More thoughts, a few glitches and a video.

Xbox One 1 with Home Theater System connected via HDMI.

To the developers, I understand this is a beta and work in progress... but here's my thoughts. Warning: This might be long...

    1. Control of co-op interaction: It would be great if users could choose to participate or not with these requests. I get the younger crowd thrives on co-op and interactive play with others, but sometimes I just prefer to play the game and enjoy the story. Currently, in the beta, I'm inundated with requests for assistance and it's quite annoying. I can't imagine what it'll be like with full servers/released game! This wouldn't need to change the whole game, just whether or not you want to receive alerts or not. This should be changeable on the fly in "Settings."

Maybe an option to allow the user some controls over this. For instance:
      • Enable Request for Assistance from other players? (Determines if you want to receive the notifications)

      • Enable assistance from other players? (Determines if you want to be able to request assistance from other players)

    2. After you answer a "Request for Assistance" and then choose to "Leave the Group" why does it send you back to a "Respawn" point instead of just leaving you in game?

    3. Separate open world from the safe area (and from character diaglog)
When in "safe areas" the outside world shouldn't matter. When trying to sort through your stash, deal with a vendor, or listen to part of the story - users shouldn't be interrupted with "Requests for Assistance" from other players and/or warned about "Hostile area found" and so on.

    4. Sprinting: Sprinting does not feel "fast" it feels a bit sluggish.

    5. Disorientation: I'm not sure that I like the switch in controls when this occurs. I understand in real life situations people become disoriented, but switching the controls feels like it will lead to frustration and lots of unnecessary deaths, especially in PvP environments.

    6. Audio delays: Frequently I experience delays between the visual explosions (such as grenades - mine or the enemies) and the audio effects.

    7. Glitch in gameplay: After beating the first phase of Fallen Cranes, I took cover behind a barrier that was located behind the trunk mounted gun. I attempted to drop to the street level and take cover behind a highway divider. When attempting to move to the new cover, the character dropped down took a few steps towards the highway divider, then glitched back to the original positon, dropped down, took a few steps, then glitched back to the original position, then dropped down... you get the idea. I had to step away from behind cover, then drop to the street and then move to cover.

    8. Audio glitch: Earlier today I was playing and something in the audio got stuck in a loop or something. Either way, there was a repetative sound that kept playing in the background. Other sounds were still present, but this "hum/grinding/whatever" in the background continued wherever I went in the city. It took restarting the game to clear the sound. Video included.

    Update after finishing the weekend!

First, I did have a great time playing the game, although there were certainly parts of absolute frustation. I have detailed the following above:

    • Control of co-op interaction (spamming of "help me requests"): UPDATE: I do understand that there is a feature to turn this off. Please make this is "Sticky" setting so we don't have to change this EVERY TIME we restart the game!
    • Separate open world from the safe area (and from character diaglog)
    • Sprinting
    • Disorientation
    • Audio delays (More below)
    • Glitch in gameplay

After finishing out the weekend, a few final thoughts..

    1. Sound issues: There are a ton of times that the audio cuts out. Either some parts (my own gunfire, enemy gunfire, explosions) or all sound at the same time. Other times gunfire audio would get stuck looping.
    2. Grenade happy: The enemies are very grenade happy. Much more than in D1. Additionally, their grenades seem very over powered.
    3. Animal killings: I've seen others complain about the ability to kill animals. I agree that killing cats/dogs isn't really necessary. However, the ability to collect food from hunted deer might be worthwhile and realistic.
    4. Stingy enemies: It seems that the enemies do not drop items as often as I remember from D1. Admittedly, it's been a while since I played D1, but I seem to recall getting more items.
    5. Seeker Mines: I'm not thrilled with this new implementation. I really liked the ability to throw the mines like a grenade and have them identify and chase down the nearby enemies. It was also amusing to watch them try to run away. With the new method, you drop it and have to tell it where to go. Unfortunately, if you can't see the ground (like when below an enemy) you can't send the mines there.
    6. Screen brightness: There are areas in the game that are really too dark to properly navigate. If you adjust the brightness, then the lighted areas become too washed out. Really need to find a better balance between these areas. Also, having a tiled section that allows you to adjust (like "barely visible, visible, very visible") would be helpful.
    7. Screen adjustments: The menus, logos, and maps were off the edge of my screen. I'd love to see a feature allows you to adjust height/width and center of the screen. I often see games that allow height/width, but you sacrifice edge real estate that could be addressed by letting you center the whole screen as well.

    Thanks,

Agree with pretty much all of this; except...

...killing of cats/dogs. Sorry, but for authentic and immersive purposes I think it should be left in regardless to people's feelings. Plenty of real life examples (like Venezuela) that demonstrates that pets will be hunted for food if people are starving. It's sad, but it's also a grime reality of the state of affairs within the world that this game is trying to paint.

    Animals...

I'm not overly concerned about the animal thing... just a minor issue. If anything, we should argue that they provide food, since it is an apocalyptic time period. Anything editable counts, right?
