As UbiInsulin correctly stated, that is because they've already tried a player plays within another faction concept, Narco Road, so naturally it comes to mind. Had they done it more tastefully, I'm sure it would have been a hit. And had your idea been more plausible, I'm sure there would have been more discussion favoring it. I was just trying to convey possibly why no one was receptive to it, other than it not being within a normal GR story for a base campaign.Originally Posted by MountainRiderAK Go to original post
Yes I know you said another game, but since that kind of thing has never been done before as a base campaign in GR, I wanted to make sure you didn't mean DLC instead.Originally Posted by MountainRiderAK Go to original post
More like playing in the Unidad faction being an unfortunate cart after the bad horse that was Narco Road. I'm not saying that to be dismissive or insulting about your idea, just saying that kind of story stands very little chance of success after the disaster that was Narco Road, even as a DLC. Perhaps play Narco Road if you haven't and you'll be enlightened on that. It was truly uninspiring and immature really.
Hey! Thanks for the reply!Originally Posted by UbiInsulin Go to original post
Well, in the game, the rebels take credit for the Ghosts' activities. However, when the Unidad recruit starts out, he wouldn't know who was responsible. In my imagination, the first few missions would be him responding to calls. I imagine him rolling up with other Unidad troops in ultimately unsuccessful attempts to thwart unknown assailants. After a few missions, he would move into a detective role where he would do some detective work. While doing said detective work, he might start to realize how corrupt Unidad is (e.g. Santa Blanca intimidating witnesses and offering bribes) and try to fix that. Maybe at some point, he could start working with the Ghosts in some manner (e.g. collecting intelligence and submitting it to an intermediary).
I understand that what I just wrote isn't very coherent. However, I still think there is potential fun to be had in playing the role of a Unidad trooper and I don't think that fun has to come at the expense of the Ghosts, either. I laughed every time I fooled Unidad and Santa Blanca into fighting each other. I think it would be fun to shoot Santa Blanca troops while playing a Unidad soldier. Also, I would love a game mode that let me fly missions in the Apache or whatever it's supposed to be called.
I played Narco Road. I thought it sucked. I have no desire to do the things I'm supposed to do in that game. However, I don't think anything will be accomplished by beating the dead horse that is Narco Road.Originally Posted by Frag_Maniac Go to original post
I love the Bolivian open world that was created for Wildlands. I would love to spend more time in that world. My suggestion was just one possible way of accomplishing that. When I made the suggestion, I was aware of the low probability of it actually happening. However, if we don't tell Ubisoft what we like, they won't know. And maybe my suggestion wasn't very good, but maybe it will help Ubisoft think of something that is good.
I’m with you wanting more from the amazing world that’s been created, but don’t like the idea of playing as Unidad. I’d rather there was a way to continue playing as Ghosts. I’ve never been one for playing as the bad guy.Originally Posted by MountainRiderAK Go to original post
I don't want to play a bad guy either. If we get to play as Unidad, I want the story arc to be that of a good guy in a bad organization. Ideally, that bad organization would be reformed by the good guy.Originally Posted by Hugo-FOU Go to original post
I know some folks are going to argue that this idea isn't realistic. The fact that Unidad doesn't launch a nationwide manhunt for the Ghosts after the 3rd mission is not realistic. There is no way a country would allow 4 guys to get away with what we get away with in this game. So it's not realistic, but it's fun. And it's realistic enough that we are able to suspend disbelief and play the game.
Well I suppose the start of the game could take place during the late stages of the current story and the second part after El Sueno had been removed. You could then find yourself personally recruited by Baro to take out the corrupt parts of Unidad.Originally Posted by MountainRiderAK Go to original post
So the first part you’d be chasing down the Ghosts but never quite catching up with them and more often than not ending up trading shots with SB, the the second part would be more covert, under cover within Unidad.
That could work.
The only way playing as a good guy in Unidad would work is if the protagonist was very good at role playing and would probably have to work with the Rebels to share intel. At that point it becomes more of an RPG that resembles GR in no way. And like I said, the only reason NR was brought up was that it kinda ruined any chance at the community being receptive to any playing-in-another-faction scenarios. Whether that seems like beating a dead horse to you, it's sadly a hurdle that will be hard to overcome for some time in GR.
My experience is that you are hunted as soon as you enter the game, no matter what. That suggests the team is already known by UNIDAD to be in-country, given there's no "grace" period or until you do something covert. It would have been interesting had the game been designed with some kind of trigger that would "alert" UNIDAD to you and the team, and from that point, it's open season!Originally Posted by MountainRiderAK Go to original post
As for the Armadilllo's Commander mission specifics; if role playing, the ghosts sneak in, get the info, and the commander is "knocked out" - i.e., he's killed by blunt force. If one wishes to leave other bodies, then use weapons of rebels/cartel for any follow-up investigation by UNIDAD (or just do "knock outs" so there's nothing left behinds - i.e., shell casings). Regardless, it should be a mystery as to what actually happened at that base; not that the U.S. has sent in a four-man team. No business cards were left behind ...![]()
Pretty much of what they hyped of the game happened, hence, why I have always said they could have wasted a few more minutes in the game play. It seems the majority of the game was wasted in making a purdy world.
No systemic world, it does not matter what you do or where you start, everything is the same in every province... Rebels sometimes attack SB and Unidad, some other times they stroll ino bases like best of friends do.
There is so much they could have done to make the game that much better but copying and pasting seems to be the easier way to finish the homework and presented it to the school for a AAA grade.
