Ubisoft do you think that you would make a Farcry game set...

In maybe a fantasy motif or something other then modern setting aside from primal of course. Like im kinda curious what your guys rules are as far as story that you have to adhere to i mean the firat game was basically jurrassic park and since then the games have never come near that idea again.

Well Crytek made that first game with the trigen mutants, and when Ubi bought the IP they wanted to sort of set themselves apart from that first game to make the franchise their own while remaining true to what they saw as the pillars of the franchise. I think there is room to experiment a bit within the series while staying true to those pillars, but I feel like the core of the franchise in Ubi's hands, is the modern day settings. The spin-off titles, Blood dragon, primal, now new dawn, none of these are set in present day and all are wildly different. I'm certainly fine with the spin-off entries experimenting, but I'd prefer the mainline entries remain modern day scenarios....

Primal is my favourite instalment I think. Just a shame it didn’t have dinosaurs.

    I prefer the experiments.

FC4 showed the franchise was getting a bit long in the tooth. Where could you take the franchise from there in modern day?

I would prefer more Survival elements introduced similar to what was seen in RDR2. I think it suits the franchise.

Frankly speaking I want Far Cry more realistic. A bit closer to reality or possible reality. Far Cry should be for adults. Raising topical issues it should make people think. Make Far Cry as infantile kindergarten is not good. Jurassic Parc will make Far Cry total trash! May be for children will be very funny riding dinosaurs. But for adults....?! Far Cry needs more seriousness.

    Hi there,

It's a nice idea for sure - as for whether that could be a Far Cry setting, I really don't know.
There have been no announcements on Far Cry beyond the post-apocalypse of New Dawn, and as long as that is the case, we won't know any more.

    It's a non-answer, I know, but it's all I have.

Ubisoft did a survey some years back and they asked people what kind of setting they would like to see next in a FAR CRY game....

    It included,

    1) Alaska with emphasis on survival in the wilderness.
    2) an Jurassic Park style Island with Dinosaurs
    3) Sci Fi setting on another planet.
    4) Vietnam
    5) A world where you fight against or join Vampires
    6) Western
    7) Mad Max style post apocalypse

So some of the above they squandered on the crappy DLC. Vietnam could of been interesting, as would the Zombie outbreak (if done right). But I think we have enough Zombie games.
Definitely not interested in the Sci Fi setting, neither the western. There’s so many sci-fi shooters out there, bored of that setting.

The Post apocolypse is New Dawn.

I personally would love to see FAR CRY with Dinosaurs or Vampires, or Alaskan Wilderness.

The Far Cry series I think is made for a more hardcore survival type experience. I’m not thinking ARK, because that’s just tedious but implemented slightly more intuitively like with RDR2 or Metro or even Breath of the Wild.

I thought PRIMAL was excellent when play on the SURVIVOR mode. All of FAR CRY’s signature mechanics and systems suddenly had purpose as it meaningfully fed back into the core gameplay loop. Hunting became essential to survival (as it should be!) and it was great....

I think there’s so many modern day shooters. I think it’s got a bit stale.
I think it’s hard to reinvent the FAR CRY series within that narrow context. I’d much prefer to see a different kind of setting with Dinosaurs or Vampires.

Dinosaurs make sense especially as I think the FARCRY series really is the best animated wildlife I’ve seen in a game.

I’m definitely up for a different kind of FARCRY.....

LaMoi, you think it will be hardcore immersive Far Cry full of survival among the dinosaurs.....Naive! It will be only more casual, designed to attract more teens and women. And dinosaurs will make the game only more inbearable. One thing when bears, deers and wolves run around another when dinosaurs start running! It will be overkill.

Mesozoic fauna demands mesozoic flora. Mesozoic flora demonds mesozoic air: oxygen, carbone dioxide. It's a whole biosphere of the planet. One cannot exist without the other. Separate from the whole biosphere island, as Jurassic island, is just impossible. In modern time biosphere can't exist separate mesozoic biosphere. More possible to meet dinosours on another earth-like planet, which is millions of years younger. (Or time-machine, or parallel universe - also rather doubtful.) Speaking poetically - mesozoic animals demand mesozoic sunset.

Are there really "so many modern day shooters" though that aren't played from the role of a member of the military? That is what I've always liked about FC games. Modern day, but you're not an Army Ranger or Tier 1 operator, you're just a civilian who gets thrown into a crazy situation. I challenge you to name 3 other modern day FPS where you play as anything other than member of the military. I don't think of it as a 'narrow context' I think there are tons of directions they could go within the confines of modern day setting. I would think there are just as many games out there with dinosaurs and vampires as there are non-military modern day shooters. Personally I think vampires sounds insanely lame. If a FC came out based around vampires, the series would've officially jumped the shark at that point from my perspective.

Like I said in my previous post, I am all for the experimenting, but I'd prefer it if they did it like they have been and sort of leap-frogged between experimental games and the modern day ones, so if a person prefers one or the other, they can just skip every other one but if you like them both you have twice the titles to play. I'm not getting new dawn, the more I see about it the more lame I think it looks, so I hope that they return to something I enjoy the next time out. I think coming out less than a year later was too quick anyway so I don't mind waiting to see what the next game does, I just hope they don't continue down the path New Dawn is treading.

I’m not that into modern day settings. I live in the real modern day world, and games for me are about escapism.... So I’m interested in more fantasy settings.

Modern day games, GTA, Max Payne, Watchdogs, Battlefield (the Police one).
Do you mean specifically 1st person shooters?

But I think I take your point.

But outside of a Cliffhanger type Alaskan Wilderness, survival, and the old ‘hunted becomes the Hunter’ type scenario I can’t think of many modern day settings I would be interested in.

What’s your ideas for a modern setting? You may change my mind.

But yeah I’ll happily take the ‘experiments’, and have them cater for people like yourself with the main game instalments.

With regard to Dinosaurs, Vampires. I just think there’s never been a really been decent game featuring these creatures. The best 1st person shooter featuring Dinosaurs was the last Turok game. I loved that game. The Dinosaurs were really well done. I mean it wasn’t perfect, it had problems, but it got a lot right.

    Chk it - https://youtu.be/BXAQPjcDg9k

    It was quite Far Cry.

As for New Dawn, I’m mainly interested because I’m desperate for a squad based shooter. You really don’t get many of them these days, and I really like the Guns for Hire mechanic, I thought it had potential. Trouble was FC5 was waaaay too easy (apart from those infuriating on rails sections). So New Dawn Hopefully is a little bit better balanced and more challenging. But I am somewhat sceptical of the game like yourself, I’m waiting for the reviews, if it’s rubbish I’ll probably just get Metro.
