I came across this video being a fan of Classic WoW, and figured since I am also a big fan of The Division, I will link it with hope that the development team would take some of what this guys says to heart. I am not trying to promote another game, but to inform the development team of why so many games are failing in the eyes of your consumers.

World of Warcraft is Garbage - An Essay
I played The Division from the beginning and I even convinced a lot of my friends to get it, but since the game had soooo many hackers in the dark zone like a lot of people I left. I came back for the release of each patch and really enjoyed them, especially the survival and underground patches. The reason I left the division in the final patches was because the game became a RNG fest. I think what WoW Classic has going for itself, and what i hope the division 2 can bring back, is the ability to have desire for certain gear. I dont want to be able to kill a random lvl 30 mob out in the world and get the best gun in the game. I want it to be locked behind some of the hardest content in the game. I want to look at someone and say " man that guy must be good, because he has XX gun ... I wanna get that gun", not say " he must have RNG on his side from killing all the red mobs in the world over and over again".
I like running incursions, but if I can get the same loot killing a lvl 30 mob what is the point in having harder lvl incursions? I like getting loot, but I hate being handed loot. I personally hate current WoW because they hand out gear for doing the most mundane tasks like picking herbs or killing 5 pigs. I dont want gear to be easy to get, I want it to be challenging to get so I have a sense of accomplishment. Make exotic gear really good, but lock it out to some of the hardest content. Make gear sets good, but to complete a full set you need to do all the incursions to get certain pieces of it. Allow for the ability to make other characters without having access to shared storage spaces. The one thing I hate is if i wanted to make a fresh character and have the feeling of a fresh start I have to delete everything in my inventory and spend all my credits (pain in the butt by the way). I would rather have each character separate from each other to bread desire to get that gear i got on my other character.
The dark zone can also breed desire, and that isnt by making it "Normalized PvP". I dont like pvp in WoW, but i did a lot of it in vanilla and none of it in Legion/BFA because they made it normalized. If i grind the best gear in the game, want to be able to own people that didnt spend the time to get the gear I have or the gun I have. The reason for having a "gear score" is for separating good geared people from badly geared people, so why normalize pvp?
Two Dark Zones will be normalized PvP. The other will be Occupied DZ, meaning no balance, no mercy. Everything you want will take place there. Since all DZs rotate between states of occupation/non-occupation, it will vary between. Over time, because every player will not have to deal with the cancer that was TD1 PVP, they can get practice and experience doing PvP in the normalized DZs. Then, as they get experience and get used to it and build up gear, they will get the confidence to go into the occupied zone.
Boom. Now you have what was tons of PVErs confidently doing PvP as well, unlike TD1.
I get where they are coming from with PvP, and I hope it is actually enjoyable compared to the chicken dance that is TD1.
This post is primarily for the PVEr's like myself, so that they dont dumb down the content of the game for the casual player. You only have an hour to play... thats fine go kill a few mobs and get yellow gear.... just dont expect to get an exotic for your little time investment. You have an hour to play... thats fine too, go pvp or do one of the quick instances. Most things in TD1 didnt take much time to do and if the game is popular (like i hope it is) finding groups should be quick and easy, allowing for easy content to be done by casual players, and leaving the harder content (more time needed to do i right) for the more dedicated players.
...This is odd. I opened this thread expecting flame and perhaps bait, but instead, not only are we pretty much in agreement, but you even pointed out a long-standing gripe I had regarding the time-vs-effort some players are able to give while others cannot (for various reasons) in previous threads, and why the game should allow for those who can only play for, say, two hours a day to get as much as they can/enjoy out of it whereas those who invest 2-5+ hours a day or more can also get as much as they can/enjoy out of it.Originally Posted by FU-Maan Go to original post
I'm itching to pre-order to be honest, but I'm waiting for the private beta. I have high hopes that the Devs did it right this time.
In the beginning, loot was scarce. It actually felt good when you finally got lucky with a drop.
Then people cried.
Oh how they cried. They bellowed! They brought the roof down.
Massive listened.
Loot began raining down. Drops are plentiful!
People are crying........
..........
Lol
Is there a happy medium to be had?
I’ll be very surprised if there is when it comes to this particular community.
Define dedicated - I have 2500 hours investing in TD1 90% of that is running solo PvE content. Survival, solo against groups. Solo in legendary missions etc.Originally Posted by FU-Maan Go to original post
Sounds to me more like you want the loot structure of the game to reward your personal play preference choices at a premium. Why do you care if some else gets the same reward as you for doing what they enjoy?
I am not trying to hold gear back from people. If gear sets where gated behind instances, allow them to get lower gear score sets from easier instances, but allow for more time invested people the opportunity to get better gear.
The people who cried about gear obviously are coined the "filthy casual" as they dont like having to put any effort into getting their gear. Like a lot of people have said in the past, if you dont have the time to play go find another game that allows for your allotted time. Too many games are made for the casual gamer, and it wrecks the actual content for the real gamer.
That seems really hostile to parts of the TD community. In one sentence you're writing that you're not trying to hold gear back and in the next you describe holding back the best gear.Originally Posted by FU-Maan Go to original post
In the next paragraph you're insulting players based on the amount they play. Your solution is that people who don't like it can leave.
I do have lots of time to play. I put a bunch of effort in as well. Why do you care if some else gets the same reward as you for doing what they enjoy? I posted about various loot equity options frequently during the life of TD1.

so you like play by yourself, that is fine... there are lots of 3rd person single player games for you to play. Not trying to be rude, but there are lots out there and you can get that easy loot for yourself. With an MMO shooter, in my experience, i hold gear that is harder to get with more prestige. I know i keep referring to WoW Classic, but it is a good reference point for me. What if the "Hand of Ragnaros" was given to everyone that played or for killing a regular mob out in the world???/... would it seem like you put in the time to get it.... or felt like you earned it? (for those who dont know what the Hand of Ragnaros is its a legendary item in WoW, probably the best 2hand weapon in the game and probably very hard to get vs time investment).
It might sound like i am making the loot structure for myself, but you said yourself, that you soloed the hardest content of TD1. In my mind that is very sad for an MMO. Something that should be hard for 4 people is made simple enough for you to solo it. doesnt that seem wrong to you? You wanna do that instance by yourself thats fine.... here is EASY mode for you and you want a challenge.... then put it up to hard mode (which should require 4 people) and try and solo that, but leave the hardest parts of the game hard.... and reward the people for doing it.
If you havent watched that video i link, i would recommend it. I am not trying to take away from your experience, but i am not trying to make my experience worse by making a game easy to play and handing out gear like it is candy with no meaningfulness behind it.
I sometimes wonder if I am one of the few people in the world who liked The Division because of the "premise" and "theme", rather than purely the gameplay and style.
I played Destiny 2 for a few hours before I got bored, because it just didn't draw me in. Even being a Tom Clancy techno-thriller fan, The Division's atmosphere appeals regardless of whether the loot I found has a gold plated grip or fires sugar dipped rounds.
