I bought Evo and HD around the same time. And at that point being a *gasp* casual player, Evo's physics and driving line felt like the better of the two. And to this day I still think that. The rider and bike in Evo provided more visual feedback and the tracks had less moving parts. Trying to improve user-friendliness doesn't necessarily have to alienate the elite. Each game is going to be different from the last, and all we can do is try to go as fast as we can with the tools we have.

I would like to see a comparison of inputs per second of top times in the console Trials games and see if we actually see a decline. Obviously sorted by difficulty.

And maybe Murdoch can make a beautiful technical track that makes me eat my words

I just wanted to check in and say hi to Murdoc, Jook, Willy, QC, emcee, etc. Miss you guys!

I'm on board with what you're saying, Murdoc. By no means am I as skilled as a rider as you, jook, and many of the others, but I still notice something's missing that could make this game feel amazing. As the game got more successful, they had to make a lot of things more accessible, and for some of us, it made things kind of bland.

Riders who learned on Evo or Fusion will likely find the Phoenix from HD very difficult to use, but in my mind it's still the best bike in the console entries of series. The throttle control you need to use that bike is beyond anything in the newer titles, and might not work well for a series that has the popularity that Trials now has. I feel that with the death of that bike (or an equivalent) came the underwhelming tracks we got with Evo and moreso with Fusion.

The whole "going mainstream" affects a lot of titles. It's good that Redlynx is still seeing success with the series so we do have more content, but things change, and some of us are just going to feel like the "magic" that made something great is no longer there.

Like many have said, that depends as much on the bikes as on the track objects. Is there any chance we can get an old-style bike/physics or two in the expansion content?

You guys do realize that if you put scorpion/phoenix mode in and autoconverted tracks from the 360's Evo track central, you would have an obscene gold mine of content, right? Like, content that would be worth any amount of effort on your part, for what it adds to the game. You could do nothing else for an expansion and people would still sing praise for your work. Not to mention that there is tons of HD content few have even gotten to see, since you had such a terrible sharing system then. Hoover that stuff up and deliver.

I was just playing some Evo & HD last night, for comparison to Rising, and they still just feel so good to play. I don't know why you guys have to mess with such a great formula.

Using ad hominems makes you look petty and isn't necessary when your arguments stand on their own merit.
Thanks of sticking up to the bully Qc. Embarrassments aside, I don't grasp the point of most decisions & the angles they reflect. Time will tell which way works through experience.

It's tough to get away from the this casual vs elite player mentality. The act of measuring skill and comparing it to another is a bit like comparing baroque & the blues. Each is a type of music that require an immense amount of skill in it's own right. There are casual & professional players who execute equally technical feats in completely different circumstances. Getting through the blues with a harmonica can be done by any novice guitar player but mastering it or any other type of music, utilizes it's own set of strengths that do not compare to let's say freestyle in hiphop. Another very technical skill that could not be compared to the blues or classical music. Imagine if we tried to rank music in to levels of difficulty. I think it's not so much a skill comparison as it is a taste comparison. some folks like the go real fast on flat ramps with no bumps, I know my kids love it. Hardcore riders who have seen every angle and done every move over and over year after year, track after track crave a deeper experience that solving a new obstacle delivers.

yo les, good to see your name again. I have to agree with you about the HD bike physics. Second to none. Would love to see a 4k anniversary edition with track central someday

Tyrian, there's actually a bit missing from the editor, tools, pieces, options, etc. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get my old HD tracks into a track central environment but this game was not built to receive that data.

Just in case you misunderstood, I did NOT want to say his arguments stood on their own merit, I meant if they did he wouldn't have had to use the ad hominem but it was articulated poorly, sorry about that and cheers.

I'll bet I could get it to work if I were on the inside, but then data conversion/transformation is kind of fun for me.

Something could be done. Maybe not everything without some substantial effort, but something.
