The first time a capture party came for me, I thought it was pretty cool. Then I realized it was a sham and i couldn’t actually fight them off. If it was a thing you could win, i would have found it more fun. Kind of like in far cry 4 when the enemy would attack outposts you already captured.

And i second the unfairness aspect. I was also once shot with a bliss bullet while I was trying to escape from the party in a helicopter. Not to mention getting captured while in the middle of another mission. I know you can just go back to where you were after as stated above, but i also have a job. I cram in some play time before work or before bed. I had to hold off on triggering some of these missions when I knew I wouldn’t have time to complete one. In the other games, it’s much more up to the player when a given mission is triggered.

In my multiple play-throughs of FC5 - I was once shot with a bliss arrow when I inadvertently swam "UNDERWATER" into to Jacob's region as well as with an arrow through the helicopter door - no big deal but extremely aggravating at the time. I got over these setbacks though and despite all the repetitive captures came out a far better "console" gamer in the end....

So perhaps that's a good thing as "quitters" never progress their skills whereas those that actually persevere go on to reap the rewards and benefits of adversity. Whining about things is never a good character reference.

Well you pretty much hit the nail on the head there. One of the major themes in FC5 is "An actors (players) lack of influence over the outcome within a fixed narrative".

So ultimately we probably shouldn't be too surprised about the lack of choice.

Also, the intense backlash on the capture missions is a prime example of why developers are hesitant to try anything new. FC5 was the first time I'd ever seen an open world game where the enemy actually comes after you in the world rather than you being the catalyst for every interaction with the antagonists you're after. I appreciated the capture missions for that aspect about them. Now I think the execution of the capture missions could've been better, and I wish they wouldn't have cheesed it with them allowing the enemy to capture you no matter what even if it's getting hit with an arrow while in a helicopter, but I at least gotta hand it to them for trying to make an open world game where the enemy actually seems to be reacting to all the things you're doing to their operations in the open world.

I will not buy another Ubisoft game new after putting down FC5, first game ever I quit because of the forced abductions. Used game maybe, new price not unless they fix FC5 so casual gamers can actually play it as open world.

I am also an older player (70). I've played through all the main, side, and expedition missions in New Dawn. In case there's still any doubt, you are NEVER subject to kidnapping, as was the case in FC5.

There are some intense missions, as one would expect in a FC game. I don't consider myself to be a dexterous player either but I managed to beat them. I was mostly playing on "tough" difficulty but switched to "explorer" a couple of times. (It's easy to change that at any time.) I also built up my character and the guns for hire to the max extent, which certainly helps. (Guns for hire aren't available in a couple of story missions but when they are that can make a big difference.)

Use the bliss bullets!!! LOL! I got kidnapped from an airplane. Sh-- I wanted to get a stack of some bliss bullets that I could use. And I actually wanted to join the cult, because anyone who can shoot a bliss dart from the ground to moving airplane and get me out of the wreckage from the plane that surely had to have crashed without a scratch on me, is doing something right!
