This is my second round on the beta, and there are some things that I wanted to throw out there.
First, thank you for supporting 21:9 monitors without resorting to a "pan-and-scan" format where you zoom in to fit the aspect ratio. It's nice that 21:9 really does render extra information for the sides. It's a small thing and doesn't offer any advantage, but it's still a nice addition. (Stereoscopic 3D support would look amazing, but that's obviously niche.)
On that note, I noticed that only items that are rendered by the engine are properly shown in the proper aspect ratio. Anything that would be placed on top of renders is displayed in stretch-o-vision.This is noticeable on the menus and other overlays. It would be really nice to see these returned to their normal width but properly placed on the screen instead of simply stretching the overlays/menus/etc to fit.
I only encountered one actual crash during a course load, but I allowed it to report back. Interestingly, though, EVERY time I exit the game seems to trigger a crash report, which is odd.
Finally, I have to say that even though I love Trials Fusion and Trials Evolution and own them both on consoles and PC, I doubt that I will be purchasing this game based on what I've played here. There is way, WAY too much focus on multiplayer and/or being forced to race ghosts of other players. The previous Trials games were great because you could go at your own pace and the only person you had to challenge was yourself. That's not the case in Rising. Now no matter what, I'm always racing against someone else in some fashion and it's annoying as all hell. I don't mind having multiplayer in games as long as they're optional where I can go into them whenever I want. They're not optional here. And even if it's really a single player race, being forced to race against the ghosts of complete strangers is nothing more than time-shifted multiplayer especially when you're still ranked on a first to fourth place scale.
The number of courses seems to be lacking as well, although admittedly that might be just for the beta. If additional tracks and challenges are locked behind stadium races where you have to win against others to unlock them, that will seal the "won't buy" deal. (I never bothered to finish the final race on the stadium because multiplayer/ghosts, so I don't really know what happens when you win.)
I'll keep playing until the beta ends so that I can report and bugs or glitches that I encounter (which seem to be few, fortunately); however, the forced multiplayer - even if it's simply against ghosts - is leaning heavily towards a "won't buy" at this point.
Thank you all for your feedback!
We'll pass this infromation along to the development team for further review. Couple of notes about racing against the ghosts:
In the options menu it is possible to turn their transparency down to zero, but you will still see them in the loading and results screens. Additionally, you also also pick a ghost from the leaderboards you'd like to against. This will pit you up against one ghost instead of three.
During the Open Beta you will have access to a limited number of track, the release version will have WAAAAAY more!
Thanks for that, but it's still forcing me to race against someone. The only opponents I should be forced to race are myself, the clock, and the number of wrecks like it was in previous games. Multiplayer should be allowed as an option for those who prefer that. Forcing me to race some complete stranger's ghost, even if I'm allowed to pick who, is still a forced type of multiplayer which is not what I want out of the main campaign in the game. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
I sincerely hope that if this is not available at release that it will be patched in shortly afterwards. Until then, I'm afraid that the forced multiplayer makes this a "no buy".
No, you can't do that until you finish a race, which means being forced to race other people before you can race against your own ghost, so the issue still stands. For Evolution and Fusion, all I needed to do was complete a race in x amount of time with no more than y amount of crashes, which gave it a far more leisurely pace. This new format feels way too much like that overbearing sports parent in the stands ... 'GO ON! GO! GO! LOOK AT HOW FAR THAT PERSON IS AHEAD OF YOU! COME ON! MOVE IT! GO! GO! GO!" No, thanks. Leave this as an option for those who like it. That's fine. But don't force this on everyone.
I haven't paid too much attention to it yet but from what I remember it seemed like the 3 ghosts were just leaderboard replays of people who were super close or at the predetermined medal cutoff times... Thus, giving you more of a visual on what ground needs to be made up in order to achieve the next medal for yourself.
If that is what it is, then I like it.. and think it should be an option to turn off, BUT is something that could grow on me if it was permanent.
If it is just completely random ghosts, then it should most definitely have an option to shut them out completely from pre-race/race/results screens.
Well that’s a massive relief. There’s no way I can come close to the final monster mash time of the ghost I’ve been pitted against! It still means there are tracks locked out of the beta for me thoughOriginally Posted by Ubi-MrDrPink Go to original post![]()
Just to chime in on stages being locked out, I really hope that’s not the case in the full game, because I cannot beat that final stadium race where you have to win 3 times in a row. It’s hard enough beating the individual stages, and I managed to do it with enough trial and error. But doing three back to back to back just feels impossible.
The difficulty in this game is insane. And that’s OK because it has quick re-tries, gives you something to aspire to. I love everything about this game except the stadium “Win 3 in a row”. It just seems to be an unfair challenge, and one that is locking content behind it at that.
I feel like the difficulty should be lowered or the content should not be locked behind such a high challenge. Because I want to experience all the tracks in the game.
