For Honor and the Modding Community

    Introduction

I feel Ubisoft should open the door to the Modding Community(MC) regarding For Honor. There is a lot of both passion and talent among the For Honor community and I feel the game would benefit from contributions the MC could make.

The developers are frequently under time constraints and tight deadlines so the Modding Community(MC) could help take off some of the pressure by satisfying some of the For Honor Community's demands.

It is one thing to see suggestions in forums and discussion videos but it is another to see full visualisations on peoples take on For Honor. This may even benefit content creators who have many and various takes on how For Honor could and should work.

Below are some possibilities on how the Modding Community(MC) could contribute to For Honor.

    Cosmetics

    Symbols, Outfits, Ornaments, and Effects:
The MC could either create mods of existing outfits, symbols, ornaments and effects or create new ones from scratch.

    Weapons and Armour:
A common request is more armour since the wait for them is very long, which is due to the nature of the creation process. More weapons are always welcome. Specific requests are always frequent by the FH community and the MC could help in this area. Again, the MC could create gear mods or new ones from scratch.

    Emotes and Executions:
The MC could help satisfy specific requests for emotes and executions. Another advantage would be addressing the issue where some of the community feels that certain heroes do not have very good executions compared to others; Shinobi comes to mind.

    Level Editor

Allowing the MC to create new maps or modify existing ones for both Arcade Mode and online matchmaking would be a win-win situation. Level editors are among the most common form of editors in games and are very popular. Even casual gamers enjoy this feature and could potentially get them into level design.

    Arcade Mode:
The MC could give Arcade mode more interesting and unique maps that would give players that RPG experience many of us are craving or help satisfy the demand for more single player campaign content. Perhaps the MC could contribute to For Honor's lore this way.

    Other Game Modes:
The other game modes would always benefit with more maps. The MC could satisfy the demand for more elaborate arenas or settings for duels and battlefields as seen in the forums.

    Hero Editor & Character Creation

Unique AI & Bosses for Arcade Mode:
It could be said that balance is very relaxed when it comes to Arcade Mode given the current difficulty. This would allow for plenty of flexibility when it comes to creating new AI and bosses for this mode. The MC could create beasts, monsters, giants, gods, etc., as depicted by For Honor's cosmetics, to challenge players in more interesting ways. This could be another way to add to the game's lore.

    Rework and New Hero Suggestions:
The forums are smothered with rework suggestions and ideas for new heroes and factions. Allowing the community to realise their vision for them would remove a lot of speculation regarding what would work and what wouldn't. We may see team efforts where one party shares their ideas in the forums then the MC puts them into action since there are those who have the best ideas but they are not programmers/modders and vice versa.

    Game Mode Editor

A game mode editor would benefit those who want to demonstrate how their ideas for new game modes would play out. A free-for-all or battle royale mode is frequently demanded and it would be interesting to see the various interpretations in action either by videos or even on the test servers. Approved new game modes could either be a permanent edition if they are good enough, appear on the weekly event playlists, or be a season event game mode.

    Approving Community Content

The approval system for community content would be based on appropriateness, quality, performance, and balance, where applicable.

In the event where there is an abundance of good quality content and little time to approve them all, the FH community would be asked to vote for their favourites and the most popular ones would be subject to approval before the others.

    Cosmetics
    :
All uploaded community content that is approved by the FH developers would be available for sale via steel so the business wouldn't lose money in this aspect. Gear can be looted or scavenged as normal.

New AI, Reworks, and New Heroes:
New AI, rework, and new hero builds would be subject to pre-approval. Pre-approved builds would be uploaded onto test servers and remain there for a least a month. After that period, if both the community and the developers are happy with the builds then they would be put into the live game in the next season, however, the successful builds would remain on the test servers until then.

If either the community or the developers have issues with the AI and hero builds during their trial period on the test servers, they should be tweaked and tested again before being rejected.

Approved new heroes would be purchasable via steel but at a discounted rate than normal.

    Maps:
Community maps for both online matchmaking and Arcade Mode would have the same approval process as the new AI and hero builds(see above).

Community maps would be free as the other maps have always been.

    Game Modes:
New game modes from the community would also have the same approval process as the new AI and hero builds(see New AI, Reworks, and New Heroes).

Approved new game modes would be free.

    WHAT DO YOU THINK?

    • Would the Modding Community(MC) make a good contribution to For Honor, would they complicate things, or simply make things worse?
    • What do you like about the idea of the MC contributing to the game, and what concerns do you have?
    • What shouldn't the Modding Community(MC) touch? Please explain why.
    • What risks should be considered before allowing the MC to make changes to the game?
    • Is there a robust system you would like to recommend should the MC be allowed to contribute to the game?
    • Are you happy with the way For Honor is and that the game should be left to the developers?
    • Are they any ideas or changes you would like to contribute? Please explain why where possible or necessary.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to your feedback. Remember guys, always maintain a constructive discussion and stay on topic.

An alternative suggestion to community content that would be sold for steel:

    1. Make the community cosmetics lootable in Arcade Mode.
    2. Make community cosmetics lootable in events.
    3. Even make new heroes made by the community unlockable in Arcade Mode.

Many would feel that community mods should be free by principle, and that paid mods could lead to legal and PR issues. If free community content rivaled the paid content in terms of quality then the developers would lose money this way. The advantages of the above solutions are that they wouldn't have an impact on microtransactions and they would encourage player activity.

So basically MC can have their jobs and MC wont get paid for their mods (maybe) .

Idea wise, I agree with this, yes we need mods, but there are boundaries.

or maybe let the community design their own executions/effects/outfits/emotes that needs to be voted 1st on which we (the community) wants to be in the game. They can give us the templates on characters so some of us can animate (maybe) the execution that we want (think about warframe, the developers are giving the templates so that the community can design what cosmetics they want)

but in the end. this wont happen. they like creating battle/elite outfits which are just reskinned from the other outfits. this 2 outfits that they release already gives them 2 weeks of siting on their *** not thinking of what to release until the 3rd week of content comes. and as they always say "we are looking into it but its not a priority right now"

Look,I'm all for mods, but I don't think the MC would have the motion capture required to actually create thier own animation, it's one of the biggest argument against such thing. But aside from that, cosmetics and armor would work perfectly ,though they would need to be of a very high quality . Also, what engine is compatible with the game that could work ,aside from a official one released by ubisoft that could be a option ?

Just the release of a Map/Level Editor would be GREAT and prolong the life of For Honor. Look what the Map Builder for Far Cry 5 is capable of - map building from scratch, over 9,000 assets to use to build maps, intelligent AI with scripting capabilities. If For Honor had JUST a Map Builder like Far Cry 5 - it would GUARANTEE years of community support and involvement.

While the details my be rough around the edges, the overall concept could work with the right approach. With the high demand for armour, it would be cool if this could happen. Modders & content creators could be rewarded with steel for every approved item.
