It's not runes, just some very vague knotwork art, but it still doesn't really communicate anything I'd consider Viking.

It does to me, but anyways I can't see how it could belong to any other faction...

Oh I'm sure it is for the Vikings new hero, can't really be anything else. My gripe is just that the design doesn't look remotely Norse/Viking, which troubles me since For Honor's art style, especially when it comes to the Vikings, has been pretty awful so far.

Well, I shall agree that FH's vikings don't even remotely remember real vikings. They went for a more non-historical fantasy-pop-culture kind of thing. Can't do much about that...

So maybe the sword and shield is a loose legionnaire? Be pretty cool if they got that look. How do you think it will fight?

I agree, but i believe it's possible to mix fantasy and history much better. Some of the emblems/symbols with the newer mask outfits for example, have absolutely minimal knotwork in them, being completely overshadowed by creature designs that frankly, look more like Pokemon than anything else.

On the other hand, I've just started playing Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, which is a full on fantasy game, but their inclusion of runes and knotwork truly captures the fantastical side of Viking art.

These are all Chinese weapons. And I am so happy to see that the wu-tang sword style is coming to the game..... thank you

The sword is definitely Wu Lin Faction. It is a chinese sword which is call Jian 剑.

Dao 刀 used by Tiandi is more for slashing but Jian 剑 is light weight with decent length. It is stabbing and slashing, more fancy and elegant moves.

^ I like the sound of that. Potential new main for me! (I've got quite a few mains already, I need some variation)

The wu-lin's sword is not a Jian. Jian's are dual edged. The image of the weapons shows a single edge. The image also shows the weapon having a fuller. Which is not only not a thing for double edged swords but also not a thing for chinese weaponry. The only two aspects of the weapon that make it relatable to a Jian is the fact that it's a weapon for the chinese and it's a 2 handed straight sword.

It would be more accurate to call the weapon a two handed straight Dao sword. Because even though Dao are typically more curved/saber like and one handed two handed versions existed. And straight Dao's also existed. The sword is much more similar to japanese types from a design standpoint. But it's not the Japanese weapon. They're getting the axe. So the devs will likely call it a Jian or maybe a Mang Dao. but it's neither from a historical perspective.
