New Mission - Inspired by Hate
As the title states I had an idea for a new mission. The inspiration came from something that overall I hated. The Division’s ‘Survival’ DLC.
Although I hated 95% of Survival, I loved the blizzard. Fighting the elements added a fresh twist and the weather effects were done really well.
Initially I thought a version of that could work well for GRW, but my idea evolved until I thought a solo rescue mission hampered by extreme weather could be a great addition. It would start a bit more restricted and linear than is usual but could open up as it went on. It would also, other than at the very start, be a no vehicle challenge. It would depend on the Wildlands team being able to create a blizzard effect for it to have the right atmosphere. The animation of slogging through deep snow could be borrowed from the slogging through water we already have.
The story could play out like this....
The mission would take place in Inca Camina, reusing some of the locations from ‘the Peruvian connection.’ Upon activating the mission the briefing states that intel has been obtained suggesting a drug lord from Peru is looking to take over the Cartel and pick up where El Sueno left off. He’s believed to be in the area of the Trecking Campsite (lat -20.6450 long -66.5761). You’re then informed that a bad snowstorm is coming in so you won’t be able to fly in and that you need to deploy to Inca Camina Charlie and travel by road from there. (The mission wouldn’t start until you do this and from this point all rebel support would be disabled due to the bad weather, and remain disabled throughout). At the safe house there would be one vehicle, (probably a van) and travelling away to get something different wouldn’t be an option as it would void the mission.
As you drive in along the road towards Nuevo Mondo it blends into a cutscene around about lat -20.3946 long -66.2706 of an avalanche striking the vehicle and taking it off the road. Nomad is thrown from the vehicle and knocked unconscious. He awakes briefly to see the rest of the team being dragged into vehicles near the bottom of the slope, tries to move to help but passes out again.
He then awakes in the San Martin Mountain Hut lat -20.4006 long -66.5014 with an old injured rebel who tells him he found him on the mountain. He doesn’t know where the rest of the team is but the closest cartel outpost is the Trecking Campsite. All Nomads gear is gone (including the drone) except for a pair of binoculars and a pistol, which the rebel gives to him. (Access to inventory denied also). The rebel then gives him a warm coat and a hat and Nomad sets off into the storm to find his team and hopefully complete his mission. (Checkpoint. Mission objective - reach Trecking Campsite).
Trecking Campsite
Upon approaching Nomad notices that there are no vehicles here and decides to interrogate one of the Cartel that are at the location. (Checkpoint. Mission objective - interrogate guard).
The guard reveals that he thinks the gringos are being held at Nuevo Mondo. (Checkpoint. Mission objective - reach Nuevo Mondo). Still no vehicles so it’s a hike though the storm encountering or avoiding a patrol on the way. However at this point Nomad could have captured a weapon from the Cartel at the campsite, but not a suppressed one.
Nuevo Mondo
Bigger location, more guards. Numerous building to search. (Checkpoint. Mission objective - search buildings for team). You don’t find them, but you find clues that identify the cable car station as the location they are being held. You also find your gear. (Checkpoint Mission objective - rescue team (if they’re still alive) from the cable car station).
Battle across the mountain and down into the station. Again encountering patrols that have no business being out in such terrible weather.
Cable Car Station
The weather finally starts to clear as you get there. Neutralise the guards. Find team being interrogated by the Peruvian drug lord. Eliminate him, rescue the team but find out from them the whole place has been rigged with explosives. They were setting up a trap but hadn’t quite cleared out in time. However a countdown has started. (Checkpoint. Mission objective - exfil area before bombs go off). Luckily, the teams gear is close by. (Foolish Cartel. What were they thinking?j The road and the route back across the mountain are crawling with Cartel now, so it’s either battle your way out and risk getting caught in the explosion or base jump off the back of the station.
Successfully exfil the area. Mission complete.
