While I like the changes to Shugoki, especially the faster Demon's Embrace, I think, as others have said, that he's terrible against good players. What I think would be a good mixup if his was allowed to feint the Demon's Embrace so he can catch the dodge or parry the dodge attack because Demon's Embrace, like Warden's Shoulder Bash, forces the opponent to guess whether or not they will go for the Demon's Embrace, which is very punishable on whiff, or feint it and guard break. This would not be OP, but necessary for him to open up turtlers. What do you think Shugoki mains? Agree? Disagree?
Yes, the heavy into Demon's Embrace is reactable because you don't have to parry. But the parry window of the unblockable is right after the feint timing into Demon's Embrace which makes it pretty difficult to react to.Originally Posted by Illyrian_King Go to original post
Love his rework after maining him for a few days, simple but effective and unique mixup games. He needs a few more things tho.
First give him a high tracking or undodgeable forward dash top light or heavy. People can hard troll his limited range right now and its stupid how easy he is to run away from. (Even if the move ends up slow enought to be parry bait i just want something to punshi those who turn their back on me and literally just walk away)
Second headbutt is 100% useless. No benefit for the risk at all. Something needs to follow it up or it should just be guaranteed after a light since it cant be followed up in any way and has no dmg values.
Third recovery on whiffed demons embrace is a bit long. I understand it should be punishing but ive seen a guy dodge, acrivate a feat, and then still gb me before my guard was back active Its stupid long. Its still a great move but the whiff recover is just obscene right now.
I personally feel that if you double dodge backwards as the shugoki starts up his demon embrace it shouldn’t catch you. The range on the demonembrace is insane plus I’ve relized you can delay it to turn when someone dodges in order to catch them with in all honesty is unfair. Also, shugoki’s headbutt come out really fast and seems undodgeable it should be slowed down to the same speed as the centurions tap punch. Let me clarify tap punch not hold down punch that send you to the ground. Needed to explain because some players don’t know the difference.
On second thought, maybe allow the headbutt to be feinted and, as Illyrian King suggested, extend the stun on it. Allowing the Demon's Embrace to be feinted might be too good (although I still think doing so would benefit Shugoki greatly in 1v1s). The problem with his current state is that if your opponent dodges the headbutt on reaction, and doesn't flinch at any of the feints, his offense is negated. While he's definitely a trading machine, he's still another character meant to counter attack and, as a result, has trouble opening up defensive players who are waiting to do the same thing.
Don’t get me wrong but when someone embraces you they can almost be guaranteed a free guard break.I feel like this is way too powerful.Some May say that the rework is good but I miss when if you didn’t land a brace it would impact.Those Years had skill now mostly everyone plays him like an Orochi with spams.

Pls no bc this DB is way too track able bc every time I dodge I still get picked up and Goki gets all his stam back
Utterly terrible rework - took a move that already polarized the community and made it a spammable & integral part of his kit.
As a rep 28 Shugo I really enjoyed his unique flavour, now hes just some unblockable spamming, hyperarmoured highlander/shaman baby... I've won every game i've played with him, in a boring, spammy way.
Before there was skill in learning the other characters moves to learn what you could absorb with your passive to trade.Now its just hold heavy, then pick one of three things... hard-feint into GB, soft-feint into hug or let it swing - after you swing rinse and repeat.
Biggest issue is he just needs one hug to work OR a GB anywhere near a wall to guarantee one & he gets his stamina back, making the spam next level.
To beat him you spam bash & gb at him, and roll away the moment he starts a heavy - boring
In summary:
-Boring to play
-Boring to vs if you intend to not get hugged to death
