What is the purpose to deflect?

As an Orochi player, I was wondering the purpose to deflect?

At least with the 2 orochi’s attacks I’m not able to see the point.

The fast one is almost always a trade damage with the rival’s attack (so it’s always better to Parry)

The slower one is to slow so it always gets cancel.

So for the orochi is better to always parry and forget deflects?

The major reason I preferably use deflects is because they are so satisfying.

There's nothing more satisfying than deflecting a Berserker zone attack (even though he can pretty much trade damage) (or several Orochi lights or a PK/orochi/warden zone).

Also sometimes I like to show off my skills to my opponent.

However competitively speaking, you should only do it if it grants you a bigger punish than a regular parry.

This is also why a piece of my soul gets taken away every time my deflect gets countered when I'm playing as Nuxia.

Yes... I think you are right. It also looks super cool 😳

But I just had a fight with a valquirie and for each deflect I manage to do, she ha a up attack guarantee. I think they have more hp points because I always died in the exchange.

I also notice some enemies are so fast that seems to be able to cancel the fast deflect (I need to play more to see, and take some footage). But that turns deflect a trap for the user, the most difficult move in the game and has no real rewar 💔

Deflects mostly guarantee bigger damage than a heavy parry punish, and maybe only the fastest light followups trade. It's main weakness is hyperarmor, otherwise it's a good mechanic.

Hum, not many attacks are fast enough to hit between the moment you've got the deflect and the moment you hit with.

Compare to heavy parry, a deflect is always better, but is more risky to attempt due to the feint possibility.
Compare to a light parry, well, it is more situational and depends on the char you're playing. If you play Roch, i would say light parry is a bit better than the fast deflect because it does arround the same dmg but it drain stam too and both can chain.

But then you can do the charged deflect, it has HA on and it can be feint, so depending on what your opponent is doing, i believe you can have a thread advantage almost in all cases with Roch charged deflect. Just have to be carefull against some char with a lot of HA such as Zerk or HL.

And, yes Deflects and superior block are far more stylish than parry ^^

The biggest advantage you have with a deflect is that sometimes its just unexpected. I myself dont run into a lot of orochis that actually try to deflect but when i do i have to change my plan of attack.

Although its generally a good idea to avoid deflecting against someone with hyperarmor. If you deflect an attack and go for the heavy punish you can always cancel into a guard break so if your opponent tries to get away you can still grab them and get a free top heavy.

I dont typically go for the deflect with orochi but thats just because its a lot easier for me to time a parry than a deflect and i find that deflects are good finishers rather than anything else. Get a good deflect into the light attack when the opponent is less than half health then it allows a smooth transition into your next target. Get the heavy and its great for dealing a healthy amount of damage and letting the player know that you mean business.

Mmm I suppose I can see the point but I have to admit that is a little bit disappointing.
**edit (disappointing the situation on orochi’s deflects, not all of yours points &#128517

Orochi lacks a lot of things (mainly an opener or an unblockable attack), I understand this because is a “counterattaker”, so you have to responde to enemy attacks.
Ok then, but it’s quite a hard task if you get damaged with your counterattacks!”.

Normally can be a good exchange of damage (against other assassins) but your heal is lower than valquirie or tiandi (He can hit you with an up attack for a fast deflect). So at the end I don’t really think that is worth it for orochi.

For the ninja (must be this way as he don’t have much health) and berserker (I hate this guy) sure make sense because they stop the enemy attacks.

I don’t know for other characters with deflect thought 🤔

Hold on, how do you get hit after a deflect unblockable light?

I main Orochi and I deflect from time to time (I have a bad Habit wanting to parry everything). I never got hit when I deflected an attack and did the light unblockable. Maybe I was just lucky all the time?

I have the same illness with orochi, try to deflect everything even if it’s always better to parry 🤦🏻*♂️

For example, if you deflect a valquirie or a tiandi at their first light attack, and you do the quick attack, their second combo light attack will hit you (even if you hit them too).

The trade damage if better for you, but the problem is that at the end you are losing health for a difficult achivement and making parry a better option.

It’s similar with riptide strike, that some characters can hit you before it lands (shinone for example, and I think makes sense as he should be faster)

It could be that I’m having problems with lags or something, and only people with bad connection are suffering it. Anyways I’m trying to record theses moments as a better explanation.
