When it is dark, it is too dark. It is not much fun shooting at areas below the enemy ID tags, because you know in theory an enemy is there. It is much more interesting to be able to see the enemy, what they are geared up with and how they look. You did a pretty good job with this in D1. Not sure what is going on here. It still looks good during the day, but even enemies in shadows are maybe not visible enough.
Wanted to add, here is a good example. Look how dark it is on the pool table compared to the one next to it.
