It's definitely a game that can challenge players to keep a positive mentality. I can sympathize with OP to some degree. But it really does just come down to getting reps and sticking with it, and looking at each match as a learning experience.
I'd recommend dipping into the campaign as a more relaxed introduction to the game's concepts. Playing with friends will also take some of the pressure off. We have Looking For Group subforums here: https://forums.ubi.com/forumdisplay....ing-for-Groups .
I also found 1v1ing a more experienced friend (willing to offer advice and not just dunk on me) was cool.
What I've been doing to at least make myself better at blocking light spam is this:
I set an Orochi bot to use his 3 light chain and I turn the cool down off, so that it's just an endless stream of light attacks.
I'm at the point where I can deflect or parry Orochi's first neutral light on reaction, but the second light in the chain is just not reactable.
I tried to give myself a challenge to see if I can simply deflect all three of the attacks in the chain. I was using Shaolin. I didn't initiate the punish after the deflect, so after a deflect you can recover right away and dodge again. I was doing this, and it was fun to pull off all three deflects and then punish the third light with Shaolin's unblockable heavy that comes with a deflect. I can always get the first light, but the second light is almost always too fast that I must guess. The third is able to be deflected.
I believe Freeze made a video on Orochi's frame checks, and I believe the timing for Orochi's lights are 400ms-366ms-400ms. That is why the second attack in Orochi's chain is unreactable.
With lag comp you're probably getting something like 388ms-330ms-365ms.
I believe the average reaction speed of a person who plays FH ranges anywhere from 215ms to 388ms, which is enough to be able to react to Orochi light spam.
I did a simple reaction test and mine averages around 318ms to 386ms, but with all the other visual stimulus and distractions it can be hard to stay 100% focused, and just a blink of a distraction can be enough to change this reaction time by 50ms to 120+ms.
When I was focused on the test I could average between 318ms and 388ms. When I got distracted, I was at least 20 to 30ms slower.
Being consistent with blocking such fast attacks in this game is difficult. It becomes doubly so when your opponent starts delaying the light attacks.
My point is you're not going to get 345ms on a reaction test every time. And Orochi's lights are basically just a test that we're all inconsistent in.
I don't even think PC players can properly react to the second light in the chain. I notice a lot that, if a player is OOS and an Orochi is spamming lights, the second light almost always hits, and the first and third are always blocked, assuming the players are good and experienced.
The timings are the same for both PC and console, but PC is simply smoother, and console has very tiny frame gaps in animations compared to PC, making it seem faster compared to PC.
I'll double check Orochi's light attack frames. If the second light happens to be below mine or most people's average reaction times, then that'll further aid this argument.
The fastest Light in the Roch chain is 400ms (a bit faster with lag input yes) and this is his 2nd one.Originally Posted by MCBooma16 Go to original post
The 1st and the 3rd one are 500ms.
I would add than reacting to some mooves in the Arena and in pvp are two very separate things as a bot would just land his lights and that's all while a player can mix his timing, delayed some and mix the chain with heavies or GB which could catch you off guard if always going for a deflect.
On console, i would say i can manage when i am at my best réaction time To block the first one frequently, almost never block the second one but almost always block or sometimes parry the third one.
On PC, i parry the first one arround 75% of times, block the 2nd one half of time and very often parry the last one or at least block it most of time.
There is a huge différence between both .

I'm at that point now on console where, if in a 1v1, I can be confident I can block the first light. If I miss it, then I can be sure I can parry or block the third. The second is just too fast, even after hours and hours of practice.
I'll have to disagree. This game is only fun at a casual level. If you actually ever get anywhere with the game and become decently skilled at it you'll notice the game moves in a very linear fashion. Meaning the higher you go the less that is viable. I'm not even a high tier player myself. I practically straddle the line between decent players and good players. And even here a lot of moves have already fallen off the viable pile.
Go to the near peak and you see nothing but things like wonky animation abuse from conqs abusing flickering, warlords using nothing but crashing charge mix ups, and shinobi's always staying out of reach except to slide tackle you to get the damage lead and then running away forever. Sure it might be annoying to die to generic orochi guy #342 who throws constant lights. But at least people can attack.
This is probably why I stopped tryharding a while ago.Originally Posted by Knight_Raime Go to original post
It just skyrocketed my stress levels, I didn't enjoy playing the game, I played to get better.
Ranked is also a reason I stopped caring about my K/D, played it for a day with Nuxia, got so pissed off at the cheese I was encountered with and decided to stop caring at all and I've been having a lot more fun lately.
Not sure where I'd find myself on the 'git gud to god' list.
As a rep 3 or 4 Nuxia at the time i got placed in Diamand III, next day got promoted to Master (????) and then demoted to Diamond V where I'm still at today.
I will never ever touch ranked again unless they make the rewards worth it, I only played it to get the Yellow/red color palette for attackers and have been using it ever since I got it.
Nearly everyone I encountered tried something cheesy.
My first opponent was a Tiandi with an insanely high ping that kept doing dodge light attacks, managed to win.
After that I faced a Warden that really liked his shoulderbash, lost the first match, later got matched with him again but then I won.
Thereafter a Conq ... yeah, I lost, hard.
Then a light spamming Orochi, I won.
And so on and so forth.
Never thought I'd say this but one of the few opponents I liked facing was a Shaolin.
Everyone just spams in ranked whether succesful or not and that's why I'm completely done trying to play competitively.
Same as you. I've managed To get Diamond 2 but since didn't play ranked.Originally Posted by rottmeister Go to original post
Absolutly no pleasure.
A week ago i've decided To give another shot and does 5 ranked match.
2 Roch mixing between spam and turtle but i've managed To beat them both.
1 Pk, kind of fun because he was fighting at least. I've won.
1 conq... for my own sake i took him A round but at then end i lost 1-3 .. couldnt even count how many SB he used in this match ... awfull.
1 Raider with a parry cheating bot . I leave :/
Im sure of this because the Guy was playing in a very weird way like trying his side heavy on a GB or others beginners mistakes like that but in the other way i couldnt land a single hit without being parried. It was so obvious than i just leave.
Sad story lol
