    Fallen Ghosts is Brilliant

I love Fallen Ghosts... perhaps more than the main campaign. The mood is much darker, supported by dreary weather and thick jungle locations, and it’s much tougher. There’s a lot more conflict and now three factions and just more enemies everywhere.

The Broadcast mission was the hardest in the game so far. Worse than the Sam Fischer mission in my opinion. The mission where you have to hunt down the cloaked ambush snipers and jammers... super intense.

Despite having played the main game for hundreds of hours, the locations in Fallen Ghosts almost feel like I’m visiting them again for the first time. They’ve done an amazing job on repurposing previous locations differently.

My only wish was that Fallen Ghosts was an extension to the main campaign, rather than a separate campaign. I’m guessing there are some serious technical challenges that were too costly to overcome to do it as an extension but they seamlessly integrated the Peruvian Connection and Unidad Conspiracy into the main campaign, so why not this as an optional post campaign addition? It would then benefit from adding more variety to the Tier Grind, been available for Ghost Mode play, and benefited from other enhancements like team customization.

But despite that, just an overall brilliant add-on. Wish there was more like this.

    I’d like to see,

The KNIFE ported over to the main campaign.

As well as some of those side missions, some of them are quite good. Would add some variety to the main campaign.

And for diversity, the option of some of the FG new Enemy archetypes spawning/placed in random locations in the main campaign.

I love the Jammer and sniper, and the challenge the heavy presents. Not so keen on the Ghosts, they’re just a wee bit silly to me. I know the camo tech is a real thing, but I dunno, seems not to fit. That’s just me.

    As for the FG campaign.

I’m playing at the mo (mainly to use that freakin Knife), it’s decent. But I’m not a great fan of Unidad. It feels like every mission can escalate into mayhem, with a never ending Unidad forces that will keep coming. It makes the missions lean towards a single playstyle, namely stealth. Which is fine, but sometimes you want to go full assault... and with Unidad, that just gets mental fast.

As in the main campaign, once you trigger a Unidad Patrol, you can stick around as long as you like or just bug-out (break-contact and leave the area) to cancel it. It’s actually a good way to implement it... they will keep coming until you’re bored (and leave) or dead.

I really enjoy FG too but haven’t been back since they introduced character customisation in the main game, so it’s been awhile since I played. Remind me, are the regions in FG completely new or reimaginings. If they’re new, but can’t be added as an extension because technical limitations, how about a load screen? Have them as a region you can fast travel to only.

They are 3 jungle provinces from the main game.

I think populating the regions with different AI and using a different skill tree (among other differences) meant that FG needed to be separate. It's a bit different than just adding a regular mission.

    Really glad you've enjoyed FG!

I understand. However, in my case the new skill tree went completely unutiluzed. The faster reload benefit sounded cool but I never invested in any skills. Adding a faster reload skill to the main game would make a lot of sense, since it’s a high benefit aspect of the game and one that gets better in real life through practise and training.

If they can’t integrate content like this into the main campaign, they should at least offer the option to import a character from one of your campaign save slots and export it back when done. Let’s face it, if you’re making a game with s bit of a role playing element with progression, using a character you’ve invested heavily into is important to really enjoy add-on content. Anyway, it’s a minor nit pick.

Some things that FG seemed to do better than the main campaign:
    - Some enemies can start to detect you out to 200m. That’s so much more realistic than the 75m awareness (or less) that most enemies have in the main campaign.
    - Resource boxes and barrels would reward you with up to 4000 resources actually making them somewhat useful (if you were in need of resources). The main game is way to stingy on resources collected through boxes/barrels.
    - The atmosphere was just so dark and dismal. It seemed like the sun never came out and the fog never lifted. This really added to the atmosphere of the whole thing. Much more sad, depressing, and mysterious. Awesome!
    - Mission variety... There was more variety in the 18 missions or so in this campaign than in the 100 missions or so in the main game.

I have to say I also liked the active camo cloaking and jammers. It gave me a reaso to use Thermal and added to the intensity, but I wouldn’t want to see that in an extended campaign. It would become annoying and a pain.

There are some great things in this DLC. Hope the team takes the best of it for future titles in this franchise.

    EDIT:

I noticed the enemies speaking English occasionally in FG which was nice.

Also, I see the lead studio on FG was Montpellier... Not Paris like the main game. That explains a lot of the stylistic differences. Give that team the lead on the next Wildlands title. They rocked this!

While I agree with a lot of your observations I happen to agree more with this one... way to many copy/paste missions in the main game. Sometimes less is more and quality before quantity but the latter does not sell as much.
