As the title suggest, this is about what I would like to see in a GRW2.
The narrative/plot/synopsis:
Following the events of Bolivia (un thé so called good ending), El renacimiento (the new organisation of El Sueno) finds a new home: Peru. This time the organisation try to get to power in that precise country trough elections and a modification of the article 110 of the constitution. To prevent that, the USA decides to launch operation Doom of the kingdom, an OGA unit is sent in Peru to prevent the worst case scenario.
This is the plot in a nutshell.
Gameplay wise:
-Geographic
Peru is a costal country opened toward the Pacific. It would be interesting to introduce a new dimension: amphibious operation. This particular dimension will affect vehicles, gear and gameplay.
At the begining of the game you are assigned a base camp/forward operation base/support base (whatever it's called) that is your default spawning point. This base can be moved from region/province, once the previous one has been completed. The main camp is the place where HVT have to be delivered to for interrogation or arrest. It's where mission briefings takes place, where members of the fireteams are selected, mission planning is done, some equipment chosen.
Secondary safe houses exists but gives smaller advantages (non access to launcher munitions for example). Secondary safe houses are respawn points, allow assault rifle, submachine gun, light machinegun and some sniper rifles (not .50) munition resupply. Some vehicles can be found there: land (not heavy armoured or weaponised) and water (not weaponised) no air (or maybe not weaponised). They can't be weaponised, this takes place only at the main camp, but they can be customised to a certain extent (paint job, cosmetics).
-Fireteams
A fireteam is what appears to be the smallest military unit you can find. Considering the task ahead, a second fireteam should be added. Bring the total number of players to eight. This is already a mechanic that exist in the PvP version of the current game. The player could choose the number of fireteam (1-2) and the number of members. For example a full fireteam of 4 and a 2 men sniper team.
Fireteam members should have their own abilities, specialities (for example Weaver is a marksman, and should have a special ability, like high precision shots, dunno). Other specific members of the fireteam could be added, Medic, Etac, SAW, Pathfinder, technician (whatsoever).
Fireteam members should be all customisable. From cosmetic items to inventory and weapons accordingly to mission objective and nature.
The order wheel should be individualised, to allow the player to assign specific task, positions to fireteam members. Or have a wheel for the fireteam the player directly command and one concerning the second fireteam with simpler orders like the one already present in the game today. Some other orders should be added (suppress, cover, assist, dunno).
-Gear/gameplay/weaponsmith
There is a very long list of weapons and attachements that from time to time pops up on this forum. Those are pretty usefull to get an idea of player requests.
My personnal added feature would be to have the possibility to choose where you place an attachement to a platform (if I want to place peq9 on top of the rail or on the side). This is nothing new it's something that pops up quiet often on this forum.
1. Weapon/weaponsmith
One other feature I would like to see added is about magazine: standard straight magazine in 20, 30, 50 rounds, drum magazine in 50 to 70 rounds, coupled 30 rounds magazines. Those type of magazine will have an influence on the reloading time (straight 20 rounds magazines would be the fastest to replace when empty), they would also influence the stability of the platform and other parameters that I forget.
Another frequently requested feature concerns scopes for LMG's which somehow makes sens. It's a feature that exist in the present game.
Shotguns should also receive some attention. Breaching in the present version of the game is somewhat limited (no specific animation, the absence of breaching charge, specific orders in the order wheel). Shotguns for that matter have a specific role to play.
One category of weapons that I would like to see added are launchers. Launchers would be considered as second primary weapons. By launchers, I would like to see stand alone grenade launchers (ranging from a standalone M79 thumper, M320 GL to a M32 MGL), rocket launcher (ranging from M72 Law to RPG 7) and finally anti-armoured/anti-air missile launcher (seems pretty overkill, but fun). The munitions of the last two type of launchers can be found only to your main base camp. The use of launchers should replace the over powered .50 sniper rifles against vehicles, present in the game.
