An idea: Taking care of "almost FTP" grinders with high value cash packs
I get that you have to feed the whales - freemium doesn't work if you don't. And I also get that someone will pay $200 of real money to level up their legendary. I've spent a total of $20 on the game, and currently use almost all my in-game cash for opening lockers. So, a question would be - how can Redlynx make it a little more fair for low spenders like me without just making a bad business decision?
My solution: Low-cost thematic packs that aren't available very often and that cost real money.
For example, I'm not going to pay 600 in-game cash for a chance at one Swordsman Garrison. That's $6 and I'm not interested. But ... I might pay $1.99 for a pack with a guaranteed Swordsman Garrison and some materials (I think that Terrance and Philip had such a pack and I bought it). Offer it as a one-time deal for each new card. Every season, offer a $3.99 pack that punches above it's weight in each theme. Only one. After that, you have to pay regular price. What's the idea? Finding something that the "FTP" players like me would pay for without making the whales not have to spend as much.
Maybe it doesn't work - maybe your whales spend less because of it. I'm not an expert on the freemium economy. But at some point in a pay-to-win game, the company needs to show love to their low rent players or risk losing their player base, and this seems like a good idea. I'd spend a little money on this game if I got value, but I'm just not down with the $4 per epic, $20 per legendary price that's out there currently, and the money-only packs that are coming out just feel a little too high-priced. In my opinion money-only packs should be to get people like me who spend their cash frugally to put in $5 or so a month, kind of like a mini WOW subscription. The way to get us to buy them is to make them very good value compared to packs or cards that you buy with in-game cash.
