I have played TD for a while now (900+ hours).
I like TD2 ... but not as much as TD. The most striking and immediate difference is that TD2 graphics seem substantially inferior. There is lots of detail, but the colors - I'm not a graphic artist, but my guess is that there are primary colors that seem too rich. The world is detailed, but it feels drawn, almost like a cartoon, TD has amazingly real looking characters. The faces in TD2 are too red.
IMHO, TD's snowy, gritty NY looks much better than the TD2 world. The TD2 graphics almost look like the designers were going for a fortnite copy.
Also, the way the characters move in TD2 is somehow not quite right. For example, when running without a weapon equipped - like in a safe area, the arms swing back and forth in a very non-realistic way.
TD2 has lost significant depth relative to TD. I'll grant that the nearly infinite way weapons, skills, talents, gear and mods can be combined to balance the three basic characteristics (Firearms, stamina and electronics) can be overwhelming and complex, But if anything, I think you've gone too far in the opposite direction.
Granted, the private beta does not have everything, but I can only go on what I've seen.
I will say that the NPCs seem smarter, going for cover and attempting to flank you more aggressively than TD - like it!
Bug
In the DZ I would occasionally pick up a dropped item and it seemed like nothing would happen - no yellow bag appeared on my butt. Then I realized that the item went directly into my inventory - without being extracted.
Not all items in the dark zone are contaminated this time around.Originally Posted by BlaiseEmby Go to original post

-graphics looked about the same for me except for the character models which generally looked more detailed. Maybe your color scheme is off, no reds for me.
-the world is drawn... the colors are more vibrant, maybe that’s affecting the way you see things.
-some of the faces are ridiculous looking though, I enjoyed using the random button.
-snow is awesome I miss the cold weather. At least we have wind/rain/day/night cycles though.
-sprinting movement looks a bit wonky, did you try jogging?
-loosing significant depth is a bit harsh, wait and see.
-agreed; AI seems solid save for the constant explosive spamming at higher difficulty levels.
Great read, thanks for sharing.
