I like the early game. Best part of the game imo. Most Division-y part of the game.
I played through the campaign twice but it was old news to me the second time.
I was repeating the copy/paste encounters and doing the same missions I did many times before.
The early game is my favorite part but doesn't have that 'want to go back' like you get with some other games.
If you don't mind my asking, what do you mean by "Most Division-y?"Originally Posted by RushLoongHammer Go to original post
In the early game and in some part pre-U1.4 you as an agent stop weapon deals between factions, you investigate contaminated buildings, you investigate other agents, you put down cruel ideologues, secure medical supplies for the sick, ect.Originally Posted by Ubi-RealDude Go to original post
But once you hit the endgame the emphasis is exotic loot, Classified gear, legendary missions, wave based gamemodes, grind and farming, getting to wave 15, Global events, RNG, weekly challenges, PvP or PvE, wearing a Santa outfit and clown masks while taking a selfie while Bliss's helicopter crashes in the background.
Over the course of getting to the endgame, that focus on adding and improving the Division's world and narrative declined; nothing todo with what makes the Division actually The Division. They aren't additions to the world more than just additions of systems, changes or content that exists in the same game space.
For me the exceptions are the Survival gamemode. The most immersive and Division experience in the game.
Contamination events. An event that incorporates the virus (the reason the entire Division universe exists) and the natural reaction of the Cleaners. They aren't just there because there needed to be an event; it all makes sense and is consistent with the world.
And the Underground. It gets repetitive but has a solid basis in the Division's world.
This change to endgame content is typical for games like the Division, but you lose the original game's essence in that transition and that sucks.
Not saying anything I listed here is bad for the game, just that it doesn't expand the world in depth or complexity, but just exists in the same game space.
When the Division's world synergise with the gameplay, the world appears more alive, emergent, deep, complex, and real i.e. Division-y.
Very interesting... I had similar feelings when I first played through it too. Thank you for putting it all into words and sharing.Originally Posted by RushLoongHammer Go to original post
Yea,besides the four characters they give you..I've deleted characters 3 or 4 times just to run the startup game again..
I just finished a few weeks back from doing it again.. I always get about 2/3 finished and wish I didn't do that, but still do it anyways..
There is something about the first part that I just like..Maybe because it's not endgame and I like messing with certain types of builds while I'm doing it to see if it is any different..
It's just a relax and get away from end game thing I guess..
Rushloonghammer: you always have great insight! Good stuff man.
I kinda always wanted to see the game play as if you had to secure an area but then eventually that area would have to be secured again due to other factions taking over.... as if the game continued playing for the player. I hated the fact that once you finished the “campaign” it was finished. As we all know the LZ was some great gaming
My feelings exactly. Stopped starting new games. Now just binge survival when I get the urge to start a new game.Originally Posted by CassiousCloud Go to original post
