    Tips for El Comendante?

Anyone have any tips for this?

I’m embarrassed to ask, actually, as I had done this mission twice before and I don’t recall it being a problem at all, as I recall, I went in from the backside, walked into the command building, went up to the balcony and shot him, ID’d him, then left the same way I came with little or no resistance. I must have played it glitched or something. It seemed to me like the Unidad were totally engaged with the Cartel the whole time.

Tonight, I had all kinds of problems. I started with my lone wolf on Extreme, and after half a dozen failed attempts, I turned on my AI team, and after a few more failures, I lowered the difficulty to Arcade which got it done. I then tried several different runs at higher difficulties and did it once on Advanced but could not do it on Extreme.

Extreme had the Unidad snipers detecting me while prone from 400m. I was blown away.

From what I can gather, when you enter the mission circle area, that triggers the SB Hummers to attack the Unidad. They go full throttle into the base. The problem I seemed to run into tonight is the battle between SB and Unidad was over extremely quickly and clearly in Unidad’s favor. Meaning by the time I was even inside the fence at the back of the property, the base was “Hunting” but there was no one there but me. I was usually able to take out the snipers (two per tower) but as soon as I entered the base, Any Unidad I killed stealthily instantly triggered some kind of alert and they were on me very quickly, and then as soon as you are engaged, a Unidad alert level goes into effect, and you’re toast.

I tried coming at the place from different angles, but it didn’t matter... the only remotely reasonable approach is from the back.

I was able to snipe El Comandante from outside the base a couple of times, but that instantly had the Unidad on me and had no chance to ID him.

I could not repeat my clean experience from before. Even my successful attempts tonight where messy as **** as Holt likes to remind me.

Has anyone played this #$&*ing mission lately?!

Not lately, so this might not fly either ...

Basically threw in rebel diversion to keep Unidad engaged. I stayed to the east of the base. By using rebels on a somewhat repeat basis at the entrance furthest from my team I continued sync shots. El Comandante went towards the rebels - he even crossed the road. By the time there were few Unidad remaining, and none near him, plus no rebels, he started walking back towards the base, and that's when I nailed him.

This all took place while I was grinding on Tier, so I didn't do a thing until the very last act.

So, one of those FWIW ...

I just did it a couple of weeks ago on my lonewolf in Ghost Mode extreme.

I went in with an SRS and my FiveseveN, BASE jumping from the same place as in "SIlent Spade" except that I aimed for the platform at the end of the row of hangars.

From there I sniped all the Unidad around that supply plane, then killed the snipers in towers around the airfield, then took position on the ATC building and sniped down into the main base area throughout SB's attack.

Once things had calmed down a bit I just sneaked in past what few Unidad remained and checked on El Commandante's body at the CP (SB had killed him).

I was hunted a few times, but I just displaced amid the hangars and towers until I could locate and snipe any Unidad coming after me.

Probably the most helpful thing is to take advantage of the chaos of the SB attack and help even the odds in SB's favour a bit, especially killing Unidad's tower snipers. SB will still surely lose, but as long as you don't let yourself get spotted you won't have to worry about Unidad numbers ever increasing, and eventually the base will be quiet as a tomb.

I exfilled using the supply plane, a little icing on the cake, though I figure you won't want to do that since your current character has no piloting skills in your headcanon if I recall correctly. XD

A fifty to the face will do that to you, especially in Hollywood were you'd fly halfway down the road.

Sounds like a good way to finally get those CQC kills from 300m... but you'd still have to figure out how to not take any damage. That's where the WL Nomex balaclava comes in...

That's the easy part. You only need to worry when you have to instigate a Level 4 Alert without being detected and without killing any Unidad soldiers.

This probably isn't what you're looking for, but if you clear the base before starting the mission, then fly out to Acevedo and start the mission, when you return there will be no Unidad except for El Comandante. SB will kill him quickly then either you take out SB and ID his body, or wait for them to leave and then do it.

Unfortunately, or not, this is true for a lot of missions.

As a lone wolf I've never tried this mission, but with teammates I've had success by parachuting into the airfield beside the base, clearing it out, disabling the genny, then moving up to the Air Traffic Control tower and from there using the binoculars and rebel spotting, tagging and sync shooting as many Unidad as possible. The rest will get involved with SB once you enter the camp and the combination of the Uni you took out plus SB attacking from the main entrance should give you enough freedom to turn off the power and use your drone to finish tagging everyone left alive so you can take them out at your own pace.

I've noticed that this doesn't always work so smoothly, but I don't know what causes the variation. Sometimes I'll get an insanely high number of Unidad helos who will relentlessly patrol right over the Air Traffic Control tower and will spot me despite being prone at the lower level. That's not always a bad thing because it sends a lot of Unidad troops towards me in a confined space that I can control. When that happens I kill as many base troops as I can and when I think I'm getting patrol troops I'll run and hide at other side of the airstrip until the patrols move out.

Other times I start the same way, enter the base, and when SB shows up I'm hunted and no matter what I do (get involved or stay hidden), they'll know where I am and come after me when they're done with SB or even while still fighting them. That's why I always try to take out the generator as a priority while they're still fighting SB. With the power (and the drone jammer) out, it also helps for sending rebel support where I want them (towards the entrance to keep Unidad with their backs turned to me).

Thanks. Good point about the Rebel Diversion. That is a great idea. I never had to use it before, but I could see how that would keep the Unidad engaged a lot longer. I will try that.

Thanks. I will try that approach. It seems like the long way in, but if it allows you to pretty much clear the bae without triggering a swarm of a Unidad on you, that’s perfect.

Something was off last night, it almost felt like the Unidad were cheating. They knew exactly where I was sometimes as soon as I killed anyone (even if there were no witnesses or shot heard). It was super annoying. It doesn’t seem like you experienced this. Why me?!

BTW, this character can fly small planes, just not helicopters. Side story, after one successful mission, I decided to push my luck and take the comms supply plane. I took out the SAMs around the runway, but was flying so low to avoid other nearby SAMs that I hit a telephone pole near the road. LOL. I suck.

Ah... so it seems you’ve experienced the same brutal cheating of the Unidad that I did where they are on you regardless of what you do. At least I’m not the only one. This character I’m playing has no drone but I will try the ATC tower as a vantage point and see how that goes. And Rebel Support seems like a good idea, but I hate sending those guys to the slaughter. Thank you!

It was one of the toughest missions because of what I also felt like cheating and thought it was just me. I hate to take a back seat and let the rebels or my teammates do the shooting and enjoy the game while I just watch because for that, I watch a good movie like R.E.D. and be done with it but it seems, in this mission more than others, if you want to finish it, you have to send hire guns, rebels to die and then just waltz in to id the dude.

Some other times, knowing full well I will die I try different approaches that let me get some shots out.
