Hello,

just wondering if anyone is having problems launching Settlers 1. I've managed to get it to launch once and now it won't play at all. I've verified the files, uninstalled and reinstalled it and verified the files a second time but it just won't start anymore. Pretty bummed about it as I've just purchased it on uPlay because I really enjoyed playing the game when it first came out and was very eager to play it again.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your forum post and sorry to hear that you are having issues launching the game. Do you receive any error message? What happens when you press play?

Have you launched Uplay as an admin?

Hello and thank you for your reply.

I click on play (even as admin) and I get a black screen with a white box and then nothing, just goes back to uPlay. No error message at all.

This is quite annoying as I brought the set just for this game.

could you also please try:
- disabling all background programs that aren't absolutely necessary, to rule out potential software incompatibilities (also things like Afterburner/Rivatuner)
- check your antivirus program and firewall to make sure those aren't blocking the game
- install updates for your OS and your GPU

Don't have any software running on the background expect those that are standard for Windows. Even just did a restart and opened just The Settlers and still the same issue. GPU and OS have also been updated prior to the restart. And my firewall is allowing traffic and Nortin doesn't appear to be blocking it. It has worked once before when I first purchased it but since then, nothing.

I'm having exactly the same issue as the OP...

Purchased the game, was really look forward to playing this again for the first time in twenty years.

The game launched once but won't launch again. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, have uninstalled and reinstalled Ubiplay, nothing is blocking the game.

I did watch Task Manager and it appears the game is crashing as a Windows Error Report is being generated.

Can this game bug please be fixed asap?

I just bought the settlers history collection and the only way I could get settlers 1 to work was messing around with the compatibility settings.

For Siedler 1.exe I have it set as win 8 compatibility, disable full screen optimization, run as admin. I have Windows 10 64 v1809

Before I changed these settings, settlers 1 would only startup and I would have a black screen with the sound in the background.

I suspected that this would happen with a game this old, despite it being advertised as working on modern systems which to be fair it does but not without a little tinkering.

Anyone having any issues should try running program compatibility troubleshooter, let it run and save the settings. This way you can rule out that as being the problem.

If it continues to not run, that's an issue with the game that requires further troubleshooting.
