Restoring a character slot on the PC

Has any PC player restored a deleted character slot?

Not from only the "x.save.delete" files, but also from any older deleted character, if the appropriate files were saved?

    Thanks

No. However, this theory should apply.

    1. Confirm the game executable isn't running.
    2. Backup both sets of files.
    3. Assuming you've made changes to the secondary slots that you'd like to retain -- as opposed to swapping out all files -- you'll need to ID the target slot files. This is done by the 'Modified' timestamp. If you're unsure, delete the target slot and create a new one in its place.
    4. ID the slot files of the character that you'd like to sub in from the respective backup folder.
    5. Copy and paste them into a new folder.
    6. Rename the files to match the files in the target folder.
    7. Copy and paste them to the target folder. A popup will verify that you are replacing the files. Approve.
    8. Restart the game.
    9. A popup will confirm a discrepancy between the files on your PC and those saved on the cloud, and will prompt you to choose. Choose your files.
    10. Verify twice.
    11. Delete any unnecessary files you created in the procedure.

I long ago unchecked the cloud save, so that won't be an issue. Once a gaming session is done, I copy Ubisoft save game files to a flash drive.
I'm more concerned as to the possible impact of rolling back into the game any previously deleted character slot on the two account controlling files, 1.save & 2.save. These master control files are new for me, from any previous Ubisoft title acquired.
I of course can just do a test run if no one responds in the positive.

    Prudent.

As long as you fully back up the 1771 folder, you'll be able to revert.

I suspect that due to the small size, the 1.save & 2.save simply reference the campaign files, and therefore should remain untouched for what you want to accomplish. The fact that they are always 'modified' is to update the names of the 1771 files that your account accesses per your selected campaign. I also suspect that due to the identical size, 2.save is a duplicate/redundancy of 1.save. Given that ignoring 1.save & 2.save and simply substituting the campaign file (same filename as the current file in 1771) is the minimum you'd be required to do, I'd make that the first attempt in the absence of a definitive reply.

Yes, it's always the 1771 folder which is backed up, and copied to a folder named for that specific character slot that was just wrapped up.
What I wonder is why Ubisoft even created delete files for each slot when as far as I can tell there's no way to access them via a restore option within the main menu. Perhaps an option which was never actually created upon game release.
Interesting idea indeed regarding what 1.save & 2.save contain. Campaign, plus the specific character cosmetics I assume.
Will wait a bit to see if there's a definitive reply.

If you had the cloud save activated, you'd also see a "*.upload" extension in addition to the "*.delete". I suspect they are all duplicates (or near duplicates) and which one can be accessed depends on which one isn't active. When you're in the main menu, it would defer to the primary "*.save" since it isn't active. Perhaps it's a method of minimizing corruption so that a file isn't copied mid-update (while it's active).

Actually the "x.upload" files are in the folder, at 0KB of course, with creation date when the game was installed.

Did a quick test of restoring my slot 3 deleted character. It worked. Then restored back the current slot 3 character and returned the backup character to that status - using the original delete files so that those files did not have a later DTG stamp from the current slot 3 (just in case).

In theory one could simply save a current character slot files. then start a new character. Stop that character and bring back any character slot which had game play suspended. As long as copies were made at the appropriate times. The two master control files appear not to have any issues.

    So, FWIW
