Beta feedback from TD1 veteran player

    Hi all,

I spent more than 2,000 hours in TD1 and I was really looking forward to TD2, however, it feels boring, and I'm trying to figure out why.

Anyway, here are the major points of what I don't like:

    1. Running animation - unrealistic, clunky, and feels like a step back compared to TD1. Just play TD1 yourself right after you close TD2 Beta and you will see what I mean. The running animation in TD1 feels and looks much better.

    2. Lighting/Shadows/Colors - I don't know if it's because of the beta but something is wrong with the lighting in this game. The contrast/brightness is almost impossible to balance, sometimes the colors look washed out, sometimes it looks like there are no shadows, it feels weird and needs to be improved in the final version.

    3. Healing - I understand what they wanted to achieve here but it shouldn't take so long to replace the armor plate. It's just annoying, especially when we cannot move while doing this (which is fine, just speed it up). I would also appreciate to just press the button to replace the armor plate, without the need to hold down the button.

    4. Characters (hair, eyes..) - what is this? I mean, it's 2019, "triple A" game, and my character looks like a zombie with ugly hair. Please go back in time and change that.

    5. Cover bug - when taking cover behind different objects, you sometimes "fall down", so that half of your body is under ground while sitting in cover.

That's all I have for now.

    It does seem boring..

i agree that the division 2 seems boring. I felt the division 1 was quite interesting. Often I would run between points instead of fast travel just for the sake of exploration. I feel not such desire here. Perhaps due to the less austere environment? It’s not cold? I also agree the running mechanic is missing something. It feels disconnected, floaty. I think it hurts the immersion. I still have hopes the division 2 will be worthwhile! But I think something with the interaction between me and the character needs to become more visceral. Camera shake maybe?

Plus the dark zone used to be stressful. That was the magic. High risk high reward.

Y, I also agree with the more clunky movement point. Plus, It makes it a bit annoying in end game to try fall back when the enemy flanks you or when the absurd kamikaze rain of drones comes your way. Since they are more annoyingly hard to kill, sometimes you just feel like just saying: "well, I guess I die..." cause you don't seem to be able to strategically go back quickly enough, neither efficiently kill the dudes in time to get a bit of a quick rest (to heal back) before another does the same. And they run/sprint and vault obstacles like rabbits...

As for the graphics and scenery, y, a lot of times it looks quite washed and the city overall doesn't look so appealing as in D1. Maybe the vegetation makes it less enjoyable and adds that visual confusion aspect of "city jungle" that some people aren't particularly fans of.

1500+ hours here primarily spent in DZ and I agree. Go run around in this and go try TD1 and it will be night and day. Movement is a step in the wrong direction. Not being able to heal while moving is going to cripple PvP and whoever has more people on their squad wins. Really disappointing.

I enjoy the new environment. I like that it is more open and bright. Div1 felt more solemn and depressing like rats in a maze, very defined boundarys, corridors etc. I like that in Div2 you have to be more aware of your surroundings, its more of an open and 3D environment. Sometimes you are taking shots from a area of bushes or trees and have to figure out who is shooting at you. I also like that sometimes battles are close up and sometimes they are long range battles in a wide open area. More variety of battle types.

Yes i have noticed the new movement has caused me to die more as its near impossible to run out of the line of fire fast enough, or escape a cluster of NPC's that run up on you. Not sure if i should complain about that or accept it as more realism.

I agree... I only started playing the division in November of 2018, which I found to be a very pleasant experience due to the beautiful color contrast and the snowy landscape itself. The gameplay was also fun especially in groups. But when I downloaded the beta version of TD2 I was kind of setting my expectations high due to the finished product of TD1 and TD2’s trailer... However, I was greatly disappointed with the graphic downgrade and the delayed movement in general... Also, I know TD isn’t known for its storylines and main mission dialogue, but I wished they had a longer prologue like the first Division where they had the helicopter explode and that. For me at least, it wasn’t as exciting. Also, the cutscene before it didn’t explain as much background as I hoped like the first one and I wished they showed more of what happened and maybe relate to the trailer more. Overall, I wished they did more with the story in the beta to grab its audience’s attention since we are given two main missions to complete.

And I totally agree with all your points especially the brightness and lighting... I would go outside and I would have to change my brightness numerous times because it was just too damn bright.. However, I can kind of live with this issue, but it’s a little annoying. What really turned me off was the landscape outside.. the colors don’t mix well and the objects like cars, buses, and even some buildings seem to be plain and undefined maybe even rushed a bit... However, when you go inside for main missions especially, it feels like The Division again where the graphics are somewhat high quality and the lighting is also much better.

I’m still debating whether I should pre order or wait and see how it turns out.

Or it will cause people to change their PVP style. Instead of running around being able to dance and power smash that heal button, you might have to utilize cover and tactics more.
PVP is a battle of skills between players. If all players have the same movement ability then they are equally advantaged or disadvantaged.

I honestly get what they were trying to do, and albeit it's a Beta release for a few days, but to me it feels like a re-skin with an attempt to add a few things here and there, but really it's nothing more than a new map and some menus that they complicated for no reason. D1 was amazing and it worked well. Why try to redesign the wheel???? I don't get it..
