Even before the game's release, Ubisoft is starting work on a Skull & Bones TV show with a female lead (the Lady Pirate Captain from the 2017 and 2018 cinematic trailers, maybe? Who knows!)
My hot takes:
Pros: It shows a ton of confidence in the IP by Ubisoft, which suggests that they're pretty sure the game is going to knock it out of the park.
Cons: After not getting any information about the game for eight months, getting this information drop is kind of a letdown. I'm not a TV person to begin with, so it's a bit frustrating to continue crawling through the current informational desert. Instead of water, I feel like I was shown a mirage.
To clarify, this doesn't mean diverting resources from the game's development—the projects are completely separate from one another. I'm sure Ubisoft Singapore will be collaborating on the show where necessary, but the show is ultimately being handled by its own, independent team.
It's unclear whether the show will release before the game does. It's also unclear whether the show will be CGI (as the trailers have been) or live-action, but my bet is on live-action.
Commence speculation and well-reasoned reaction!
I really hope this part is true. It's been my experience that games based on movies or TV shows generally suck, and that movies or TV shows based on games also generally suck. The art forms really have very little in common and most attempts to combine them have fallen flat (IMHO). One usually winds up as little more than a marketing gimmick for the other.Originally Posted by Flawbringer Go to original post
