To preface, I know they probably have higher priorities that people would rather see first, I'm aware of them, and they've been discussed to death, so lets try to avoid that topic here.
So, Roman soldiers as knight faction characters. People have always found that strange. Sure, knights were the best fit for the roman characters at the time, cuz they didn't know how to implement a 4th faction, and being they were european warriors, like the knights, it was better they go there than vikings or samurai. Then Marching Fire came along, and with it came a new faction, for the first time: the Wu Lin, chinese warriors.
It occurred to me, and probably others as well, that the Wu Lin, are a similar case to the roman heroes. The romans were european soldiers like knights were, but they were drastically different cultures. Likewise, the chinese are asian warriors, like the samurai were, but, again, drastically different cultures. This time, however, the Wu Lin got their own seperate faction instead of being lumped in with the samurai faction like romans were with the knights. So now, the romans are kind of just sitting awkwardly among the knights' roster while wu lin are standing out on their own.
I think another update is in order. Perhaps not soon, but sometime in the game's future, i think the romans need to finally be in their own seperate faction from the knights. Marching Fire added 4 new heroes to the game for the Wu Lin Faction, so this update im proposing should do the same. 2 new roman heroes to fill the vanguard and heavy slots necessary for a new faction:
The heavy should be easy - the centurion should have been this in the first place, instead of using a gladius, standard roman kit was a shield and spear. This could be called the Hoplite, or something
The Vanguard, I was having a bit more trouble coming up with, so I'd love to hear other peoples' ideas for a roman vanguard hero.
Now, however, moving glad and cent to romans puts the knight faction 2 heroes short. Conveniently that would be a hybrid and an assassin, which I have ideas for:
The hybrid could be an armored knight wielding a Zweihander - one of my favorite medieval weapons that has yet to be represented in game. I could see this hero's armor being styled similarly to the warden or lawbringer, though, considering the preexisting similarities between those 2 heroes already, I would say the armor matters much less than the weapon he wields.
The assassin, however, I have a much more clear cut idea for how he'd look.A Swashbuckler, we all know what pirates look like. Rugged european sailor's outfit, Tricorne hat, maybe something more fancy if we get into the romanticized pirates. The armor sets pretty much design themselves. The weapons are easy as well. A cutlass, maybe 2 to dual wield, though i'd prefer a single. We have enough tropey dual wielding assassins. Could also have a rapier. Hell, if you wanna get really time warpey, you could give him flintlock pistol feats that behave similarly to crossbows, mechanically, though it would be just as easy to keep their kit relevant to the medieval era.
Thoughts? More importantly, any ideas for that Roman Vanguard hero? That guy is still the biggest obstacle i see in this idea.
