Paddlefish Sturgeon Any Fishers of Men out there with advice on catching these things

    Paddlefish Sturgeon.
Been standing on various river banks fishing for these freaking things for weeks now, only ever had one bite and the line broke.
I have sturgeon bait, a blue fishing rod, and still I can't catch anything in weeks of trying.
Does anyone have any good advice on how to accomplish this.
There must be someone out there who's managed it
    All sensible advice gratefully received.
    Thank you in advance.

    Take your time.

Let it out a bit. Bring it in a bit.

Let it go where it wants for a bit. Then pull it in a bit.

Its just patience. Don't break your rod.

I don't really understand why you're having so much trouble catching one. Especially if you have the wonderboy fishing rod. It literally just takes me a few seconds to get one.

Are you sure you're fishing in the correct spot?

    1. fing the right fishing spot. Use google, or explore watching for the small blue signs next to the roads - they show you points of interest including fishing spots. And look for the magazines - they do the same. Walk around the rivers especially when you see small camp on the bank or even salesman there - these are usually fishing spots and once you walk them, they reveal themselves
    2. get the better rod than the default - it helps
    That's it.

If you have controller, even better. I play mouse+keyboard and for whatever stupid Ubi-reason, fishing is much harder this way. Your control of the rod sucks. With controller - piece of cake.
I spent around 3 hours trying to catch unique sturgeon. Unsuccessfully. I used controller and manage to catch him on the 2nd try - I failed the 1st one only because I am not used to play with it and I had problems to use correct buttons/axes.

Good point. Thought he was referring to the blue line.

Anyway, use the Hybrid Sturgeon bait, and keep your rod low when reeling. Resist the instinct to force the rop upwards, except when you are not reeling. Also use your ears, as the sound prompts will let you know when the rod is in the right angle for reeling it in.

I think the correct fly is supposed to increase the odds of larger fish, thus making the breaking of state records more likely. It doesn't to knowledge make easier to catch fish in general, just effects size probability. So if you have a sub-standard rod, using the correct bait may actually be working against you, since bigger fish will break the line faster. Honestly, the only fish I had a major issue with was the Admiral and someone said do that one in a boat with a co-op partner, and let the partner drive the boat to the fish when you are trying to catch him, it makes it super easy.....

I read elsewhere that using a controller works better than keyboard and mouse. I have an x-box controller that I bought for driving games, but never use it. So, i hooked it up, charged it, and then gave it a try and landed several big fish the first try (ones that I couldn't land with keyboard and mouse). I think the fact that its controls are not on and off like a keyboard but rather varying degrees of each probably helps. I still can't seem to land Ragnor or Admiral after hours of trying. It always breaks the line whether I am reeling or not, rod tip up or down. Heck, I have even sprinted towards it when the line starts turning red and it still breaks. This and the %^@(&@)#@*_^@%(&8 capture party and subsequent play is almost enough to make me do something else. The problem is, no other games interest me at the time and it is too cold outside so I guess I'll keep doing things I do like in this game.
