    The map editors BIGGEST problem

After many years of map building (9) ive come to the conclusion that the map editors biggest problem is the fact that it's created and owned by ubisoft. 9 years wasted by me and many other mappers. UBISOFT WILL NEVER MAKE A SUCCESS OF THE MAP EDITOR. time for me to move on to better things, i suggest you do the same. the ubisoft map editor is a dead end. it will NEVER be what you want it to be.

You were/are really talented in map making and I always liked your special creations.

If you want a nice map editor go check out Dying Light, watch the map editor tutorial videos on Youtube and look forward to the upcoming Dying light 2. It also has good scripting, moveable objects, hud text, journey steps to follow and you can connect maps together or jump between maps without leaving the game.

Unreal Engine 4 (comes with the Editor) is completely free, and while similar but a bit different to Unity or FC 5 Arcade, it is very powerful, and Free Games are released like "Subnautica" regularly.

I am a mapper, and have over a decade and a half experience in 3ds max, Photoshop, and a good handful of years in Mudbox, i am planning an FPS title and once i build the main characters (only started the first one, recently retired from Indie Dev'ing) i will present the Design Document and Assets i created to the Epic Forums and Recruit Talent to make the game a Demo/Alpha, and hopefully a Early Access Game on Steam.

What i suggest is you try out Unreal Engine 4 (free to publish games as you wish, only pay Royalties if you make $250,000 or more on the game, and only 5-10%)

If you would like to be a Map Designer, i would love to work with an experienced mapper such as yourself, i will add you on Uplay, and hopefully we can talk about building a great FPS that is Mostly a Story-Telling FPS with similar mechanics to FC5, with driving, exploration, and story-telling (But we will allow "Skippable Cut-Scenes ) but vastly ddiffernt setting, tried a Release of the game's concept (which i own) and we made it to Demo Release on ModDb.com, but never finished it due to the Main Programmer leaving for Military Service and 2 of the mappers still in College, without a Main Programmer, they felt it was dead and left the team.

Thanks for all of your maps, i think some even got ported to PC, i don't remember all the names of the maps i've played or their creators, but i've had a blast creating maps in FC 5 Arcade, even thouhg there are no plugins for creating your own assets in Blender r Milkshape or 3ds Max or Maya.

[EDIT] i tried adding you on Uplay, i know cross-platform isn't a thing, but i hoped it would at least give me a friend on Uplay, feel free to add me on Steam, Same Name, and we can see about putting that good talent to use for fun (and profit, hopefully) And i don't know if you have a PC but the editor is pretty straight-forward and having someone build Custom Assets that you can simply place in and even brain-storm about the direction you would like to go and modifying the theme to your liking would work with me, i'm very flexible, and have good working knowledge of making props and assets for mappers, did so since Unreal Tournament 2k3 [EDIT]

Some recent models i've created just to keep my skills un-rusted, that aren't under NDA:

3rd person (in-game model) of a Counter Terrorist Unit Agent:

8,000+ Polygon Basic AK-47 with iron sights aligned for CQC:

so I want to move to ue4 because there it will people definitely appreciate my talent. And in the editor of FC5 I have to spend more effort to get the average result. Here is an example of how much effort you need to spend to make an arch in the editor and how much effort you need to do the same on ue4. Even to make a f**king inscription - you have to make words out of individual letters.. long laying out the letters to match lines -_- but ubisoft dont care about how you suffer they care only about require PSplus so others can see your creations.

The editor is what it is, that's all, did Ubi mentioned somewhere that map creators will have a chance of being hired in the gaming industry ?
Afaik,I don't think so, it's not a professionnal tool, but can give you a great interest to move forward and learn how to use other editors, UE4, Unity, CryEngine and many others for modelling/texturing/rigging purposes.
Nothing is wasted, what you've learnt before will have a great impact on what is going on next, it's all up to you.

You are getting the wrong end of the stick. when i said moving onto better things, i just mean anything that doesn't involve making/creating level or maps. my aim was never the gaming industry, it's always been just a hobby. when i say "wasted" i mean waiting year after year in the hope that ubi makes a success of this tool, but they never do. ive just had enough of this hobby. i dont get any enjoyment from making maps anymore. making maps that's just rotting away on some server, it's pointless. people are deluded if they think they can move from the fc editor into the gaming industry IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. dapperhayden and his sidekick slimreaper are great examples of deluded mappers. BOTH WILL NEVER WORK in the gaming industry NEVER, they simply dont have the required skill/talent. it will take them about two to three more years to get a reality check. you can study all you want, but if you dont have the skills, you dont have the skills. you dont learn to be an artist, you are born an artist. i was born an artist, but never had any interest in working in the gaming industry.

Brother I understand your frustrations with the editor not giving you the enjoyment it once did but that last part about saying other people don't have talent/skill to do something they dream of is uncalled for. The beauty of any given art is on the eye of the beholder...

Dont take any notice of what i said about those two, theres a reason for it that you are not aware of. i just wanted to give my enemies one last kick while they were down, one for road so to speak. i leave with a big smirk on my face in victory. bye bye community.

AW what your saying sounds pretty negative, I have always appreciated your work, but telling dapperhayden that he does not have the skill to get into the industry is disrespectful and I am honestly disappointed you went that far....I would never try to discourage other people's passions. I hope dapperhayden uses your words to fuel his fire to break-in.

A little about me: I am a realistic artist and I got many art commissions... several good paying ones where working for model railroaders. I was paid to model and paint the backgrounds. My clients were pleased with my work and are requesting me to do a few more jobs for them...I just have to find the time.. I can also say the editor did help me improve with the modeling part of the those jobs. I also work for a game company, a small company but I am in the game field I enjoy, and I can honestly tell you some of what I learned on the far cry editor has helped me there as well. I don’t agree that you are born either as an artist or not. Some people start out artistically inclined but I for one had to work at it and it took years of practice to get where I am. I hope to keep improving as I go.

I don't like the direction Ubisoft has gone with New Dawn just being a SP game and them stopping editor support. Shame. But I will keep building because I enjoy it. This editor does have some things to teach us all, we just have to be open to receiving it.

PS what's up with the FarCry-is-dead name change and trump picture? Makes me not respect what you are saying as much as I used to.. :/
