to be sustainable, there must be a playerbase that's willing to spend additional money for additional content in-game.Why is it it that you can continue to update ghost recon, for honour and rainbow six siege but yet the map editor and arcade dont?
At this time, the Far Cry franchise hasn't made a full transition to the Games-As-A-Service model. I guess they tried the Silver Bars(FC5)/Credits(New Dawn) approach, but I don't expect they amounted to much.
I think Arcade can be really promising with some tweaks and gamemodes. And to me it looks like they had plans to put in more effort, but couldn't do that within the planned support roadmap:Spoiler: Show
Going forward, having Far Cry Arcade/Editor in a Games-As-A-Service model would require offering additional incentives for players to spend money, which would mean a pretty big experimental innovative redesign in my book. I mean, should they charge players for playing maps, map makers for using assets, or both? Should players have different classes/stats and weapons accessible through grinding/leveling up/pay2win? Maybe even model Arcade to be an actual Arcade in that you need to spend credits to play a map, or buy a continue/1-up.
Maybe we'll get it the next Far Cry around, maybe they'll keep it as-is for now. And in essence, there's nothing wrong with the current model: release a game with editor, and have the community provide additional maps all for free.
In an ideal world, I wish for the devs to ask some hard core fans straight from the start & have a brainstorm about the direction Far Cry (Arcade) should go. An open dialog would help alleviate some concerns and assumptions, but indeed this requires a change in how the business works.
Steve, I hate to say it... but you sound like damage control for Ubisoft. And LOL at charging the community to continue to use and update the editor. The only time that Ubisoft supports anything is if millions of dollars are coming through the door... I truthfully don’t think that’s going to happen for a map editor. On top of that, they could’ve included all of the assets from watchdogs and watchdogs 2, yet they didn’t. I have a theory as to why they don’t include the best assets… It’s because they know the community is going to make maps that are better than theirs. Why do you think they don’t allow the community to stitch their maps together and make an entire game out of them? It’s because they can’t make any money off of them, and don’t want to see people continue playing a game that doesnt offer a revenue stream for them.
The sad truth is, they are done supporting the editor. There are many features that are broken and the AI is the worst I’ve ever seen. The worst part of the AI is they didn’t give us any control over them. We cant set their difficulty, we cant make paths for them. Basically you give them a corridor to patrol and hope for the best. The editor is truly crippled. You have little input over much of anything other than their premade buildings and 90% of them, you cant go inside of. Have you tried making your own custom buildings? It takes forever and again, you are limited to a handful of textures to use on them. There is no snap tool, or at least one that works well. Trying to line anything up is mind numbingly ridiculous. Not to mention, you have no clue how big anything you are making is, in comparrison to anything else, because they have no decent grid ornumerical system to give you a clue. Is that road you are making big enough? Is the building you are making hig enough? Well, until you build either and put them beside one another, youll never know. You basically have to line up premade models to get any sort of size comparrison.
It sucks, because there is so much potential for greatness, especially after all of these years theyve had to better the editor. Yet, it seems with each itteration... they take a step backwards.
Stuff Quake Editor was doing in 1995:
AI scripting and character design
The ability to import your own textures
Easy animation for any object in the game(elevators, doors, spinning platforms all took seconds to make)
Linking of scripts to create story bullet points(if you do this, this happens and the enemy does this)
Single enemy scripting(not waves like FC5s editor) and linking
I even made a script that turned one of the big enemies good and he followed me and fought my enemies
it seemed like the choices were endless in that editor and it was made almost 25 years ago. Yet none of those features are a glimmer in the eye of FC5s.
It’s sad, because every time they release his editor, I buy their game specifically for it. Then I’m always let down. All I want is a game that has a great editor in it that I can make my own single player maps and not have to have a doctorate in order to do so.
