Special Operation 3: a look at the past and future updates: My complains

I appreciate that some kind of effort has been put into this game, I mean is something that Ubisoft has done with almost all of their games, however, I can’t defend how low effort SO3 and how much lack of communication is in comparison with their other games.

I don’t get why there isn’t as much love for Wildlands as there is with those games. You can’t tell me other games aren’t comparable I mean, R6 Siege and The Division (which are to games that belong with the Tom Clancy brand) started weak and have been getting significant updates for both their PVE and PVP modes. R6 Siege charges 30 dollars per season pass each year of support, same with Wildlands and yet, I’m not saying comparable support? The Division doesn’t require you to pay for anything and still has more support than this game I mean, why? Blogs and livestreams are done every now and then to talk about what’s coming and yet with Wildlands that doesn’t happen much.
There’s been discussion about this before, so let me jump to my complain with the latest update SO3 and a look back to S01 and S02

This is going to be mostly PVE related as I do not enjoy PVP much because is a R6 Siege wannabe.

S01 had things I liked, for the most part that’s because I’m a Splinter Cell fan, but still not everything is perfect.

-The legendary return of Sam Fisher, a character who we haven’t seen in a long time and yet, his mission can be completed around 30 minutes max.
-Your teammates ignore everything you said as they didn’t bother to add some dialogue to them.
-They still do not bother to fix AI teammates for stealth sections so instead they keep your teammates outside the base so they don’t ruin the first stealth part. Why fixing stuff, if you can make everything less immersive right?
-Karambit animations are lock behind a pay wall and I wouldn’t mind but they didn’t bother to add FG knife and a menu to maybe change the type of knife you want and depending on which knife you choose, you have different animations but NO.

    What about the good?
-Mission is still fun, that may be because I’m a long Splinter Cell fan
-I appreciate the addition of AI customization.
-Even though I have problems with cosmetics and the way they add them, SC cosmetics are good, that might be because I’m a Splinter Cell fan.

    Very lacking playable PVE content.

    S02

I was expecting a lot more for this update and yet, it is another low effort one.
-Yes, they added more than one mission this time about operators from a game that has close to cero storyline, just with the exception of the intro cutscene and one mission titled Article 5.
-Same problem as before, teammates ignore what Nomad says because there is no dialogue for them.
-Mission is about an operator you can’t care about because they come from a game that doesn’t have any storytelling.
-Ghost Mode could’ve been a new game plus with new difficulty options, you know, just like other games have done? Besides what we have right now, they could’ve easily added something like, no auto ammo pickup, no regen health, no revives and enemy tags disappear after a certain period of time with the addition to block skills you don’t want to have, this also would go for Fallen Ghosts and Narco Road, options that would get you playing the game and the DLC in a new way and without having to grind the whole thing again.
-Sadly Ghost Mode is only limited to the main game and you have to started from cero, which means, you have to grind your way to the top again.
-Instead of adding the missing animations and changing character models, we have EMOTES!! Yeah….right.

    The good?
-Same as above, the missions are fun and is good to know some sort of storyline from Siege characters, I hope that with this R6 Siege adds some storyline mission following Article 5
-The expansion of AI customization to change genders is also good.

    S03

Oh, this one is really the top of my list. With the problems S02 had, this update got delay in order to release an Operation Health update, which is fine with me BUT they didn’t add anything significant unlike previous updates. Yes, maybe those things they added before like Ghost Mode, weren’t all that well executed additions but hey, it was an attempt right? Here, they didn’t bother with anything but while it’s short on content, the mission was done right, even if it has some problems with certain character backgrounds (Scott Mitchell).

    What’s bad then?
Well everything besides the mission lol, which comes to cosmetics and lack of improvements.
-The Silent Spade pack could’ve included amazing stuff from Ghost Recon, like the Kozak Ghost mask, among other stuff.
-Loot crates, I sometimes do not have problems with this stuff, I get it, it is a way to make money BUT there is no benefit for me as a player to support this game when there isn’t much improvement. If I pay to support this game, I should see improvements, like real improvements and I’m not seeing that.
-Besides Photo Mode, there is nothing to improve the PVE experience.
-The year 2 pass pack is also lazy.
-The marketing teammate outfits are a no go now, again a show of laziness, how they can’t do a couple of outfits, is beyond me.

    The good?
Operation Silent Spade, is the best mission yet, your teammates are now part of the mission and have some dialogue, the mission has good story background for GRFS, I mean it is cool but a one hour mission is not enough to cover the bad.

If I didn’t mention other things like turn off AI or animations to NVG, is because I do not care about that stuff and I can’t give my opinion about them, other than saying that stuff doesn’t improve anything for me.

    The problems:

Emotes: With the amount of money wasted on animations for emotes, why can’t you add the ones that are missing in this game that really matter? There is no drone retrieval animation, like the one GRFS has, there is no prone rolling, I mean why? Why not to add stuff that can actually make the game play better, same with character models, why does my Ghost pop out of nowhere the drone? Why does GRFS a 2012 game have better animations and character models than Wildlands?

Why instead of adding voice lines and more cosmetics items like weapons, vests and whatever other stuff, you the devs, do not work on offering real game modes, that previous titles had? And yes is not all of the devs fault but also the community, people asking for more cosmetics that do not offer any replayability to the game.