2. Gear and cosmetics
Cosmetics, in my very own vision, concerns colors, skins, appearance of your character in the game, which has little to no effects on the gameplay. There is a very interesting post about the separation of head, face and neck in the pages of this forum (if I recall "150+ cosmetics items that can be added", it's illustrated and very neat). I would like to quote that really nice Idea to separate head, face and neck. It will open some very interesting opportunities.
On the other hand you have gear, wich influence gameplay in my opinion. By gear I mean vest/plate carrier/suspenders and backpacks and another categorie that follows the "150+ cosmetics items that can be added" (I'm sincerely sorry I don't remember your name, this a great idea), the addition of belts/holsters.
For example, your plate carrier offer great level 3-4 ballistic protection, but the heavier it gets the less you can run. On the contratry you have decided to go for a suspender system or a chest rig which is pretty lightweigth, but a cholo shoots you in the center mass, it really hurts (IRL 1/2 you die).
Belts just add weight but allows you to carry more magazine, more grenades and some "tools".
Backpacks, a bit like belts, allows you to carry more equipment, but add weight and influence endurance/stamina. Although, backpacks allows you to carry weapon parts, like barells, 2-3 different scopes, 3-5 rail attachements, some "bigger tools" (representing a smaller, ontheway inventory/weaponsmith). The bigger the backpack, the more items you can carry and the more weight you add.
Some items should also be added. Just to name a few and that could be mission critical: wire/bolt cutters, breaching charges, smoke/coloured smoke grenades, tablets (comtac/Etac equipment), thermo scan/binoculaires, etc... Those may occupy a slot/space in your backpack, or a pouch on your chest plate/rig, belt.
Another kind of equipment that could be added, considering amphibious operations : rebreather, or scuba diving equipment. Considering this, major work and ressources should be dedicated to animation and transition between liquid to solid environnement. Maybe, like the parachute it should be a unlockable ability.
-Medic
The T3C should replace the magical Med drone. T3C stands for Tactical Combat Casualty Care. It can be divided in 2 phases. First, care under fire, reach the casualty asses the wound, eventually place a tourniquet and reach a safe position to administrate the casualty field care. Determine the nature of the wound, where it is, what has it caused etc... In terms of gameplay: once a teamates is wounded, in the order wheel, or when pointing to the wounded a special order appears and the above described procedure is executed. Maybe the wounded could use is weapon if He is reached by a teamate.
-Breaching
When the player points at a close door a special wheel appears: breach with different breaching option depending of the equipment He carries or his teamates.
-Intelligence gathering/Assets/Joint Strike Force Commander
By inteligence gathering, I mean the use of specific and dedicated tools. Like drones or satellite imagery. I have an idea inspired directly by another game: the introduction of a Joint Strike Force Commander. The JSFC will have access through his/her personnal tablet, via a downloadable app, to certain assets (mentionned here above) to assist the fireteams. It would also include drone strikes, the kind of munition used are determined by what the main character, (the Guy on the ground) has unlocked 1.mk80, 2.gbu12, 3.hellfire. The JSFC, will guide the munitions, control CIA, SATCOM, and other assets, assist in mission planning, create itineraries, create waypoints, etc... to assist the men on the ground. The idea is to have a limited cross platform game with a light sent of RTS.
If the player decides for a solo experience it can be achieved through the addition in the gear section to a portable device that mimics the previous advantages or a JSFC.
-Vehicle
In my own vision, let's get rid of the magical spawning wheneverwewant vehicle system, or maybe limit it in a reasonable way.
Vehicle should also be fitted in accordance to the mission plan/briefing (mission kit for vehicles). Should they be unlockable, maybe, why not. The idea is to introduce a vehiclesmith. My favorite example would be the UH60, or S70i which can be fitted with a wide range of kits (M2, M3, M134 door weapon, 30mm chain gun, rockets, laser guided, hellfire missile, and I probably miss a few). Cosmetic could also be added, paintskins, logos, badges wherever on the vehicle.
