No need to apologize. We all know that some people have it easy speaking to others, whereas some don't. Some can speak like crazy in smaller groups, but not in larger ones. Some in larger groups, but not in small. Some not at all. And some can talk up a storm through forums, yet not in person. No harm. No judgement. No worries.Originally Posted by GiveMeTactical Go to original post
Even then, at the very least, someone who isn't comfortable talking, can still say commands and/or responses .. "going left", "copy that", "what now?" "where do you want me?", "what class should I take?" and so on. That way, the other people at least know you're a live body participating and communicating, even if it's at the littlest amount possible. Some would say icons or text could replace that, but from those few hours I played, I'd say who has time to watch for that or stop to type?
And also, no one is expected to have long discussions and conversations. If all you want is to say what's needed to play the game, that is totally fine. Keeping it simple works great too.
In the end, it's up to you. No one should do anything they're not comfortable with at the moment, or ever, especially if it's going to have an adverse affect on them. But if it's something where you're not comfortable, but you know you just need a little time to feel things or people or the situation out, then do it, knowing you'll get over that hump eventually. Most people understand and would be supportive. Those that aren't are most likely the dicks who have often been the subject of this thread anyway.
By the way, this all applies to those non-native English speakers too. If you worry that you won't be understood, don't worry. Look at it as another chance to improve. Even me no speaky da gud inklish two!![]()
It would be good if you can. No pressure to speak, that is entirely up to each player. The aim is to try something in a way that is enjoyable for everyone so no pressure to say anything or even have a mic.Originally Posted by GiveMeTactical Go to original post
Well, I purchased a Sennheiser PC373D a few months ago because it was heavily discounted and because my son bamboozled me into because they were a lot better than the regular headsets I normally use but truth be told, I don't find them better, if anything more intrusive on my ears because they cover the whole ear and not just the outside. I am hoping I will get used to them soon enough.
And No, speaking, even with my accent does not bother me, I have been doing it for half my life, it is more a matter of understanding the military lingo but it doesn't roll of my tongue easily because I don't use it at all, but again, once my life gets back to normal I will give it a try, no worries but I do appreciate you guys for the invite.

Not to worry GMT, military jargon/lingo isn't an issue. You'd have hook up with one of those groups which advertise that they are playing as if they were military to have that be of concern.
Even Blue was telling me in one run "over by that stack of tires" - and we both reacted to that phrase with a chuckle.![]()
I reserve the tactical chatter for coop PvE. XDOriginally Posted by MikeWeeks Go to original post
Which does make sense, especially given the nature of GW's design.Originally Posted by non-exist-ent Go to original post
Ya, I agree. As long as you're communicating, it won't really matter if you say "Ok" or "Copy that" or "Heard" or "Si senor! I heard you and acknowledge you and will do it no problem. I appreciate that you shared that information. You can count on me! Really, you can!"Originally Posted by MikeWeeks Go to original post
As an example, if you watch the co-op series by Force In Special Tactics (FIST), they do a bit of a mil-sim style and use some lingo, but overall, they're just talking to each other like anyone does, really. They're communicating. They are serious, yet they joke around and laugh from time to time too. The main thing I see is that they're enjoying their time with each other, serious or not. I like how they do things, because even watching them, you feel comfortable, not stressed.
I've read that there are some people who are completely against not using the jargon throughout, and some who actually freak out on people for not using the jargon. When I read those things in the past, I imagined that it might put off some people and make them stay away, thinking that military jargon is prerequisite, which it's not. Those types are the exceptions. There are serious groups and serious people that want to do it completely mil-sim, which I think is great, but for the regular players, like I said, as long as you are communicating, that's all that's important.
Yeah, I tend to play coop PvE the way the FIST team do using similar tactical language. They're a lot of fun to watch, though they break my immersion sometimes by, for instance, switching their weapon loadouts in the middle of a mission. XDOriginally Posted by Mongol_Horde Go to original post