I agree that we need smoke grenades and something to stealthy pass fences but vests, weapons and whatever stuff? How is going to make the game better? We as community have to realize what a priority is and what is just a tantrum, without offending anyone of course. Stop posting stuff like “no suppression mechanic for pve” because we should be looking at ways to improve ideas that we not may like. It could be an option, it doesn’t need to be force upon anyone. We all want the best for our kid, we all need to realize the bad, instead of defending it like it is something good.

I wouldn’t be complaining about new cosmetics, emotes, voices lines and whatever if the game got improvements but almost everything to date has been lazy.

I still hope to see this game really improve, it may be a mistake to think that way but I’m hoping better stuff for S04 and that the end of year 2, is a beginning of a new year 3 of support.

If the devs and us as a community want to, we can make this game better, because Wildlands with all the flaws it has, it can be better.

Thanks very much for your feedback! I like the approach of taking a detailed look at what happened each Season, and where each succeeded and where they fell short in your opinion.

I think the bulk of these points line up with what we're reporting to the team.

well the people who make the cosmetics are different than the people who make actual gameplay changes

you can't tell someone who models cosmetics like pants or vests to make functioning smoke grenades or the ability to wire cu fences or to code in new game plus so complaining that people are asking for cosmetics is silly

It's why I don't post on the ghost recon reddit too toxic dear god someone likes a certain vest and would like to see it added to the game and they can express that without being called names and insulted and have to hear about how the modellers should magically become a different kind programmer and add in what they wan't cause what they want is some how better

I'm not disagreeing with the lack of any real substance to pve added with the special operations but calling ot community members for requesting what they wan't doesn't solve the problem

This a very fair assessment in my opinion.

In my opinion, the best DLC for this game was the Peruvian Connection and then the Unidad Conspiracy because they integrated into the main campaign very well. The cross-over DLCs didn’t really integrate into the campaign. They just utilized the map. They provided something to do but didn’t really fit the game that well. It was hard to take them seriously.

Fallen Ghosts was a fabulous add-on but the fact that you have to start a new character really impacts its appeal.

Narco Road was bizarre and didn’t fit with Ghost Recon very well at all.

I am sincerely hoping that SO4 is nothing fancy but extremely substantial in terms of improving the gameplay experience. There are a myriad of cosmetic bugs with the weapons and attachments and the most glaring gameplay issue I feel is that of the Squad AI. I am really hoping that - if SO4 really is planned - then the Ghost team themselves should be the priority.

ROE Toggle to fix the team assaulting when giving the fire command is IMO the one change that would really improve the game for me. Apart from a few other quality of life changes.

    gameplay > cosmetics

I'm not expecting SO4 to change much of anything. That content has been set in stone aeons ago.

My hopes are in the next titles.

Thank you for taking the time of reading it. I hope you get this to the team, one more time.

If that was true, why we don’t have equal amount of content for both cosmetics and gameplay related stuff? Even if they have separate teams of devs who do one or the other, it is still money and time creating cosmetics.

I never said nothing bad to people who ask for them, is fine, everyone can say what they want, I even ask for more Ghost Recon related cosmetics.

My complain is that people give more importance to cosmetics rather to actual gameplay, I mean what good does it make to have new weapons if I already completed the game 4 or more times? I’m tired of playing the same way, give me a new way to play the main game and their dlc’s, give me new pve modes like the ones every other Ghost Recon game have, that way I can use the new cosmetics. If all of us learned to prioritize over what we want vs what we need, then all can become perfectly balanced.

I actually like better the idea of DLC’s being on a separate save file, it’s been done before and I like it. If I want to play Fallen Ghost’s without playing the main game I can, something not possible if It was mix with the main game and it makes sense as Fallen Ghosts for example takes place after the events of Wildlands. Narco Road is just a non-canon alternative storyline so it makes sense that those dlc’s are not complemented with the main game.

The issue for me starts when you need to create another character and by consequence, those dlc’s provide you a fix character with certain number of skills active by default and to date, they do not offer any options to block skills you don’t want. For me it’s annoying because I didn’t use most of the skills in the main game, just to give you an example I didn’t unlock any of the physical skills and yet on Fallen Ghosts my character has everything unlock and I can’t do anything about it.

If when we started for the first time or just a new Fallen Ghosts/Narco Road dlc save file , they could’ve added an option to use the same character from the main game and take into consideration what perks my character does or doesn’t have. Look at it as an “import character from main game to dlc” (similar to how new game plus modes work) with of course offering the option to create a new character instead.

That way my perks are the way I like them to be.

I agree with your assesments, LoneSpymaster; and I'd like to put extra emphasis on fixing the animations, although I'm not expecting anything to be done to do so.
Character animations in Wildlands are marginally better than PUBG and that's when they're not outright atrocious or missing. Prone/urban prone to crouch/standing are a disgrace, and they would be so in any kind of game let alone a 3rd person one. Not mentioning the tactical aspect, like you mentioned GRFS were leaps and bounds better, I'd say they were weightier and much more authentic, who would've said that hiring SF guys to do the mocap in a military shooter does make a difference.
I'd also plead to refine the "realistic reloads" mechanic; it's like these people never heard about "tactical reloads".
Nobody throws away perfectly fine ammo that could save your life, many tactical shooters have implemented this mechanic in the past (old R6 games and SOCOM), you had to shuffle through half spent magazines but at least you kept the ammo. The problem here is how GRW deals with ammo itself, instead of number of magazines, it's total of individual bullets, so again, I'm not expecting anything to change for GRW in this matter.