Let's also introduce new class of vehicle: boats, that like in the above example can be fully customised. I see essentially 3 categories of boats
1. Zodiac, no attachement points for weapons
2. Semi-rigid, 1-3 attach points
3. "Hardshell", 3-5 attach points
Secondly, boats have a limited use in the present game, due to the lack of space or weaponery. They would be more enjoyable if they could be used to infil and exfil HVT or used in a support role, in my opinion.
OTHER GAMEPLAY CONSIDERATIONS
The antagonist organisation : El Renacimiento (ER). Like the SBC, the antagonist has created an organisation similar in structure but adding a fifth operation: politics.
Security forces of the organisation include:
- El renacimiento foot "soldiers", heavies (machinegun, launcher, rpg), snipers, veteran (former spec ops/elite unit), captains (all the above).
The equipment: El renacimiento operatives have essentially access to Russian equipment, or Chinese copies. The reason is the great disponibility of such platforms all across the world and their price.
Vehicles/heavy weapons: vehicles would range from simple pick ups to light armoured/armed vehicles (technicien) equiped with Russian type heavy weapons (high caliber machine gun Dshk, anti air gun, maybe unguided rocket pods). Air vehicles would consist essentially in civilian version of vehicle ans may be lightly weaponised (light/heavy machine gun, unguided rocket pods). Concerning water vehicles, the same principles applies as for air vehicles.
Concerning ER helicopters, I would like something different than the actual all white SBC blackhawk. A civilian heli reconfigured/refitted to his dedicated role.
Standard stationary machine gun should be Russian type single barreled heavy machine gun.
ER convoys: as in the present game convoys are meant to gather ressources to unlock abilities. ER convoys are medium targets. They consist of 2-3 armoured/weaponised véhicule and 1-2 transport pick ups(5-6 personnal per vehicle), the ressource vehicle 1-2 and in some case a dedicated AA vehicle.
-Mercenaries (what's left of Los Extranjeros, Raven's rock operatives, something totally different).
Equipment: Depending on where they come from their equipment may vary, from Russian to Chinese, passing through Israeli and South African. They would be slightly better equipped than ER operatives, and have access to heavy armoured vehicles and lightly armed helicopters (machine gun, unguided rockets). I don't have a precise helicopter in mind, but I guess that some type available on the private market could be used.
As for ER, standard stationary machine gun should be Russian type single barreled heavy machine gun.
-Local military (they have access to heavy military vehicle, lav/tanks, militarised helicopters, like Mi24, which currently serves with the Peruvian armed forces).
Equipment: the Peruvian armed forces uses a wide array of personal weapons and today (in 2019) they are moving to the FNH scar L as their standard assault rifle. Other platforms are still used like a version of the AK-47 with a foldable stock (don't remember the exact designation), galil and FNH FAL.
Vehicles: Considering that it is the Peruvian armed forces, They have access to military grade weaponery and equipment like attack helicopters in the form of the mighty Mi24 Hind. Other vehicles can be encountered lav's, tanks, military trucks (with actual transport capacity), etc... Navy vehicles, considering the wide coastline, some heavy (no frigates, air carriers tankers and other big board) could be encountered. Some riverine armed patrol boat could be to.
Military convoys: this kind a convoys are to be considered hard targets, moving at least with 2-3 armoured cars, 1 troop truck ( carrying a 10men Unit) and 2-3 ressources and occassionaly air defense and maybe a support helicopter.
Peruvian military bases: At the difference of ER or mercenaries out posts and bases, certain munition be found (.50 sniper rifle rounds or some launchers munitions).
Some of the antagonist unit have access to AA portable weaponery (SAM/manpad weapons for heavies) in some specific locations.
Other military equipment like SAM batteries can only be used by military units (no manufacturer would sell that kind of hardware to a private entity).
At the moment, the antagonist organisation is not really finalised in my head and I would need to work it out. In the same way, the narrative around it is still a bit obscur. The only thing I'm sure about is that I would love to see some El renacimiento operative equipped with a grenade launchers.
I finally found the author of "the customisation150+ items". Kilerek has done a very neat thread about both gunsmith and charactersmith. Please find the links below:
